The Cajun Classic Open Invitational was a golf tournament in Louisiana on the PGA Tour in the late 1950s and 1960s, played at the Oakbourne Country Club in Lafayette, usually in late November. It debuted as the Lafayette Open Invitational in 1958, and in many years was the last tournament on the PGA Tour schedule, which attracted players fighting for position on the money list. John Barnum, the only man in the history of the PGA Tour to earn his first win after age 50, won this event in 1962 at age 51. Barnum was also the first player to win on Tour using a Ping putter.The 1963 tournament began on Thursday, November 21, but during the second round the following day, news of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy swept the course. Saturday's play was postponed in deference to the news, with the tournament finishing on Sunday with the final two rounds being played. It lost the last tournament slot on the 1969 schedule and the resulting smaller field caused monetary problems that resulted in the tournament folding.

The Freetown-Port Rico Historic District is a historic district located in downtown Lafayette, Louisiana.The 220 acre area included 677 contributing buildings and 197 non-contributing buildings, as well as one contributing structure. The district comprises residential, commercial and institutional buildings with styles typical of late 19th to early 20th century southern towns, including Folk Victorian, Colonial Revival, Neo-classical Revival, Tudor Revival, Eclectic, Bungalow/Craftsman, Minimal Traditional, Ranch and Commercial.The area includes some properties associated with Southwestern Louisiana Institute (SLI), a school founded in 1900 which later became the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Despite being inside the area, the individually listed First United Methodist Church is not considered part of the historic district.The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on February 2, 2016.

The Holy Rosary Institute is a historic school building located at 421 Carmel Street in Lafayette, Louisiana. It is one of the few remaining historic Black Catholic high school buildings in the United States.

The Paul and Lulu Hilliard University Art Museum is a museum located in Lafayette, Louisiana. It is the art museum for the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and is named after Paul and Lulu Hilliard, who donated $5 million for the building's construction.

The Charles H. Mouton House, also known as Shady Oaks, is a historic house located at 338 North Sterling Street in Lafayette, Louisiana. Built in 1848 as the residence of Charles Homere Mouton, the house is a two-and-one-half story Greek Revival building with a front gallery with Doric posts, a brick ground floor, a frame second floor and pitched roof.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on June 9, 1980. It was also added as a contributing property to the Sterling Grove Historic District at the time of its creation, on July 26, 1984.

Lafayette station is a train station in Lafayette, Louisiana, United States. It is served by the Sunset Limited, operated by Amtrak, the national railroad passenger system. The Lafayette station was originally built by the Texas and New Orleans Railroad in either 1911 or 1912, but burned in a fire and was abandoned on May 11, 2001. Completed in 2007, the $11 million restoration of the station was funded through the city government, Federal Transit Administration and the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, and included work on the exterior walls and platform canopy. The depot now houses a city transit office, waiting room for bus and Amtrak passengers and the office for the city-parish Traffic and Transportation Department.

Borden's Ice Cream Shoppe is a historic ice cream parlor on Johnston Street in Lafayette, Louisiana, built in 1940 to sell Borden ice creams. In 1981, then owner, lifelong Lafayette resident Flora Levy, died. Her will stipulated a large bequest to the University of Louisiana Lafayette's Foundation; the ice cream parlor was part of that bequest. The Foundation held the title to the building, and rented the space to the manager who continued to operate the business. The building had been passed down from generation to generation in the Levy family; Flora had received it from her mother. In May 2009, the Foundation sold the store to Lafayette Red's health club owner Red Lerille, who bought the property with the intention of keeping the local icon alive in Lafayette. Lerille plans to slightly renovate the building, adding a drive through window and outdoor seating. Lerille's daughter Kackie Lerille will manage the store. Lerille was quoted as saying that he is interested in mom-and-pop type businesses like the ice cream store. "I believe it is the American way, but it is dying fast. This location is actually the last Borden’s retail ice cream shop in the United States. It is a Lafayette tradition and my daughter and I fully intend to bring it back to its original state." Ella Mae Meaux—who had worked in the parlor for 48 years by the time it was sold to the Lerille Family—said, "Generations of family have come to Borden's for the old-fashioned ice cream parlor experience. This sale to the Lerilles ensures families will be able to continue with this experience for many years to come."

Cypress Lake is a 2-acre (0.8 ha) swamp-like lake in the heart of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette campus that started as a prehistoric bison wallow. Today it is a unique university landmark that is a habitat for native irises, alligators, turtles, birds and fish, as well as a hangout for students and a point of interest for tourists visiting Lafayette, Louisiana. Cypress Lake is casually called "The Swamp," which is also the nickname of the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns football stadium, officially named Cajun Field.

The First United Methodist Church is a historic Methodist church located at 703 Lee Avenue in Lafayette, Louisiana. Built in 1924, it is a three-story building in Classical Revival style, with a five-bay front facade and a pedimented portico with four Ionic columns. It was designed by architect J.A. Baylor and built by contractor Knapp & East. According to its NRHP nomination it is one of only three buildings in Lafayette Parish known to have a monumental portico; of those it is "the only one with ornamental fenestration surrounds. It is therefore one of the parish's most pretentious and most high style period buildings."The church was added to the National Register of Historic Places on June 21, 1984.

Sterling Grove Historic District is a historic district in downtown Lafayette, Louisiana roughly bounded by Evangeline Throughway, East Simcoe Street, North Sterling Street and Chopin Street. The 25-acre (10 ha) area comprises a total of 59 buildings, of which 43 are considered contributing properties, and one is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places as individual property. Building dates vary from 1848 to 1934 and are mostly residences. The district comprises the area of Lieutenant Governor Charles Mouton's plantation.The historic district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on July 26, 1984.
