Padworth Common Local Nature Reserve

Padworth Common is a hamlet and common in the English county of Berkshire, within the civil parish of Padworth. It is bounded by Burghfield to the east and Aldermaston to the west. To the north is Padworth and to the south is Mortimer West End.

Padworth is a dispersed settlement and civil parish in the English county of Berkshire, with the nearest town being Tadley. Padworth is in the unitary authority of West Berkshire, and its main settlement is at Aldermaston Wharf or Lower Padworth, where there is Aldermaston railway station. It has its southern boundary with Mortimer West End, Hampshire. The south of the parish is wooded towards its edges and the north of the parish is agricultural with a hotel beside the Kennet and Avon Canal. In the centre of the parish is a school, Padworth College, which is Georgian and a later incarnation of its manor house.

Padworth College is a co-educational private senior school in Padworth, Berkshire.

The Frith is a small univallate Iron Age hillfort to the north of Silchester, Calleva Atrebatum, Roman town in the English county of Hampshire. A single bank covers all sides apart from the south east, and is at the most about 5 feet (1.5 m) high on the western edge. A ditch is also traceable for the length of the bank, although at varying states.The area to the north and northwest is partially wooded. A local footpath crosses the site east to west. The site slopes from approximately 90 to 95 metres (295 to 312 ft) in the west, with the summit of the unnamed hill (102 metres (335 ft) AOD) approximately 500 metres (1,600 ft) to the southwest. Close by to the south lies a Roman road heading into Calleva Atrebatum. Also nearby, 500 metres (1,600 ft) to the west, lies a further smaller unidentified enclosure.

Decoy Pit, Pools and Woods is a 17.7-hectare (44-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest south of Aldermaston in Berkshire. An area of 8 hectares (20 acres) is a nature reserve called Decoy Heath, which is managed by the Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust.

Aldermaston Soke is a hamlet that lies on the county boundary between Berkshire and Hampshire, and is administratively part of the civil parish of Mortimer West End, which was transferred from Berkshire to Hampshire in 1879.

Pamber Heath is a village in north Hampshire, England. Situated within the civil parish of Pamber, the village lies at the north end of Pamber Forest.

Mortimer West End is a village and civil parish in north Hampshire in England. It lies in the northernmost point of the county.

Silchester is a village and civil parish about 5 miles (8 km) north of Basingstoke in Hampshire. It is adjacent to the county boundary with Berkshire and about 9 miles (14 km) south-west of Reading. Silchester is most notable for the archaeological site and Roman town of Calleva Atrebatum, an Iron Age and later Atrebates Celtic settlement first occupied by the Romans in about AD 45, and which includes what is considered the best-preserved Roman wall in Great Britain and the remains of what may be one of the oldest Christian churches.

Silchester House is a Victorian mansion located in Silchester, England on the Hampshire and Berkshire border. The west wing of the house dates back to the 17th century while newer parts of the house, such as the library and music room, were added in the late 1920s by Thomas Hartley of Hartley's. Today, it is owned by the company Bijou Wedding Venues and used to host parties and weddings.

Padworth Lock is a lock on the Kennet and Avon Canal, at Aldermaston Wharf in the civil parish of Padworth in the English county of Berkshire. Padworth Lock was built between 1718 and 1723 under the supervision of the engineer John Hore of Newbury, and was originally a turf-sided lock. The lock has a rise/fall of 5 ft 1 in (1.55 m)., and was totally rebuilt as a brick lock between 1982 and 1984. The canal is administered by the Canal & River Trust.

Sceptre was a series of early fusion power devices based on the Z-pinch concept of plasma confinement, built in the UK starting in 1956. They were the ultimate versions of a series of devices tracing their history to the original pinch machines, built at Imperial College London by Cousins and Ware in 1947. When the UK's fusion work was classified in 1950, Ware's team was moved to the Associated Electrical Industries (AEI) labs at Aldermaston. The team worked on the problems associated with using metal tubes with high voltages, in support of the efforts at Harwell. When Harwell's ZETA machine apparently produced fusion, AEI quickly built a smaller machine, Sceptre, to test their results. Sceptre also produced neutrons, apparently confirming the ZETA experiment. It was later found that the neutrons were spurious, and UK work on Z-pinch ended in the early 1960s.
