Rhewl railway station

Rhewl is a village on the A525 between Ruthin and Denbigh in the county of Denbighshire in Wales. The village is beside the River Clywedog, which is bridged by the A525. The village is notable for its football club, Rhewl F.C. Rhewl primary school was scheduled to be shut down in 2005, but protests by local newspapers and parents of the pupils saved the school from being closed. The village holds an annual Family Fun Day with live music, hog roast, displays and many more attractions. The village is also noted for the Drovers Arms public house and Lady Bagot's Drive, a picturesque two mile walk up the River Clywedog that was originally laid as a carriageway by Lord Bagot for his wife in Edwardian times to traverse between Rhewl and Bontuchel. Parts of the drive are privately owned. Rhewl railway station was on the line opened by the Denbigh, Ruthin and Corwen Railway and closed in 1962, three years before the line's closure. The station's main building is still in existence. Rhewl was to have another station on the narrow gauge Ruthin and Cerrig-y-Drudion Railway but construction was aborted after 8 km of earthworks had been built from Ruthin to a point just west of Bontuchel. The route was abandoned in 1884.

Llanychan is a parish near Llandyrnog, Denbighshire, Wales. Covering 567 acres (2.29 km2), it is the smallest parish in the diocese of St Asaph. It is approximately three miles northeast of Ruthin. There are only two churches in Wales consecrated to Sant Hychan, and Llanychan Church, after which the parish is named, is one of them. It is mentioned in the Norwich Tax Records in 1254. Its notable features include a window dating from 1626, a reading desk from 1730, and a reredos from 1846. The church was extensively restored in 1878.There was a school in the parish until the beginning of the 20th century.

Ruthin Town Football Club is a Welsh football club, based at the Memorial Playing Fields in Ruthin, Denbighshire. Football in Ruthin dates back to 1878 when a new club was formed. In 1880 Ruthin reached the final of the Welsh Cup only to lose 2-1 to Druids. However, the club in its present form dates back to 1949 when they joined the newly re-organised Welsh National League (Wrexham Area) as Ruthin British Legion. They currently play in the Cymru North.

Gellifor is a small village in the Vale of Clwyd, Wales. Located at the foot of the Clwydian Range, in the community of Llangynhafal, it is a largely residential settlement. Community facilities are limited but include a primary school and a chapel. The last shop and post office closed around 2000, and residents rely on the towns of Ruthin and Denbigh for access to many services. The population is over 200.

St Saeran's Church lies in the village of Llanynys, Denbighshire, Wales. It was listed by Cadw at Grade I on 19 July 1966 (Cadw Building ID: 808). Between 2013 and 2015 £2.5 million was spent preserving the church, which has one of the finest medieval paintings in North Wales. The church's former importance is today evidenced in the sheer size of the interior which is large and spacious; it had close links with the Bishops of Bangor, who were its "rectors" or owners. Like many Denbighshire churches it is double-naved and has a fine pair of the characteristically local late-medieval hammerbeam roofs. The fluted timber pillars between the naves are more unusual, and much later, dating from a restoration in 1768. The church was founded in the 6th century, but the site may be of Celtic origin, and was home to a clas or religious community; it was the mother church of southern Dyffryn Clwyd (the Vale of Clwyd). Unusually, it was dedicated to Saint Saeran, a Celtic bishop-saint who also gave his name to Ffynnon Sara.

Ruthin ( RITH-in; Welsh: Rhuthun) is a market town and community in Denbighshire, Wales, in the south of the Vale of Clwyd. It is Denbighshire's county town. The town, castle and St Peter's Square lie on a hill, skirted by villages such as Pwllglas and Rhewl. The name comes from the Welsh rhudd (red) and din (fort), after the colour of sandstone bedrock, from which the castle was built in 1277–1284. The Old Mill, Ruthin, is nearby. Maen Huail, a registered ancient monument attributed to the brother of Gildas and King Arthur, stands in St Peter's Square.

Commins is a small settlement of about half a dozen dwellings in Denbighshire, Wales. It is 4 kilometres (2 mi) north of the town of Ruthin.

Ruthin Gaol (Welsh: Carchar Rhuthun) is a Pentonville style prison in Ruthin, Denbighshire. Ruthin Gaol ceased to be a prison in 1916 when the prisoners and guards were transferred to Shrewsbury. The County Council bought the buildings in 1926 and used part of them for offices, the county archives, and the town library. During the Second World War the prison buildings were used as a munitions factory, before being handed back to the County Council, when it was the headquarters of the Denbighshire Library Service. In 2004 the Gaol was extensively renovated and reopened as a museum.

The Old Mill, Ruthin, Denbighshire, North Wales was designated Grade II listed building on the 24 October 1950; the mill probably dates from around 1300. The Warden of Ruthin, the early 19th century, Archdeacon Newcome, noted that the building had been used as a garrison chapel. There are two early English pointed arches and one gable end has a blocked lancet window, with a sunken cross above. The watermill was removed from the mill during the 1950s and Mill St runs to the side of the old mill.

Llanynys (; Welsh: [ɬanˈənɪs]) is a hamlet and community (Llanynys and Rhewl Community Council) in Denbighshire, north-east Wales; (OS grid reference: SJ1062). It lies in the Vale of Clwyd, a few miles north of Ruthin, and includes the village of Rhewl. The community population at the 2011 census was 762; a 2.8% fall since the 784 people noted in 2001. The 2011 census showed 47.8% of the population could speak Welsh, a fall from 52.9% in 2001.The local church, St Saeran's, was built in the 13th Century on the site of a 6th-Century monastery; Saeran was a bishop-saint. It is situated on a small rise between the winding Clwyd and Clywedog rivers, hence the name ynys (island).

The Morning Star (or The Star Inn), Ruthin was listed as a Grade II building on 16 May 1978. It is directly opposite the Ruthin Gaol, and is claimed to be the oldest pub in Ruthin.Early in 2010 a cache of old documents was discovered in the roof of the Morning Star. They were four very dirty, tightly screwed up bundles of papers giving detail on the business of an alehouse and on ordinary life in early Victorian Ruthin. They are about John Williams who was the last of five family members to hold the licence for the Star in the early nineteenth century. The Star was originally built in 1639, as a lobby-entrance building with integral rear wing. The inn was known as the "North Pole" in 1756 with James Edwards bricklayer as the licensee; it became the "Star" in 1775 with Richard Percival, also a bricklayer, as the licensee. Finally it was renamed the Morning Star in 2010. An 1845 description mentions that the public areas were at the front of the building, with a bar and a parlour either side of the lobby entrance. Behind these was a kitchen and a brewhouse and pantry to the rear. A cellar lay below the public areas. Upstairs, there were four bedrooms, above which were lofts intended for the Star's servants.

The Collegiate and Parochial Church of St Peter is the Anglican parish church of Ruthin, an ancient market town which lies within the Vale of Clwyd in Denbighshire, north east Wales. It is a greater church of the diocese of St Asaph and a Grade I listed building.
