Brunswick Square

The Foundling Museum in Brunswick Square, London tells the story of the Foundling Hospital, Britain's first home for children at risk of abandonment. The museum houses the nationally important Foundling Hospital Collection as well as the Gerald Coke Handel Collection, an internationally important collection of material relating to Handel and his contemporaries. After a major building refurbishment the museum was reopened to the public in June 2004. The museum explores the history of the Foundling Hospital, which continues today as the children's charity Coram. Artists such as William Hogarth and the composer George Frideric Handel are central to the Hospital story and today the museum celebrates the ways in which creative people have helped improve children's lives for over 275 years. It is a member of The London Museums of Health & Medicine group.

International Hall is a Hall of Residence owned by the University of London and situated on Brunswick Square and Lansdowne Terrace in the Bloomsbury district of London. It is an intercollegiate hall, and as such provides accommodation for full-time students at institutions such as University College, King's College, Queen Mary, School of Oriental and African Studies, the London School of Economics, and other such constituent colleges of the University of London. It is the largest single hall of the University of London.

Lansdowne Terrace is a street in Bloomsbury, London WC1. It runs south to north from Guilford Street to Brunswick Square, with houses on the west side and Coram's Fields on the east side. Nos 1 to 4 are Grade II listed houses, built in 1794, and designed by James Burton.The main entrance to International Hall, a hall of residence owned by the University of London is at the northern end. Horizon: A Review of Literature and Art, edited by Cyril Connolly, was based there throughout its existence in the 1940s.

The Minerva Club was a residential members club at 28a Brunswick Square in the Bloomsbury district of London. It was established by the Women's Freedom League (WFL) in 1920. The executive meetings of the WFL were held at the club into the 1930s. The club was still used residentially in the late 1940s. The Brunswick Centre now occupies the site, the building having been demolished in 1962. Elizabeth Knight and a Mrs Fisher founded the club. Knight was responsible for the funding of the club and the purchase of the long lease of the club's Brunswick Square premises. The restaurant of the club served vegetarian food. Fellow Brunswick Square resident E.M. Forster would frequently breakfast at the club. The WSL's Minerva Café moved to the club at Brunswick Square with the expiration of their High Holborn lease in the 1950s.Marian Reeves managed the club from 1926. Reeves was politically well connected and often hosted international visitors at the club.In 1926 the reunion meeting of the Suffragette Fellowship was held at the club. Annual birthday parties to raise funds for Charlotte Despard were held at the club with Despard herself travelling from Ireland each year to attend.

Dairy Art Centre was an art gallery in the premises of a former dairy in London founded in 2013 by Frank Cohen and Nicolai Frahm which exhibited work from their personal collections, as well as from other institutions. It was also used a venue to hire for events Dairy Art Centre's inaugural exhibition in early 2013 was called Quicksand by John Armleder.In 2014, Julian Schnabel presented Every Angel has a Dark Side, his first solo exhibition in a public art space in the UK for nearly 15 years. The exhibition was universally panned by local art critics, with the Guardian calling it "colossally bad" and the Telegraph labelling it as "irrefutably awful"The gallery ceased its activities later that year on 7 December 2014

Guilford Street is a road in Bloomsbury in central London, England, designated the B502. From Russell Square it extends east-northeast to Gray's Inn Road. Note that it is not spelt the same way as Guildford in Surrey. It is, in fact, named after Frederick North, Lord North, a former Prime Minister, who was also 2nd Earl of Guilford (sic).The nearest tube station is Russell Square.

The London School of Medicine for Women (LSMW) established in 1874 was the first medical school in Britain to train women as doctors. The patrons, vice-presidents, and members of the committee that supported and helped found the London School of Medicine for Women wanted to provide educated women with the necessary facilities for learning and practicing midwifery and other branches of medicine while also promoting their future employment in the fields of midwifery and other fields of treatment for women and children.

The UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health (ICH) is an academic department of the Faculty of Population Health Sciences of University College London (UCL) and is located in London, United Kingdom. It was founded in 1946 and together with its clinical partner Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH), forms the largest concentration of children's health research in Europe. In 1996 the Institute merged with University College London. Current research focusses on broad biomedical topics within child health, ranging from developmental biology, to genetics, to immunology and epidemiology.

The Foundling Hospital in London, England, was founded in 1739 by the philanthropic sea captain Thomas Coram. It was a children's home established for the "education and maintenance of exposed and deserted young children." The word "hospital" was used in a more general sense than it is in the 21st century, simply indicating the institution's "hospitality" to those less fortunate. Nevertheless, one of the top priorities of the committee at the Foundling Hospital was children's health, as they combated smallpox, fevers, consumption, dysentery and even infections from everyday activities like teething that drove up mortality rates and risked epidemics. With their energies focused on maintaining a disinfected environment, providing simple clothing and fare, the committee paid less attention to and spent less on developing children's education. As a result, financial problems would hound the institution for years to come, despite the growing "fashionableness" of charities like the hospital.
