Piazza Ruggero Settimo

Piazza Castelnuovo is a square of Palermo. Along with the contiguous Piazza Ruggero Settimo, it forms a single urban space, commonly called Piazza Politeama, by virtue of the presence of Teatro Politeama, the second most important theatre of the city after Teatro Massimo. The square is located between Via Ruggero Settimo, Viale della Libertà and Via Dante, near the historic centre of Palermo, and represents one of the most popular city's square. On Piazza Castelnuovo are located a structure called "Palchetto della Musica" (work of Salvatore Valenti), the monument to Carlo Cottone (work of Giovan Battista Palazzotto and Domenico Costantino), the sculptures "Nautica" (work of Mario Rutelli), "Lavoro" (work of Benedetto Civiletti) and "Senzatetto" (work of Pasquale Civiletti). The square is named after Carlo Cottone, prince of Castelnuovo, one of the advocate of the Sicilian Constitution of 1812.

The Politeama Theatre (Italian: Teatro Politeama, complete name Teatro Politeama Garibaldi) is a theatre of Palermo. It is located in the central Piazza Ruggero Settimo and represents the second most important theatre of the city after the Teatro Massimo. It houses the Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana.

The Grand Hotel et des Palmes is a historic hotel in Palermo, Sicily, on the central Via Roma. The building was built on the initiative of the Ingham-Whitaker family in 1874 and used as a private residence. The house was connected by a secret passage to the adjacent Anglican church. Initially, the building consisted of a two-story low body with an exotic winter garden that reached the sea. At the end of the 19th century, the house was sold to the knight Enrico Ragusa, who in 1907 commissioned the transformation of Palazzo Ingham in the Grande Albergo delle Palme to the architect Ernesto Basile. It became a luxury hotel, symbol of the Belle Époque. In November 2018 it was acquired by Algebris for roughly €12 million.Notable people who have resided in the hotel include: Richard Wagner, the composer who in 1881 finished the composition of the Parsifal there; Raymond Roussel, the poet who lived there until his death; Charles Poletti, who for political and then military reasons for the duration of the conflict, turned it into a US headquarters during the Second World War; José Enrique Rodó, Uruguayan writer and essayist, who spent his last days there.

The Teatro Massimo Vittorio Emanuele is an opera house and opera company located on the Piazza Verdi in Palermo, Sicily. It was dedicated to King Victor Emanuel II. It is the biggest in Italy, and one of the largest of Europe (at the time of its inauguration, it was - with its area of 7730 m2 - the third largest opera house in Europe after the Palais Garnier in Paris, and the K. K. Hof-Opernhaus in Vienna), renowned for its perfect acoustics.

The square is located in the heart of the city, near the central Via Maqueda, in the quarter of the Seralcadio, within the historic centre of Palermo. Piazza Verdi was created in 19th century in order to host the new opera house of Palermo.

San Francesco di Paola is a 16th-century Roman Catholic church and monastery, located on Via Carini corner Piazza San Francesco di Paola, in Palermo, region of Sicily, Italy.

The Antonino Salinas Regional Archeological Museum (Italian: Museo Archeologico Regionale Antonino Salinas) is a museum in Palermo, Italy. It possesses one of the richest collections of Punic and Ancient Greek art in Italy, as well as many items related to the history of Sicily. Formerly the property of the Oratory of Saint Philip Neri, the museum is named after Antonino Salinas, a famous archaeologist and numismatist from Palermo who had served as its director from 1873 until his death in 1914, upon which he left it his major private collection. It is part of the Olivella monumental complex, which includes the Church of Sant'Ignazio all'Olivella and the adjoining Oratory.

The Church of Saint Ignatius (Italian: Chiesa di Sant'Ignazio or Sant'Ignazio all'Olivella) is a Baroque church of Palermo. It is located in the ancient neighborhood of the Olivella, in the quarter of the Loggia, within the historic centre of Palermo.

The Oratory of Saint Catherine of Alexandria (Italian: Oratorio di Santa Caterina d'Alessandria) is a Baroque oratory located attached to the church of Sant'Ignazio all'Olivella, in the quarter of the Castellammare of Palermo, region of Sicily, Italy.This oratory was built in 1726 under the patronage of the Confraternity of Santa Caterina, and supposedly set on the site of the former family home of Santa Rosalia. The interior stucco decoration was completed by Giacomo Serpotta and his son Procopio. In the vestibule is a depiction of The Mystical Marriage of St Catherine by Giuseppe Salerno. Flanking the entrance are allegorical statues of Knowledge and Science, two areas of study which the Jesuits wished to stress. Along the wall are small stucco dioramas with episodes of the life of St Catherine. The main altarpiece depicts the Martyrdom of St Catherine (1609) also by Salerno. The church also has a Renaissance painting depicting the Madonna and Child by Vincenzo da Pavia. The stalls for the members of the confraternity are also engraved with episodes of the life of St Catherine. Since 1946, the oratory has hosted the Order of the Holy Sepulcher.

Sant'Eulalia dei Catalani is a deconsecrated church, whose Renaissance facade can still be seen on Via Argenteria #19, at the edge of the lively Vucciria market in ancient quarter of Castellammare in central Palermo, region of Sicily, Italy. In a niche in the small piazza in front of the church is a statue of the Genius of Palermo, sculpted by Pietro di Bonitate in 1483, and now called Palermu lu Grandi.

Villa Filippina is presently an urban public park and host to various cultural events, with one entrance on Via Villa Filippina, facing the park in front of San Francesco di Paola, in Palermo, region of Sicily, Italy.
