Welten

The Weltermolen (literally "mill from Welten") is a watermill located in Welten, Heerlen in the Netherlands. It is fed by the Geleenbeek, with some extra force created by a largely man-made pond (the Weltervijver). The Weltermolen wasn't a watermill until the start of the 20th century. During World War II (approximately 1943) the waterwheel was taken out of action and an electrical motor took over. The mill was already mentioned in the 14th century and it has a strong connection with Huis Strijthagen (or Huis Strijthagen tot Welten). The present day mill consists of a long shaped part of one floor under a Mansard roof, a tower and the mill. The tower has a weather vane shaped like a carp. The mill was restored in 1982 and is open to the public on milling days. This watermill is one of several located in the Geleenbeek stream.

Zuyd University of Applied Sciences (Dutch: Zuyd Hogeschool) is a University of Applied Sciences with campuses in Heerlen, Sittard and Maastricht in the southeastern Netherlands. The main focus of Zuyd University is on Bachelor programmes, 52 in total[1], most of them in Dutch. There are currently 8 master programmes[2]. In the latest edition of the Keuzegids Hoger Onderwijs 2008 ('2008 Higher Education Guide'), Zuyd University takes first place of the 13 larger universities of applied sciences, with an average score of 6.85.

Sintermeertencollege is a comprehensive school in Heerlen, the Netherlands, established in 1967. The school was founded by the Bernardinuscollege as a dependence school for the Bernardinuscollege in Heerlen-west (Welten) Netherlands. The school expanded in the 1980s with the Clara Mavo (vocational education) and merged with Coriovallum College in 1990. In 1993 Sintermeertencollege moved to a new premises at Valkenburgerweg 219 in Heerlen, a modern 3 storey building. Sintermeertencolege specialises in ICT, Arts, Sports, and is part of the ELOS network Sintermeertencollege is part of SVO│PL together with College Rolduc, Eijkhagencollege, Herlecollege, Praktijkonderwijs Parkstad Limburg, and Bernardinuscollege

Jan Stuyt (21 August 1868, Purmerend - 11 July 1934, The Hague) was a Dutch architect.

The Ambachtsschool in Heerlen (Jan Stuyt, 1913) is a brick building with distinctive layers of marl (a stone commonly found in the south of Limburg). It is notable as one of the earliest vocational schools in the Netherlands. The building is located on the Burgemeester de Hesselleplein (formerly known as the Lindeplein), in Heerlen.

Restaurant De Boterbloem is a defunct restaurant in Heerlen, Netherlands. It was a fine dining restaurant that was awarded one Michelin star in 2001 and retained that rating until 2004. Winthaegen closed the restaurant in 2004 and started his new restaurant Het Vervolg on the same location but with another formula. He sold the restaurant shortly after the change.Owner and head chef of the restaurant was Léon Winthaegen. De Boterbloem earned a Bib Gourmand in the year 2000.

Aarveld is a Dutch neighbourhood of Heerlen, in the province of Dutch Limburg. On 1 January 2021, Aarveld had 1,180 inhabitants.

Benzenrade is a Dutch hamlet located in the commune of Heerlen, in the province of Dutch Limburg. Located on the border of the municipality and the city, it is between Ubachsberg (municipality of Voerendaal) and Imstenrade. On its north side, it abuts the neighbourhood of Welten. On the east, separated by the N281, is the neighbourhood of Heerlerbaan.

The Vroom en Dreesmann Building in Heerlen was an office building and former department store designed by Frits Peutz (best known for the Glaspaleis) in 1958 as part of the store chain Vroom & Dreesmann (located in Heerlen since 1920). The interior design was done by Mr. Kober and his daughter Marcia and the builders were E. Joosten and L. Reumkens. The director in Heerlen was Adrianus Merkx. The building was relatively different for Heerlen, although used to modern architecture (Glaspaleis, former office Oranje Nassaumijnen, Monseigneur Schrijnen Retreat House etc.), this building as it looked more like a modern curtain wall skyscraper (10 storeys high). It has two entrances one on the Raadshuisplein and the other one the Geleenstraat, since the Geleenstraat is located lower the entrance there is 10 m under the Raadshuisplein level (which is also the case for the Town Hall, also designed by Peutz).

Situated close to the Heerlen train station, this egg shaped building dates back to 1938 and was one of the oldest cinemas of the Netherlands. It was designed by Frits Peutz (best known for the Glaspaleis) and J. Bongaerts. The buildings behind it are from a later date and include another building by Peutz (Rivoli, 1958). It originally had 1180 seats (some sources say 814, but 1180 is more likely); this amount was later reduced by almost half for more leg room, leaving 743 seats).
