Rhiwderin railway station served the Welsh village of Rhiwderin near Newport, Wales.

Rhiwderin (Welsh: Rhiwderyn) is a small village in the west of the city of Newport, South Wales. It lies in the community parish and electoral district (ward) of Graig. The original village lies across a level crossing alongside the Ebbw Valley Railway and off the main A468 Newport—Caerphilly road. There are additional houses on the other side of the main road known as Rhiwderin Heights which have almost merged the village with neighbouring Bassaleg. The Pentrepoeth School is the local primary school in the area. Rhiwderin Community Centre is located in the former village school and administered by Graig Community Council.The village was served by Rhiwderin railway station until 1954. Rhyderin lies on the route of the old Brecon and Merthyr Tydfil Junction Railway line. The line now ends at Machen Quarry and carries only freight trains. The trackbed from Machen to Caerphilly is now part of National Cycle Route 4. Then reopening of the line for passenger traffic is being considered as part of the South East Wales Metro. Graig is an electoral ward and coterminous community (parish) of the city of Newport, South Wales. The ward is bounded by the Ebbw River and M4 motorway to the east, the city boundary to the north and west. The southern boundary is formed by a line from the M4/A467 intersection in a roughly westerly direction as far as the city boundary. The area is governed by the Newport City Council. The ward contains Bassaleg, Rhiwderin and the hamlet of Lower Machen. It also contains the western half of the Foxgloves estate – as the Ebbw passes through the centre, the eastern half is in Rogerstone. Location of a large Roman fort and its earthworks can be seen from the motorway.

Newport West (Welsh: Gorllewin Casnewydd) is a constituency of the Senedd. It elects one Member of the Senedd by the first past the post method of election. Also, however, it is one of eight constituencies in the South Wales East electoral region, which elects four additional members, in addition to eight constituency members, to produce a degree of proportional representation for the region as a whole. It is currently represented by Jayne Bryant for Labour.

Rogerstone railway station (Welsh: Tŷ-du) is a station on the Ebbw Valley Railway in the community of Rogerstone in Newport, south Wales. The station is situated ½ mile north of the original station on the site of former rail sidings. The station is within the Afon Village housing development. Access to the single-platform station and associated car park is off Lily Way. The station opened on 6 February 2008 when services between Cardiff Central and Ebbw Vale Parkway commenced, with trains being operated by Arriva Trains Wales. On 17 May 2015, a new northern terminus was opened at Ebbw Vale Town railway station. In 2018, Transport for Wales took over running of the services. On 13 December 2021, a direct service to Newport railway station was added, suspended in January 2022 because of staff shortages caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and reinstated in May 2022.

Rogerstone (Welsh: Tŷ du, meaning "Black house") is a large village and community (parish) in Newport, Wales. The area is governed by Newport City Council. The village falls within the ancient parish of Bassaleg and historic county of Monmouthshire. The parish lies at the gateway to the Sirhowy valley, to the north of Newport on the eastern side of the Ebbw River. It is bounded by the M4 motorway to the south, the Ebbw River to the west, the Henllys Vale to the east and the city boundary with Caerphilly county borough to the north. Rogerstone railway station is on the Ebbw Valley Railway. It opened on 6 February 2008 and links Ebbw Vale to Cardiff Central and Newport via Rogerstone. Pye Corner railway station, to the south of the ward and on the same line, was opened on 14 December 2014.

Bassaleg (Welsh: Basaleg) is a suburb on the west side of Newport, Wales. It is in the Graig electoral ward and community. Bassaleg is located two miles northwest of Newport city centre. Bassaleg is bounded by the A467 road (A4072) to the east, the railway spur to Lower Machen (the former Brecon and Merthyr Railway) to the north, the St Mellons Road (B4288) to the south and Rhiwderin to the east. The Ebbw River runs through the area. The A468 road passes through towards Caerphilly and junction 28 of the M4 motorway is less than a mile to the south.

The Welsh Oak is a pub located in Pontymister, Caerphilly County Borough, Wales. In recent years, due to a decline in trade, the pub has ceased trading.This was the final meeting place of John Frost, Zephaniah Williams and William Jones, all members of the Chartist movement in South Wales in the 1830s prior to and during the Newport Rising of 1839. Each man headed up a column of men all supporting the movement of Chartism. After spending the night at the Welsh Oak the combined columns moved on to the Westgate Hotel, Newport, where they were met by soldiers and a battle ensued. The building was damaged by a fire on 7 August 2020 but is now being restored and intended for conversion to a private dwelling.

Newport West (Welsh: Gorllewin Casnewydd) is one of two parliamentary constituencies for the city of Newport, South Wales, in the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It elects one Member of Parliament (MP) using the first-past-the-post voting system. Paul Flynn, of the Labour Party, was the MP from the 1987 general election until his death on 17 February 2019. Consequently, a by-election was held in the constituency on Thursday 4 April 2019. It is currently represented by Ruth Jones. The constituency is set to be abolished, as part of the 2023 Periodic Review of Westminster constituencies and under the June 2023 final recommendations of the Boundary Commission for Wales for the next United Kingdom general election. Its wards is to be split between Newport East, and Newport West and Islwyn.

Bassaleg School (Welsh: Ysgol Basaleg) is a comprehensive secondary school for pupils aged 11 to 18 years, situated in the suburb of Bassaleg on the western side of the city of Newport, South Wales. The present buildings of the school range in age from the early 20th century to the present day. The buildings form a natural campus, with playing fields, lawns and gardens. It has over 1,700 pupils. Because of expanding residential development in the area, consultations took place in 2021 to 2022 to increase capacity to over 2,000 pupils by 2023. Plans were approved by Newport City Council in February 2022 and work on the project began in March 2022.

Monmouth Comprehensive School (Welsh: Ysgol Gyfun Trefynwy) is a comprehensive secondary school for pupils aged 11–18, situated in Monmouth, Monmouthshire, Wales.

Risca Community Comprehensive School is a community comprehensive school located in the town of Risca near Newport on the eastern side of the Caerphilly County Borough, South Wales. The school was opened by Queen Elizabeth II in 1977. There are approximately 900 pupils at the school aged from 11 to 16 (School years 7–11).
