Lierskogen is the easternmost village of Lier municipality in Viken county, Norway. Lierskogen makes up the eastern part of Lier together with the nearby village of Tranby. It borders Asker to the east and Drammen to the west. One of the busiest highways in Norway, European route E18 runs straight through the agricultural landscape of Lierskogen.

Ovenstadlia is a village in Lier municipality, Norway. Located just north of the village Kjenner, it is a part of the urban area Kjenner, which has a population of 1,574.

Hennummarka is a village in Lier municipality, Norway. Located just north of the village Tranby, it is a part of the urban area Tranby which has a population of 5,580.

Reistad is a small village in Lier municipality in Buskerud, Norway. Its population in 1999 was 554, and since 2001 has considered a part of the urban area of Lierbyen.

Lier is a municipality in Buskerud county, Norway. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Lierbyen. The municipality of Lier was established on 1 January 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt). The area Åssiden was transferred from Lier to the neighboring municipality of Drammen on 1 July 1951. Norway's longest indoor shopping center, Liertoppen, is located in Lierskogen. The newspaper Lierposten is published in Lier.

Lier Station (Norwegian: Lier holdeplass) is located at the village of Lier, Norway on the railway Drammen Line. The station is served by the Oslo Commuter Rail L13, service with half-hour headway by Vy. The station is served by line L1, with one departure at 01:54 to Drammen.

Lieråsen Tunnel is a single-tubed railway tunnel of the Drammen Line situated in Asker and Lier in Norway. At a length of 10.723 kilometers (6.663 mi), the double track tunnel is located immediately between Asker Station and Lier Station. It is used for a mix of short- and long-haul passenger trains and freight trains. Construction of the tunnel commenced in 1962, along with a new section of track between the tunnel and Brakerøya Station. Inadequate geological surveys ahead of construction resulted in the tunnel being built in the middle of an altered and crushed zone, delaying construction and eventually shifting the route 300 meters (980 ft) to the southwest. The tunnel opened on 3 June 1973. In addition to providing double track, it shortened the Drammen Line by 12.4 kilometers (7.7 mi). Part of the old section of the Drammen Line became the Spikkestad Line, while the rest of line was closed. Lieråsen was the longest railway tunnel in the country until the Romerike Tunnel opened in 1999.

Braathen SAFE Flight 239, also known as the Asker Accident (Norwegian: Asker-ulykken), was a controlled flight into terrain of a Fokker F28 Fellowship into Vestmarka in Asker, Norway, on 23 December 1972 at 16:33. The Braathens SAFE aircraft was en route on a scheduled flight from Ålesund Airport, Vigra and crashed during approach to Oslo Airport, Fornebu. Forty of the forty-five people on board the aircraft died, making it the deadliest civil aviation accident in Norway until Vnukovo Airlines Flight 2801 in 1996. According to Norwegian newspaper Dagbladet on 23 December 1992, a Danish citizen died of late complications in 1976. The pilots took a short-cut during approach on runway 06 at Fornebu. Combined with false signals from the instrument landing system (ILS), this caused the pilots to misunderstand their location. This in turn led them to take an incorrect landing path, causing the plane to hit ground in a hilly area. The rescue operation was initiated almost immediately, but it took six and a half hours to find the aircraft. Three years later, the investigation commission concluded that various measures should be put in place to improve navigation, to avoid similar situations in which pilots misunderstood their location.

Tranby is a village in Lier municipality in Viken, Norway. The village consists mainly of three residential areas located in a semi-circle around a small forest area. Tranby is a part of a greater urban area which also encompasses the village of Hennummarka. The urban area is named Tranby and has a population of 5,322.Tranby Church (Tranby kirke) dates from 1855. It was designed by architects Heinrich Ernst Schirmer and Wilhelm von Hanno. The edifice is constructed of stone and has 360 seats. Access to the site is via Rv282 and Rv285.

Dikemark Hospital is a psychiatric hospital with 170 patients in Asker, Norway. The hospital was owned and managed by the municipality of Oslo but has been a part of Ullevål hospital since 2001. It was opened in 1905, when the city council of Christiania bought the farm Dikemark, in Asker. Patients were moved from the "Christiania municipal insanity asylum" (Sindssygeasyl) to the newly established Dikemark psychiatric hospital. The hospital consists of the following departments: National Coordination Unit for Sentences to Compulsory Mental Health Care, Psychosis Unit 1, Psychosis Unit 2, Regional Competence Service for Psychiatry and Developmental Disorders, Regional Section of Psychiatry and Developmental Disorders (PUA), Regional Security Section (RSA), Section for Psychosis Treatment and Security Psychiatric C. In 1981, several film canisters containing the original cut of the 1928 silent film The Passion of Joan of Arc were discovered in a janitor closet in the hospital.

Spikkestad Station (Norwegian: Spikkestad stasjon) is a railway station located at Spikkestad in Røyken, Norway, and is the terminus of the Spikkestad Line. It was opened as part of the Drammen Line on 3 February 1885, but in 1973 the new Lieråsen Tunnel opened through Lieråsen, and the old part of the Drammen Line became a commuter train line with Spikkestad, which is today primarily a residential town, as its western terminus. The station is served by a half-hourly service of commuter trains running to Asker, Sandvika, and Oslo Central Station (journey time: 52 minutes) and then on to Lillestrøm. The old station building, which was originally built to serve Høvik and was moved from there in 1922, today stands a hundred metres or so distant from the end of the line, following redevelopment of the station area in 2012-16 and the construction of new platforms.

Spikkestad is a village in the municipality of Asker, in the province of Akershus, Norway. Its current population (2022) is between 4000 and 5000.Spikkestad is located in the northern part of the peninsula of Hurumlandet, closer to the Drammensfjord than the Oslo Fjord. Spikkestad railway station was opened in 1885 to link Asker to Drammen. The village was named after the farm "Spikkestad", as the station was built on its lands. In the early 1970s, the Lieråsen tunnel was built 3 km to the North-West of the village, which made the trip between Oslo and Drammen much shorter. The segment of the train track between Spikkestad and Drammen was closed after the tunnel opened. Spikkestad thus became the terminus of Spikkestadbanen. However, there are still trains running between Asker and Spikkestad, every half-hour. Spikkestad is also well connected by road. The Norwegian National Road 23 (now European highway E134) runs through the outskirts of the village and the road provides links to Drammen and Drøbak. Drammen is the closest large city, only 11 km away from Spikkestad. During the industrialization of the town at the end of the 19th century, factories and schools, as well as an influx of new inhabitants made the village into more than just a train station. The manufacturing company Elopak was founded in Spikkestad in 1957.Spikkestad and the area surrounding it have a long history dating back to the viking era. Once a year, the community organizes an historic walk (Oldtidsveien), which travels along sites such as a historic burial site. It runs from Gullaug on the Drammen Fjord to Slemmestad on the Oslo Fjord.
