Bland Street is a light rail station in Charlotte, North Carolina, United States. The at-grade dual side platforms are a stop along the Lynx Blue Line and serves South End and nearby Dilworth neighborhood.

South End is a high-density commercial and residential neighborhood immediately southwest of Uptown Charlotte. It is also one of three Municipal Service Districts in Charlotte.

On August 22, 2025, Iryna Zarutska was killed at the East/West Boulevard station on the Lynx Blue Line, in Charlotte, North Carolina, United States. Zarutska, a 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee who had fled her country because of the Russian invasion, was stabbed from behind three times while seated on the train. The suspected assailant, Decarlos Brown Jr., was arrested upon exiting the train and charged with first-degree murder. The killing drew international coverage for Zarutska's status as a refugee seeking safety in the United States and prompted statements from Charlotte mayor Vi Lyles, North Carolina governor Josh Stein, and President Donald Trump. Footage of the killing sparked outrage on social media, leading to policy discussions about transit security, fare enforcement, and gaps in the criminal justice and mental health systems. In North Carolina, the killing prompted the passage of House Bill 307, dubbed "Iryna's Law", which set out various criminal law reforms, including seeking to resume capital punishment in the state.

The Lowe's Global Technology Center (also known as the Design Center Tower) is a 23-story office building under construction in South End Charlotte, North Carolina. When completed in 2021, it will stand at a height of around 357 feet (108.81 Meters) which will make it the tallest building in South End and outside of Uptown Charlotte, slightly taller than The Arlington at 310 feet. The building will be primarily occupied by Lowe's. Lowes will be occupying 357,000 square feet over 15 floors. The building will have an additional 20,000 feet of retail and restaurant space on the ground floor.Lowes will be investing $153 million into the building as a tech hub for 2,000 employees. 400 jobs will be transferring from the company's headquarters in Mooresville, the remaining 1,600 employees will be new hires. The state has offered Lowes $54.1 million of incentives for the development of 1,600 new jobs. The state also be awarding Lowe's a $2 million grant from its North Carolina One Fund. Lowe's also considered Dallas for the expansion. Ultimately Charlotte was chosen owing to its proximity to the company's headquarters in Mooresville, North Carolina and the appeal of South End to the millennial population. The generation enjoys living in denser urban areas with access to the light rail, scooters, and an area that is easily walkable.Lowe's CEO Marvin Ellison views expanding IT as a way to become a better retailer. He believes one of the characteristics of a greater retailer is one that has a great technology platform. He went on to explain that this project modernize Lowe's technology systems and drive company growth.Lowe's has already been hiring for the 1,600 new positions. Prior to the pandemic these positions were being housing at 200,000 square of leased space in Charlotte Plaza in Uptown Charlotte, IT employees began moving into this space in June 2019. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic the Charlotte Business Journal reported that Lowe's has listed 125,000 square of this space for sublease. The remaining 75,000 of space will be available for remote employees. Lowe's Charlotte Plaza leases is effective until July 2024.Lowe's recently stated their target move in is the summer of 2022. The hiring numbers for the 1,600 new positions stands at 1,200 employees. The building will be occupied by several ground retail tenants including the Salted Melon, Brown Bag Seafood, and Allbirds.

Former Daniel A. Tompkins Company Machine Shop is a historic factory building located at Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. It was built in 1904–1905, and is a two-story, brick factory building with a rectangular plan and a small, one story ell. It was expanded in 1911 and an office section was added before 1929. The D.A. Tompkins Company was makers of textile machinery, supplies, and equipment.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.

Former Nebel Knitting Mill is a historic textile mill building located at Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. It was designed by noted mill architect Richard C. Biberstein and built in 1927 and expanded in 1929. It is a two-story, reinforced concrete building with a brick veneer and decorative concrete detailing with Art Moderne detailing. The building has a rectangular plan measuring 204 feet across the facade and 182 feet deep. The 1927 portion has a stepped-parapet roofline with concrete coping, while the mill's 1929 part has concrete coping and a simple, crenelated roofline.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.

Tremont was a heritage streetcar station in Charlotte, North Carolina. The at-grade side platform, located near Tremont Avenue, was a stop for the Charlotte Trolley in the South End neighborhood.

The Arlington is a 310 feet (94 m) tall mixed-use high-rise in Charlotte, North Carolina. The building was the first residential high-rise and first mixed use high-rise development in the city. The developer, Jim Gross, is also noted for the first downtown residential development (Ivey's) and the first loft-style development in the city (Factory South) among many other developments. It was completed in 2003 and has 24 floors and an outdoor swimming pool on the roof. It is the 16th tallest building in Charlotte, and is the tallest building outside of downtown. It was originally planned to be 425 ft (130 m) and 42 stories tall when announced in September 1997, but it was scaled back because the developer was unable to secure the financing required to build a 425-foot (130 m) building. Because the building is located outside the I-277 inner-loop, the apartments on the city-side of the building have a fantastic view of the Charlotte skyline. A residential tower with some office and commercial space, The Arlington is well known because of its pink glass. Local nicknames include "Big Pink", "The Pink Building", and "Pepto-Bismol." The actual color of the glass is "Desert Rose" or "6F2828". The color does not tint views from the inside. The building is notable for being the location of Nikko's, a large modern sushi restaurant which is one of Charlotte's hottest night spots.

Atherton Mill was a heritage streetcar station in Charlotte, North Carolina. The former at-grade side platform was located in front of the Trolley Barn at Atherton Mill and it had served as the southern terminus of the Charlotte Trolley, which connected South End to Uptown Charlotte.

Fire Station No. 2, also known as the Old Dilworth Fire Station, is a historic fire station located at Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. It built in 1909, and is a two-story red brick building with two equipment bays on the ground level and firefighters dormitory space upstairs. Since 2010, it has been used as a commercial building, hosting a spa.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
