Normandale Park

On February 19, 2022, a mass shooting occurred near Normandale Park, in Portland, Oregon, United States. One person was killed and five others were injured, including the shooter. The shooting took place near a demonstration for Amir Locke, a 22-year-old Black man who was shot and killed by a Minneapolis police officer and Patrick Kimmons, a 27-year-old Black man killed by Portland police during a 2018 altercation.Benjamin Jeffrey Smith was arrested and charged with second-degree murder, four counts of attempted murder, and several assault charges in connection with the shooting. He pleaded guilty to all charges and was sentenced to life in prison.

Rose City Park is a neighborhood (and a park of the same name) in Northeast Portland, Oregon. It borders Beaumont-Wilshire, Grant Park, and the Hollywood District on the west (at NE 47th Avenue), Cully on the north (at NE Fremont Street), Roseway and Madison South on the east (at NE 65th Avenue), and Center on the south (at the Banfield Expressway and MAX transit line). The neighborhood was platted in 1907, the year of the first Portland Rose Festival. Trolley service from Downtown Portland was inaugurated that year by the Portland Railway, Light & Power Co., and discontinued November 30, 1936.In addition to its eponymous park (acquired 1920), other parks in the neighborhood include Normandale Park (1940), Frazer Park (1950, on the site of a former juvenile detention center), and the western part of Rose City Golf Course (1920), whose clubhouse was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2012. A statue of George Washington was commissioned by Henry Waldo Coe and sculpted by Pompeo Coppini, and dedicated on July 4, 1927. It stood at 57th Avenue and Sandy Boulevard, in the center of the neighborhood, until it was toppled and burned by rioters on June 18, 2020, in the aftermath of the murder of George Floyd at the hands of police in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Beginning in March 1946, NABISCO proposed building a large factory on 24 acres (97,000 m2) in the Rose City Park neighborhood, choosing the location for proximity of workers and access to the rail line. The city council approved the zoning change on June 5, 1947, but by June 26, 1947, NABISCO abandoned the project, building a plant at the northern edge of the Piedmont neighborhood on Columbia Boulevard. The plant was completed in August 1950.The NE 60th Ave station on the Blue Line and Red Line of the MAX light rail system is on the boundary (Interstate 84) with the Center neighborhood. In July 2008, Forbes magazine named Rose City Park the ninth most overpriced neighborhood in the country. This was based on a price-to-earnings spread comparing rental costs with buying costs for similar properties, based on number of bedrooms, location and price per square foot. A neighborhood with a high price-to-earnings spread is considered overvalued because a buyer is getting a low return based on costs and paying a huge premium to live in area relative to how much it would cost to rent a similar property there.

Northeast 60th Avenue is a light rail station on the MAX Blue, Green and Red Lines in Portland, Oregon. It is the 12th stop eastbound on the eastside MAX line. It is located on the boundary between the North Tabor and Rose City Park neighborhoods. The station is at the intersection of NE 60th Avenue and Interstate 84, located above a Union Pacific line, but below street level. This station is connected to NE 60th Avenue by a series of stairs and elevators. The single island platform is separated from the westbound lanes of the freeway by only a low wall and the eastbound MAX tracks, causing the platform level of this station to be noisy most hours of the day. The station was located in TriMet fare zone 2 from its opening in 1986 until September 2012, at which time TriMet discontinued all use of zones in its fare structure.

North Tabor Neighborhood in Portland, Oregon, United States, is on the east side of the Willamette River on the northern slope of Mount Tabor. The Banfield Expressway (Interstate 84) forms its northern boundary, separating it from the Hollywood District, Rose City Park, and Madison South neighborhoods to the north. NE/SE 44th Avenue separates it from Laurelhurst to the west while NE 68th Avenue separates it from Montavilla to the east. East Burnside Street forms most of the southern boundary (separating it from the Mount Tabor Neighborhood), except for a section west of SE 49th Avenue for which SE Stark Street forms the boundary with the Sunnyside neighborhood. Providence Portland Medical Center is the neighborhood's largest employer. Government buildings in the neighborhood include the Donald E Long Juvenile Detention Center and the Penumbra Kelly Building, which is used by the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office. The neighborhood has no public school buildings and one private school: the Portland Montessori School, which serves pre-K through 6th grade. The Rosemont Bluff Natural Area is the only public space in the neighborhood. The NE 60th Avenue station on the Blue Line, Red Line and Green Line of the MAX light rail system is on the boundary with the Rose City Park neighborhood. Buses serve the neighborhood on NE Glisan Street, East Burnside Street, and 60th Avenue. A marked bike route travels east-west on NE Davis and NE Everett Streets, and the 50s Bikeway Project extends through North Tabor.

It was founded by Mike De Kalb and his wife Cathy Woo-De Kalb. The brewery has run pubs in Portland International Airport.

Der Rheinlander was a German restaurant in Portland, Oregon's Rose City Park neighborhood, in the United States. It was established by chef Horst Mager, who is originally from Wiesbaden, Germany, in 1963. The restaurant was "under reconsideration for redevelopment" in February 2016, and closed in early 2017.

Providence Portland Medical Center, located at 4805 NE Glisan St. in the North Tabor neighborhood of Portland, Oregon, is a full-service medical center specializing in cancer and cardiac care. Opened in 1941, the hospital is licensed for 483 beds, and has over 3,000 employees. There are approximately 1,000 physicians on staff. The campus is also home to Providence Child Center, a 58-bed facility dedicated exclusively to medically fragile children. Providence Portland Medical Center is part of the Providence Health & Services in Oregon. Providence Portland Medical Center is one of four nursing magnet hospitals in Oregon, the others being Providence St. Vincent Medical Center, Veterans Affairs hospital, and OHSU Hospital in Portland.

A 1926–27 statue of George Washington by Italian American artist Pompeo Coppini was installed in northeast Portland, Oregon, United States. The bronze sculpture was the second of three statues of Washington by the artist, following a similar statue installed in Mexico City in 1912 and preceding another installed on the University of Texas at Austin campus in February 1955. The Portland statue was created to commemorate the 1926 sesquicentennial of the Declaration of Independence and dedicated in 1927. It was part of the City of Portland and Multnomah County Public Art Collection courtesy of the Regional Arts & Culture Council. In June 2020, it was toppled by protestors.

The Fred A., May, and Anne Shogren House is a historic residence in Portland, Oregon, United States. For nearly 30 years, sisters May (1861–1928) and Anne (1868–1934) Shogren were the premier dressmakers and arbiters of women's fashion to the wealthy elite in Portland. They were also successful businesswomen, employing 50 to 100 seamstresses and producing enough surplus to invest in real estate. The sisters lived in this c. 1906 Craftsman house, originally built for their brother Fred, from 1912, through retirement in 1918, and until their deaths. While their shop in downtown Portland is no longer extant, this house serves as the most important remaining site related to their prominent careers. One of their investment properties, The Shogren Building, still exists and is manged by Anne and May's great nephew Andy Munson. The Oregon Historical Society holds their business records and several of their dresses, gowns, and riding habits in its collections.The house was entered on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.
