Canton of Saint-Cyr-sur-Loire

Saint-Cyr-sur-Loire (French pronunciation: [sɛ̃ siʁ syʁ lwaʁ] , literally Saint-Cyr on Loire) is a commune in the department of Indre-et-Loire in central France.It is located northwest of Tours on the other side of the Loire. It is the third largest city in the Indre-et-Loire department, behind Tours and Joué-lès-Tours.

La Riche (French pronunciation: [la ʁiʃ] ) is a commune in the Indre-et-Loire department in central France. It is part of the agglomeration of Tours.

The Jardin botanique de Tours (5 hectares) is a municipal botanical garden and arboretum located at 33, Boulevard Tonnellé, Tours, Indre-et-Loire, Centre-Val de Loire, France. It is open daily; admission is free. The garden was established by public subscription in 1843 at the initiative of pharmacist Jean-Anthyme Margueron (1771–1848), and is the oldest public garden in the city. In response to the 1841 creation of the city's Hospice Général et de l’Ecole Préparatoire de Pharmacie, it began as a collection of about 2,000 medical and exotic plants arranged in greenhouses (containing about 500 plants), orchard, and garden proper. It was flooded by the Loire in 1848 and again in 1856, to a depth of 2 metres, which required rebuilding the garden and replacing most of its trees. In 1863 an orangery and animal park were added, and then in 1890 new greenhouses (cold, temperate, and hot) under the direction of Louis Madelin, with the garden's first seed catalog published in 1901. The greenhouses were damaged by bombardments in World War II. The garden currently contains about 2,000 taxa, organized as follows: North - regular parterres along an avenue of magnolias, with a pool containing water lilies and lotus; renovated in 1980 to contain theme gardens and a phylogenetic garden. East - bulbs, rhizomes, and perennials, as well as a garden of plant evolution. South - an excellent arboretum in the English style, a pond, and a "garden of simples" as in medieval gardens. West - heath, bog, Mediterranean garden, and alpine garden.The garden also contains an orangery, exhibition greenhouses, and a small space for animals.

The Priory of St. Cosmas (French: Prieuré de Saint-Cosme) or the Priory of Ronsard is a former priory built upon an island in the river Loire at La Riche near Tours in Touraine, founded in the 11th century and dedicated to St. Cosmas. The site features a museum dedicated to the French poet Ronsard, who spent the last twenty years of his life among the Canons Regular there.

The Lycée Konan de Touraine-France (フランス甲南学園トゥレーヌ, Furansu Kōnan Gakuen Turēnu), previously the Lycée-Collège Konan de Touraine (トゥレーヌ甲南学園高等部・中等部, Turēnu Kōnan Gakuen Kōtōbu Chūtōbu), was a Japanese international high school located in Saint-Cyr-sur-Loire, France, near Tours.The school, in the Bechellerie neighbourhood, was dependent on the Konan Foundation (甲南学園 Konan Gakuen), which operates Konan University, and therefore was an overseas branch of a Japanese private school, or a Shiritsu zaigai kyoiku shisetsu (私立在外教育施設). The school, which had both junior high school and senior high school departments, had over 600 students. The 5,000-square-metre (54,000 sq ft) school building was located on a 12,000-square-metre (130,000 sq ft) plot of land. The school also maintained an 800-square-metre (8,600 sq ft) dojo.During the school's existence, some students were from Japanese families living in Paris. At the time of closing the school's director was Osamu Yokoyama (横山 理 Yokoyama Osamu). As of 2012 the school's operating budget exceeded 3 million euros annually.

The Royal Château de Plessis-lèz-Tours is the remains of a late Gothic château located in the town of La Riche in the Indre-et-Loire department, in the Loire Valley of France. Around three fourths of the former royal residence were pulled down during the French Revolution in 1796. Plessis-lèz-Tours was the favorite residence of King Louis XI of France, who died there on 30 August 1483. It was also the scene of the 1589 meeting between King Henry III of France and the future King Henry IV of France which resulted in their alliance against the Catholic League. The present building is only a small part of the château originally built by Louis XI in the 15th century. The original château had three wings in the shape of a U. The room where Louis XI died can be visited. It has late 15th-century wooden linenfold panelling. The first floor has paintings and sculpture devoted to St. Francis of Paola, whom Louis XI summoned to live near him until his death. Inside the château is a display of iron cages which were suspended from the ceiling and used to hold prisoners. The cages were so small that the prisoners were unable to stand. The remaining wing, which had long been used as a dairy farm and a buckshot factory, has been listed as a monument historique since 1927 by the French Ministry of Culture.

On May 23, 2023, an individual attacked the LGBT center in Tours, France, with an explosive device containing acid and aluminum. The attack resulted in no casualties as the people inside the center managed to move away from the device. An investigation for attempted murder has been opened. On June 1, 2023, the prime suspect, a 17-year-old integralist Catholic, was arrested.

Tours Métropole Val de Loire is the métropole, an intercommunal structure, centred on the city of Tours. It is located in the Indre-et-Loire department, in the Centre-Val de Loire region, central France. It was created in March 2017, replacing the previous Communauté urbaine Tour(S) Plus. Its area is 389.2 km2. Its population was 294,220 in 2018, of which 136,463 in Tours proper.

The Basilica of St. Martin is a Roman Catholic basilica dedicated to Saint Martin of Tours, over whose tomb it was built. It is located in Tours, France.The first basilica was established here in the 5th century (consecrated in 471) on the site of an earlier chapel. It was at first served by a community of monks under an abbot, the Abbot of St Martin, who between 796 and 804 was Alcuin, the adviser of Charlemagne. Shortly before this the monastic establishment was changed to a collegiate church manned by a community of canons, but the office and title of abbot persisted.The mediaeval basilica was completely demolished during the French Revolution. The present church was built between 1886 and 1924 by French architect Victor Laloux in a neo-Byzantine style, on part of the site of the original basilica which was repurchased by the Church. It was dedicated on July 4, 1925.
