Tanay, officially the Municipality of Tanay (Tagalog: Bayan ng Tanay IPA: [tɐˈnaɪ]), is a 1st class municipality in the province of Rizal, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 139,420 people.Tanay is located 37 kilometres (23 mi) from Antipolo and 54 kilometres (34 mi) from Manila. It contains portions of the Sierra Madre Mountains and is bordered by Antipolo in the north-west, Baras, Morong and Teresa in the west, General Nakar (Quezon Province) in the east, and Pililla, Santa Maria (Laguna province) as well as the lake Laguna de Bay in the south. It is the epicenter of the Tanay Tagalog dialect, which has the deepest modern Tagalog words in the Tagalog language and is the only endangered Tagalog dialect.

The church was built by the Franciscans in 1583, under the patronage of Saint Mary Magdalene. It is a few kilometers away from San Ildefonso Parish Church, a historical church in Tanay. On January 16, 1977, the National Historical Commission of the Philippines unveiled the historical marker of St. Mary Magdalene Parish Church.On July 22, 2018, the parish church was declared a diocesan shrine.

The Diocesan Shrine and Parish of St. Joseph, also known as Baras Church, is a Roman Catholic church located in Baras, Rizal, Philippines, where the miraculous centuries-old image of San Jose de Baras (Spanish: El Glorioso Patriarca Señor San José de Baras) is enshrined. The church is known to be the oldest parish dedicated to Saint Joseph in the Southern Tagalog Region.

The Morong River (Filipino: Ilog ng Morong), also known as the Morong–Teresa River, is a river system in Rizal, Philippines. It is one of 21 major tributaries of Laguna de Bay. It covers 14 barangays and stretches 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) from Antipolo down to Teresa, Rizal, Morong, Rizal and finally to Laguna de Bay. The Morong River sub-basin has a drainage area of 70.21 square kilometres (27.11 sq mi).On 1991, a study noted that eutrophication in Laguna de Bay could be attributed to nutrients brought to the lake as a result of the tremendous deterioration of the Morong River and the San Pedro River. In the case of the Morong River, this increase was said to be a result of draining effluents from hog farms.A 1994 cleanup drive initiated by the Laguna Lake Development Authority in cooperation with the local communities and local government units of Antipolo, Morong, and Teresa removed some seven truckloads of garbage and cleared a three-kilometre (1.9 mi) portion of the river from water lilies blocking the waterway.

It was built during the Spanish period in the country, with stones from a hill called Kay Ngaya; lime from the stones of the mountain Kay Maputi; and sand and gravel from Morong River.

Tomas Claudio Memorial Elementary School, formerly called Tomas Claudio Memorial School, was constructed in 1921 in honor of Private Tomas Mateo Claudio, the first Filipino hero of Morong, Rizal, in the Philippines, who died during World War I in France. The school is considered the Alma Mater of most Moronguenos.
