St James's Church, Ashurst

Ashurst is a village and civil parish in the Horsham District of West Sussex, England, about 2 miles (3.2 km) west of Henfield, and 11 miles (18 km) south of Horsham on the B2135 road. The village is about 0.6 miles (0.97 km) west of the River Adur. There is a 12th-century parish church dedicated to St James, where local resident Laurence Olivier's funeral was held, as well as a Church of England primary school and a pub, the Fountain Inn. The parish has a land area of 1,009 hectares (2,490 acres). In the 2001 census 226 people lived in 97 households, of whom 112 were economically active. At the 2011 Census the population was 279.

The Fountain Inn is a 16th-century public house in the village of Ashurst, in the Horsham district of West Sussex, England. After a period as a farmhouse, it was converted into the village inn and was extended and given a Georgian façade in the 18th century. English Heritage has listed the building at Grade II for its architectural and historical importance.

Bines Green is a hamlet in the Horsham District of West Sussex, England. It lies 1.9 miles (3.1 km) north west of Henfield on the B2135 road between Ashurst and Partridge Green. The western River Adur flows through the hamlet. Bines Bridge, just north of Bines Green, marks the limit of tidal waters flowing up the western Adur. Bines Bridge is 17.9 km (11.1 mi) from the mouth of the Adur at Shoreham-by-Sea.

Partridge Green was a railway station on the Steyning Line which served the village of Partridge Green. The station closed as a result of the Beeching Axe in 1966 and now forms part of the Downs Link footpath. The station buildings have been obliterated by housing and the Star Road Industrial Estate.

Partridge Green is a village in the Horsham District of West Sussex, England. It lies on the B2135 road 2.5 miles (4 km) north-west of Henfield. It is in the parish of West Grinstead. Partridge Green takes its name from a family called Partrych who were registered in the area in 1332. The name Partrych comes from the medieval word Petriche, the word for a snarer of partridges. Jolesfield was the original medieval settlement and it was only in 1861 that the village started to develop with the arrival of the Horsham to Shoreham railway line (see Steyning Line and Partridge Green railway station). St Michael and All Angels Church was built in the 1890 to keep up with the increase in population. The settlement in what today is Partridge Green originated around the road junction of the B2135 and B2116 with several houses (in 1840 there were around six houses) and an inn called the Hare and Hounds, which was one of the meeting places for the West Grinstead Hundred court between 1786 and 1802. With the arrival of the railway, the inn was replaced with a new building called the Station Inn (later Station Hotel). After the closure of the railway in 1966 it was renamed The Partridge and in 2011 it was taken over by the Dark Star Brewery, also based in the village. It is now a Free House and is no longer the Dark Star Brewery Tap, although it still sells Dark Star beers. While being small, the village has several businesses a pub, several shops, a fish and chip shop and a veterinary surgery. In addition Downs Link, a bridleway popular with cyclists and walkers, runs along the side of the village.West Sussex County Council Fire and Rescue Service also has a small station in the village.

St Michael and All Angels Church is a late nineteenth-century church in the settlement of Partridge Green in the parish of West Grinstead in West Sussex. It was built to cater for the then growing population of the village. Ian Nairn, in the Sussex volume of The Buildings of England, approves of the simplicity of this "flint village church" and comments that most "other counties would have had it much fussier". St Michael and All Angels' shares its mission with the parish church of St George's Church, West Grinstead.

Betley Bridge is a disused railway bridge, now a rail trail bridge, which crosses the confluence of the East and West Adur rivers North of Henfield in West Sussex. The Steyning Line from Shoreham to Guildford passed over it, and is now the part of the Downs Link, a public footpath. During the Second World War the Steyning Line was an important route to move sugar beet from Sussex farms from Henfield station towards the capital, and Betley Bridge was a strategic target for German bombers. Two pillboxes were created, one North and one South, to defend the bridge. A Junkers 88 which was attacking the bridge crashed in Partridge Green to the North West.

St George's Church is an Anglican church in West Grinstead, West Sussex, England. It is in the Diocese of Chichester, occupying a rural position in the Sussex Weald by the River Adur. The oldest extant part of church dates from the early 11th century with additions in the 12th and 13th centuries. A south chapel was added in the 14th century. The church contains a number of brasses and monuments that are of national importance and retains a number of features from its pre-reformation history. The chancel has some stained glass dating to the 14th century. It is the Parish church of West Grinstead with the mission shared with St. Michael and All Angels in Partridge Green. St George's is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a Grade I listed building.

West Grinstead is a village and civil parish in the Horsham District of West Sussex, England. It lies just off the B2135 road four miles (6.3 km) northwest from Henfield. It is within the ancient division of the Rape of Bramber. The western River Adur flows through the village. The parish of West Grinstead covers an area of 2584 hectares (6382 acres)and consists of the villages of West Grinstead, Littleworth, Partridge Green and Dial Post. In the 2001 census 2934 people lived in 1099 households, of whom 1547 were economically active. At the 2011 Census the population was 3,054The village should not be confused with the much larger town of East Grinstead which lies 17.5 miles (28 km) to the north-east.

The civil parish, where the lowest level political meetings are held, is West Grinstead in the north-east - its biggest settlement is 2 miles (3.2 km) east at Partridge Green. It has a population of around 100 based on the average headcount per inhabited dwelling. In 2001 the population of the civil parish as a whole was 2,934

Steyning Grammar School is a coeducational day and boarding, senior school and sixth form, located in Steyning, West Sussex, England. The school has two lower school sites catering for Years 7 and 8. The original site was located in Church Street, Steyning, which moved to The Towers in Upper Beading in August 2022. A second site opened at Rock Road in Storrington in September 2017, on the former site of Rydon Community College. A larger upper school site at Shooting Field, Steyning caters for students in Years 9 to 11 who study the Key Stage 4 curriculum over three years. The school's Sixth Form College for students in Years 12 and 13 is also based at the Shooting Field site.
