Canton of Istres

Istres (French pronunciation: [istʁ]; Occitan: Istre) is a commune in southern France, some 60 km (38 mi) northwest of Marseille. It is in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, in the Bouches-du-Rhône department, of which it is a subprefecture.

The arrondissement of Istres is an arrondissement of France in the Bouches-du-Rhône department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. It has 21 communes. Its population is 327,971 (2016), and its area is 715.2 km2 (276.1 sq mi).

Istres-Le Tubé Air Base (French: Base Aérienne 125 or BA 125) is a large multi-role tasked French Air and Space Force base located near Istres, northwest of Marseille, France. The airport facilities are also known as Istres - Le Tubé (ICAO airport code: LFMI).

Étang de Lavalduc, or La Valduc, is a saltwater lagoon with varying levels of salinity in the Mediterranean Sea, west of the Étang de Berre and north of Fos-sur-Mer. The property belongs to the Salins du Midi company, which has made it a storage tank for brine. It is located in three municipalities: Saint-Mitre-les-Remparts, Istres and Fos-sur-Mer, Bouches-du-Rhône. Its coloring of an iridescent pink blue is due to the presence of small crustaceans such as Artemia salina. Located at an average altitude of about 10 m below sea level, it is the lowest point in France.

Stade Parsemain is a Multi-purpose stadium in Fos-sur-Mer, France. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home stadium of FC Istres. The stadium is able to hold 12,500 people and was built in 2005.

The Touloubre is a river in the southeast of France. It runs from Venelles to the Étang de Berre. Other places along its course are Pélissanne, Salon-de-Provence, Grans and Saint-Chamas. It flows into the Étang de Berre, which is connected to the Mediterranean Sea, near Saint-Chamas. It is 59.6 km (37.0 mi) long. Its drainage basin is 401 km2 (155 sq mi).

The Pont Flavien (English: Flavian Bridge) is a Roman bridge across the River Touloubre in Saint-Chamas, Bouches-du-Rhône department, southern France. The single-arch crossing, which was built from limestone, was on a Roman road - the Via Julia Augusta - between Placentia, Italy and Arles. It is the only surviving example of a Roman bridge bounded by triumphal arches from the Augustan period, although similar bridges probably existed elsewhere, as indicated by portrayals on coins of the late 1st century BC.

EPNER (École du Personnel Navigant d’Essais et de Réception) is the French test pilot school, based on the Istres Le Tube Airbase, France. One of the five main test pilot schools in the western hemisphere, EPNER maintains close links with the three schools; the Empire Test Pilots' School (ETPS); the United States Air Force Test Pilot School (USAFTPS) and the United States Naval Test Pilot School (USNTPS).

Gare de Miramas is a railway station serving the town Miramas, Bouches-du-Rhône department, southeastern France. It is situated on the Paris–Marseille railway, and on branch lines towards Martigues and Salon-de-Provence. It is served by trains between Marseille, Avignon and Arles.

Miramas (French pronunciation: [miʁamas]; Occitan: Miramàs) is a commune in the Bouches-du-Rhône department, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, southern France. It is the second-largest commune in metropolitan Ouest-Provence and is located at the north end of the Étang de Berre lagoon, adjacent to and northeast of the city of Istres. Miramas station has rail connections to Marseille, Avignon, Martigues and Arles.
