Cochin Special Economic Zone

Kakkanad is a major industrial and residential region in Thrikkakkara, in the Ernakulam district of Kerala, India. The region is part of the Kochi metropolitan area. Kakkanad houses many IT and industrial projects such as the Cochin Special Economic Zone, Infopark, Smart City and KINFRA Export Promotion Industrial Park. It is also the administrative headquarters of the District of Ernakulam. In the democratic local government, Kakkanad is part of Thrikkakara Municipality. The district office is located in Kakkanad. The collectorate of Ernakulam district is also located here.

Ernakulam (IPA: [erɐɳɐːguɭɐm] ; ISO: Eṟaṇākuḷaṁ) is one of the 14 districts in the Indian state of Kerala, and takes its name from the eponymous city division in Kochi. It is situated in the central part of the state, spans an area of about 2,924 square kilometres (1,129 sq mi), and is home to over 9% of Kerala's population. Its headquarters are located at Kakkanad. The district includes Kochi, also known as the commercial capital of Kerala, which is famous for its ancient churches, Hindu temples, synagogues and mosques. The district includes the largest metropolitan region of the state: Greater Cochin. Ernakulam district yields the highest revenue and the largest number of industries in the state. Ernakulam is the third most populous district in Kerala, after Malappuram and Thiruvananthapuram (out of 14 districts). The district also hosts the highest number of international and domestic tourists in Kerala state. The most commonly spoken language in Ernakulam is Malayalam. English is widely used, mostly in business circles. Ernakulam became India's first district to have 100 percent banking or full "meaningful financial inclusion" in 2012.Ernakulam has a high Human Development Index of 0.801 (UNHDP report 2005), which is one of the highest in India.

Vazhakala is a neighbourhood region in the city of Kochi in Kerala, India. It is situated around 5 km (3 mi) from the city center and is part of Thrikkakkara Municipality. It can be classified as a typical residential area adjacent to schools, colleges and professional institutions.it has a history about 150 years mainly associated with age old churches and temples.

Rajagiri School of Engineering & Technology (Autonomous) (RSET) is an educational institution located in Kochi, Kerala, India, offering engineering education and research. RSET is affiliated to APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University and approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).RSET is managed by the Sacred Heart Province of the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI) congregation. RSET is a part of the Rajagiri Vidyapeetham (transl. "seat of knowledge"). In 2020, the college was granted autonomous status by the University Grants Commission, being among the first technical institutions in Kerala to have such a status.

Bhavan's Varuna Vidyalaya is a senior secondary school situated at Thrikkakara, in the city of Kochi, India. The school is a joint venture of the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan and Naval Physical and Oceanographic Laboratory (NPOL). It is affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education.

Vennala is a ward of Kochi, Kerala. It was one of the early panchayats of Kerala, that was amalgamated with other panchayats during the formation of Kochi corporation. Located at around 6 km from the city center, it spans the area from Alinchuvadu to Arkakkadavu and from Kottenkavu to Padivattom. The famous Vennala Mahadeva temple and Kottangavu Bhagavathi, Mangala temple are located here. Vennala Sneham Mathrubhumi study circle, Century club, Vennala Abhayamatha Church, Vennala St. Mathews Church and Vennala Govt. HSS, Absolute academy are in this circle. The mosque called "Vadakaneith Pally" is also located here. Vennala hosted the India's first professional Club "F C COCHIN". Ernakulam Medical Centre is a multi-speciality hospital located in this suburb. Almeka Medical Centre is a specialists’ centre for skin laser and cosmetic treatments located in this suburb. Bharat Petroleum refueling station "Vennala Fuels" also adds value to this township. Its proximity to Vyttila bus terminal has been attracting many builders to develop residential neighborhoods across this region. There are some bank branches in located there State Bank of India (2branches), Panjab National Bank, Axis Bank.

The Naval Physical and Oceanographic Laboratory or NPOL is a laboratory of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), under the Ministry of Defence, India. It is situated in Thrikkakara, Kochi, Kerala. NPOL is responsible for the Research & Development of sonar systems, technologies for underwater surveillance, study of ocean environment and underwater materials.

Thuthiyoor is a region near Kakkanad in the city of Kochi in Kerala, India. Thuthiyoor shares its boundaries with Chittethukara, Eroor, Kakkanad and Palachuvadu. The rear wall of Cochin Special Economic Zone forms the north-eastern boundary. It has a history of about 100 years, mainly associated with the local mosque Palachuvadu Juma Masjid and Sreekrishnaswamy Temple (only one Sreekrishna temple in Thrikkakara Panchayathu). There are other six temples in this village. Two Christian churches, three schools and two convents are situated in this village. Most of the people are god fearing and harmonious. St. Charles school, St. Mary's school and Bhavans Adarsha Vidyalaya are the main schools in this area. The Sisters of St. Charles Borromeo established the St. Charles Convent at Thuthiyoor in 1993. This convent's work included the establishment of an English Medium school, which opened in 1996.The infamous 300 feet deep "Paaramada" is a must watch. There is a tradition of young Malayali boys (also called 'Freakens' or 'Frrreakenz') who play a peculiar style of cricket every evening, barring the days when it rains during game time (between 4 and 6.30 pm).

Brahmapuram Diesel Power Plant is a 106.6 MW public sector power station in Kochi, India run by the Kerala State Electricity Board, commissioned in 1997. It is controlled by Kerala load Distribution Center(KLDC).

SmartCity Kochi is an information technology special economic zone in Kochi, Kerala, India. A joint venture company named Smart City (Kochi) Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd. was formed by Government of Kerala (16% holding) and Dubai Holding (84% holding) to implement the project. The project is spread over an area of 246 acres (99.6 ha) and envisions a minimum 8.8 million sq ft of built up space out of which at least 6.21 million sq ft will be specifically for IT/ITES/allied services. The project is expected to create over 90,000 direct jobs.The Phase 1 of the project, consisting of a 6,50,000 sq. ft. IT tower named SCK-01 and associated infrastructure, was inaugurated on February 20, 2016, by the then Chief Minister of Kerala, Oommen Chandy. SmartCity Kochi is one of the first two projects of SmartCity's vision to build a large network of knowledge-based industry townships across the world. Other being SmartCity Malta, whose first phase was inaugurated in October 2010. As of 2021, SmartCity houses about 50 companies which includes Fortune 500 corporations such as Baker Hughes and Ernst & Young, employing close to 5,000 professionals.

Edachira is an area in the Kakkanad region of Kochi city in Kerala, India. Situated in the eastern part of the city, Edachira was pushed to the forefront of Kerala's IT map with the establishment of InfoPark and SmartCity.
