Chellaston

Chellaston Academy (formerly Chellaston Foundation School) is a comprehensive school and Academy in Chellaston in the Derby area of England, United Kingdom. In 2019 the academy partnered with Chellaston Junior School, Chellaston Infant School and Homefields primary to form the coeducational Peak Multi Academy Trust (MAT). Ryan Metters assumed the role of Headteacher following his appointment in May 2020. Its catchment area traditionally includes Chellaston, Aston-on-Trent, Weston-on-Trent, Melbourne, Ticknall, Barrow upon Trent and other areas of South Derbyshire. Pupils' ages range from 11-year-olds in year 7, through to adults in the sixth form college.

Chellaston and Swarkestone railway station was a station at Chellaston in Derbyshire, England.

Shelton Lock is a suburb in the south of the city of Derby, Derbyshire, England, located between Chellaston and Allenton. The area gets its name from the lock on the Derby Canal that once ran through the area. The only traces of the canal's existence are seen in the form of a road bridge, the lock stones, and a cycle path which covers it. The canal was shut in the 1960s but there are plans to re-excavate it. The site of Fullen's Lock is located just a few hundred yards along the present-day cycle path from Shelton Lock bridge, and a children's playground close to the site still bears the name. Merrill College is the local secondary school. It was located on Jubilee Road but was demolished – the new Merrill College is in Allenton (the old Thomas Moore school). The area also has an infant and junior school. Chellaston Road is the main road through the area, where a lot of inter-war private housing can be found. The George V Jubilee Estate was built in 1935 to commemorate King George V's silver jubilee and this lies to the west of Jubilee Road. St Edmund’s Church on Sinfin Avenue by the Derby architect Arthur Eaton was opened in 1939. The Sinfin Avenue estate was built in the 1970s, and includes a number of council and private houses. To the rear of the estate are fields and woodland, which are part of Sinfin Moor – as well as the disused railway which goes towards Chellaston. Significant areas of these fields and woodland have now been built on forming the Bonnie Prince housing estate. A spur of the M64 motorway was planned to pass through this area towards the Rolls-Royce works. This was never built and the route was instead used for the A50 road; Shelton Lock is connected to this by the A514.

Swarkestone Hall Pavilion, also known as Swarkestone Stand and The Grandstand, is a 17th-century pavilion 200 metres north of the ruins of Swarkestone Hall, Swarkestone, Derbyshire. It is a Grade I listed building south of Chellaston on the A514. The pavilion was constructed between 1630 and 1632. Its frontage displays the arms of Sir John Harpur and his wife Catherine Howard (granddaughter of the Earl of Suffolk), who had married in 1631 or 1632, so it may have been built in celebration of their marriage. The Harpur family lived at the adjacent Swarkestone (Old) Hall, built in the 1560s for Sir Richard Harpur.The purpose of the building is a matter of some debate. It has been referred to as the Bowling Alley House, The Stand, The Grandstand, The Bullring and The Summerhouse; it is also suggested it may be a banqueting house or a decorative part of a formal garden. Even the enclosure to the front of the pavilion is debated, with suggestions it may have been constructed in the 19th century when the Swarkestone estate was used for large-scale livestock breeding.

Noel-Baker Academy (formerly Noel-Baker Community School) is a co-educational secondary school located in Alvaston, Derby, England. The school takes students from the Alvaston, Boulton and Crewton areas of Derby. In September 2004, the school was awarded specialist school status as a Language College by the Department for Education and Skills (DfES).Previously a foundation school administered by Derby City Council, in February 2017, Noel-Baker Community School converted to academy status and was renamed Noel-Baker Academy. The school is now sponsored by the LEAD Multi-Academy Trust. The school was named after Olympic silver medallist, Derby South MP and Nobel Peace prize winner, Philip Noel-Baker.

Allenton is a small suburb of the city of Derby, England, situated about three miles south of the city centre. It is located between the suburbs of Osmaston, Boulton, Alvaston and Shelton Lock, and is within the Alvaston South ward. Allenton has a high footfall, with a variety of modern shops, stores and other facilities, including free parking. The suburb has its own busy market every Friday and Saturday located on Osmaston Road.

Swarkestone is a village and civil parish in the South Derbyshire district of Derbyshire, England. The population at the 2011 Census was 187.Swarkestone has a very old village church, a full cricket pitch, a plant nursery/ garden centre and restaurant called "Swarkestone Nursery", the Crewe and Harpur pub, a canal with a Georgian lock keepers cottage and moorings. It was mentioned twice in Domesday as Sorchestun or Suerchestune, when it was worth twenty shillings.

The Silver Ghost is a pub in Field Drive, Alvaston, Derby, England, that has been declared an asset of community value in order to prevent it from closure. The pub is modern and named after the Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost car that was made in Derby. In May 2017, Dawn Hall, the landlady of the pub since 2016, declared the pub a place of refuge and support centre for women who are victims of domestic abuse and children being bullied after she had to intervene in several domestic abuse incidents at the pub. It had previously been named part of a Safe Haven scheme in 2010.

Alvaston Moor Academy is a secondary school for students aged 11–16 years, located in Alvaston, Derby, England, which opened in 2021. The school operated under the name Merrill College until 2012, and then as Merrill Academy from 2013 until 2021.

Boulton is a suburb and former local government ward of the city of Derby, England, and is located about four miles to the south-east of Derby city centre. It is closely associated with Alvaston and comes under the "Alvaston" postal dependent locality and code sector (DE24 0), and the Alvaston South ward. Alvaston South is represented on Derby City Council by three councillors. The land at Boulton is recorded as belonging to Ralph fitzHubert in 1086. It has an Anglican church dedicated to St. Mary the Virgin, a Baptist church and a Grade II listed building called Nunsfield House.

Swarkestone Bridge is a medieval bridge crossing the River Trent between the villages of Swarkestone and Stanton by Bridge, about 6 miles south of Derby. It is currently Grade I Listed and a scheduled monument.
