Gipping Great Wood

Gipping is a village and civil parish in the Mid Suffolk district of Suffolk in eastern England. Located around three miles north north-east of Stowmarket, in 2005 its population was 80. At the 2011 Census the population remained less than 100 and was included in the civil parish of Old Newton with Dagworth. The parish contains Great Gipping Wood, an ancient woodland and SSSI, whilst the River Gipping runs through it. It shares a parish council with neighbouring Old Newton with Dagworth.

Stowupland High School is a co-educational secondary school and sixth form situated in the Suffolk village Stowupland. It caters for students aged 11–18 from Year 7 - Year 11 in the main school and Year 12 and 13 in the Sixth Form. Previously a community school administered by Suffolk County Council, in September 2016 Stowupland High School converted to academy status. The school is now sponsored by the John Milton Academy Trust.

Stowupland is a village 1 mile (2 km) east of Stowmarket, Suffolk, England. Stowupland means "a place occupied on higher ground than Stowmarket", with the Saxons calling the village Ultuna due to the far higher presence of owls in the woods that previously stood on the site of Holy Trinity Church ('Ul' meaning owl). Stowupland High School is found in the village. Stowupland is centred on several village greens and has numerous amenities including, a petrol station, a butchers, a Chinese takeaway, a chip shop and two public houses - The Crown and The Retreat. As well as the High School there is Freeman Community Primary School, which has an attached pre-school. There are active football, cricket and bowls clubs in the village. A lottery grant funded gym and indoor sports facility is available for public use at the high school. The village implements a "Parish Plan" to help steer the development of the village. The plan was produced following the completion and analysis of a questionnaire that was sent to every dwelling and allows residents to have a degree of say in what happens in the village. One of the main aims is to try to maintain Stowupland's separation from the nearby market town of Stowmarket which has expanded considerably in recent years with just a single field now separating properties in Stowmarket from Stowupland. A monthly magazine, "The Telstar", is delivered free to every household and contains reports from parish and local council as well as various articles from residents, clubs and churches in the village. Stowupland previously hosted an event (Music on The Green) which took place in June each year. Due to lack of interest (occasional bad weather) the event was discontinued. The A1120 tourist route runs through the village and the A14 trunk road is located just to its south.

Old Newton is a village in the Mid Suffolk district of Suffolk in eastern England. Located within the civil parish of Old Newton with Dagworth, the village is situated around two miles north of Stowmarket, to the east of the junction of the Great Eastern Main Line and the Ipswich to Ely Line. Until the Beeching Axe it was served by Haughley railway station. In 2018 it had an estimated population of 809.

Creeting St Peter is a village and civil parish in the Mid Suffolk district of Suffolk in eastern England. Located to the north of the A14 road between Stowmarket and Needham Market, in 2005 its population was 260. increasing to 275 at the 2011 Census.

Cotton is a small village and civil parish located in the Mid Suffolk district of Suffolk in eastern England. Cotton lies a few miles to the east of the Great Eastern Main Line and to the west of the A140. Nearby villages include Mendlesham and Bacton, and the parish also includes the small hamlet of Dandy Corner. Its precise location is 4+1⁄2 miles north east of its post town, Stowmarket, and 2+1⁄2 miles north west of Mendlesham.In 2005 its population was 510 and according to the 2011 census, the total population had increased by 16 to 526.In the 1870s, Cotton was described as "a parish in Hartismere district, Suffolk; on the Eastern Union railway, 1½ mile S of Finningham r. station, and 6 N by E of Stowmarket. The church is good; and there is a Wesleyan chapel, a parochial school, and charities."

Old Newton with Dagworth is a civil parish in the Mid Suffolk district of Suffolk in eastern England. The parish contains the village of Old Newton, as well as the hamlets of Brown Street, Dagworth and Ward Green. In 2005 its population was 1,050. The parish shares a parish council with neighbouring Gipping.

Stow was a hundred of Suffolk, consisting of 22,710 acres (91.9 km2).Stow Hundred a fertile and picturesque district in central Suffolk around seven miles (11 km) in length and breadth. It is bounded by Cosford, Bosmere and Claydon, Thedwestry, Blackbourn and Hartismere Hundreds. It is in the Deanery to which it gives name and was in the Archdeaconry of Sudbury until 1837 when it was added to the Archdeaconry of Suffolk, and is thus still in the Diocese of Norwich. It is watered by the River Gipping. The word "stow" means place, as in "stow away", and the name of the hundred was probably derived from an old name for Stowmarket, the hundred's largest town.

Suffolk ( SUF-ək) is a ceremonial county in the East of England and East Anglia. It is bordered by Norfolk to the north, the North Sea to the east, Essex to the south, and Cambridgeshire to the west. Ipswich is the largest settlement and the county town. The county has an area of 3,798 km2 (1,466 sq mi) and a population of 758,556. The Suffolk coastline is a complex habitat, formed by London clay and crag underlain by chalk and therefore susceptible to erosion. It contains several deep estuaries, including those of the rivers Byth, Deben, Orwell, Stour, and Alde/Ore; the latter is 25.5 km (15.8 mi) long and separated from the North Sea by Orford Ness, a large spit. Large parts of the coast are backed by heath and wetland habitats, such as Sandlings. The north-east of the county contains part of the Broads, a network of rivers and lakes. Inland, the landscape is flat and gently undulating, and contains part of Thetford Forest on the Norfolk border and Dedham Vale on the Essex border. It is also known for its extensive farming and has largely arable land. Newmarket is known for horse racing, and Felixstowe is one of the largest container ports in Europe.

Prentice Brothers Limited was an English fertiliser manufacturer founded in Stowmarket, Suffolk during the mid-1850s. The company produced a number of "chemical manure" products that used coprolites and rock phosphates among other ingredients.

Stowmarket railway station is on the Great Eastern Main Line (GEML) in the East of England, serving the market town of Stowmarket, Suffolk. It is 80 miles 9 chains (128.9 km) down the line from London Liverpool Street and is situated between Needham Market to the south and Diss to the north. It is also the junction where the Ipswich to Ely Line joins the GEML. Its three-letter station code is SMK. The station is currently operated by Abellio Greater Anglia, which also runs all trains that serve the station.

Stowmarket ( STOH-mar-kət) is a market town in Suffolk, England, on the busy A14 trunk road between Bury St Edmunds to the west and Ipswich to the southeast. The town lies on the Great Eastern Main Line (GEML) between Diss and Needham Market, and lies on the River Gipping, which is joined by its tributary, the River Rat, to the south of the town. The town takes its name from the Old English word stōw meaning "principal place", and was granted a market charter in 1347 by Edward III. A bi-weekly market is still held there today on Thursday and Saturday. The population of the town has increased from around 6,000 in 1981 to around 19,000 in 2011, with considerable further development planned for the town and surrounding villages as part of an area action plan. It is the largest town in the Mid Suffolk district and is represented in parliament by the MP for Bury St Edmunds, currently Jo Churchill.
