Capilano University Exchange

Capilano University (CapU) is a teaching-focused public university based in North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, located on the slopes of the North Shore Mountains, with programming that also serves the Sea-to-Sky Corridor and the Sunshine Coast. The university is named after Chief Joe Capilano Sa7plek (Sahp-luk) who was the leader of the Squamish people (Sḵwx̱wú7mesh) from 1895 to 1910. Capilano University's degree programs are approved by the Government of British Columbia’s Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills and Training. The degree-granting powers of the university are legislated by British Columbia's University Act. In 2012, CapU became Canada's first university to receive accreditation from the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (or NWCCU) in Washington, one of six major regional agencies in the U.S. that are recognized by the United States Department of Education.Capilano University's sports teams, The Blues, have won 15 national titles in the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association, and 61 provincial titles in the Pacific Western Athletic Association.The university was originally founded as Capilano College by school boards and residents of the North Shore and Howe Sound in 1968 based on the need for a public institution serving the local communities immediately northwest of Vancouver. Initial enrollment was 784 students. In 2008, the province changed Capilano College's designation to a university and, as of 2019, it has grown to enroll approximately 12,700 students per year. Capilano University's academic offerings include nationally and internationally recognized liberal arts, professional, and career programs which lead to degrees, diplomas, and certificates.

The District of North Vancouver is a district municipality in British Columbia, Canada, and is part of Metro Vancouver. It surrounds the City of North Vancouver on three sides. As of 2016, the District stands as the second wealthiest city in Canada, with neighbouring West Vancouver the richest. The Dollarton Bridge comprises a pair of two-lane reinforced concrete spans the Seymour River in North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. It replaced a two-lane steel truss bridge built in 1948. It is 153 meters (501 feet) long. The bridge, which is part of the Dollarton Highway, provides 4 lanes of road traffic and two 3 metre wide pedestrian-bicycle sidewalks.

Lynn Canyon Park is a municipal park in the District of North Vancouver, British Columbia. When the park officially opened in 1912 it was only 12 acres (4.9 ha) in size, but it now encompasses 617 acres (250 ha). The park has many hiking trails of varying length and difficulty. The Baden-Powell Trail passes through the park crossing over the Lynn Canyon Suspension Bridge. Due to its natural landscape many TV series such as Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis used the area for filming.

Arc'teryx is a Canadian high-end design company specializing in outdoor apparel and equipment headquartered in North Vancouver, British Columbia. It focuses on technical apparel for mountaineering and Alpine sports, including related accessories. The company's name and logo reference the Archaeopteryx, the transitional fossil of early dinosaurs to modern dinosaurs (birds). Arc'teryx is known for their waterproof Gore-Tex shell jackets, knitwear, and down parkas.Founded in 1989 as Rock Solid, the company re-branded in 1991 as Arc'teryx to produce outerwear and climbing gear for the Coast Mountains in Canada. The company was sold to Salomon Group in 2001 and Amer Sports in 2005. Arc'teryx maintains two divisions: Veilance, their luxury streetwear retailer and LEAF, their retailer of technical gear for law enforcement and military forces. The company is a major influence in the "gorpcore" and "normcore" fashion movements, the wearing of minimalist, outdoor apparel in urban settings.

Phibbs Exchange is a major transit exchange in the District of North Vancouver, British Columbia. Part of the TransLink system, it is home to routes serving North Vancouver and some parts of the city of Vancouver. Opened on October 19, 1973, it is one of the four major transit exchanges on the North Shore (the others being Capilano University Exchange, Lonsdale Quay and Park Royal Exchange). The exchange is named after Charles J.P. Phibbs.

Blueridge Elementary School is a school located in the district municipality of North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The school has 360 students and offers classes in Kindergarten to grade 7. The school offers sports for the senior grades such as basketball and volleyball. Some activities in Blueridge are choir, band, and track and field in intermediate grade (grade 4–7). Blueridge is a single-story building with a gravel field and play structures for the students. Adjacent to Blueridge is a district-owned forest and tennis courts. The students are allowed to use the courts and the forest at recess and lunch. After graduation from Blueridge Elementary School, students move on to Windsor Secondary School.

The Maplewood Flats Conservation Area is a 126 hectare (310 acre) conservation area located in North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The area is composed of a 96 hectare (237 acre) intertidal zone of mudflats and salt marsh, and a 30 hectare (74 acre) upland area. It is preserved by Port Metro Vancouver as one of their ecological land initiatives. The land is located approximately 2 km east of the Second Narrows Bridge along Burrard Inlet in North Vancouver (20 minute drive from Vancouver city centre).

The Seymour River is a river in North Vancouver, British Columbia which is notable for being several degrees warmer than other streams and lakes in the area. This is due to it being fed from a large reservoir backed up behind a dam from which a constant flow of water is released. The upper portion of the river and the reservoir are part of the Seymour watershed, controlled by Metro Vancouver. The Seymour River has been the main water supply for North Vancouver since 1907. The first intake was built in 1907 and the first Seymour Dam was constructed in 1927. The present day Seymour Falls Dam was constructed 1961. Up to 40,000 fed coho fry are released above the dam each year by the Seymour Salmonid Society. The hydrometric data for this river is presented by the Water Survey of Canada.

Brockton School' is an independent, co-educational school located in the Lynn Valley neighbourhood of the district municipality of North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. It comprises both a Junior and a Senior School, with students from Junior Kindergarten to grade 6 and grades 7 to 12 respectively.

North Shore Studios is a film company located in the North Vancouver, British Columbia. Acquired by Bosa Developments in 2006, it was previously part of Lions Gate Entertainment and was then known as Lionsgate Studios. There are 8 stages totaling 132,435 square feet ranging from 11,000 to 20,000 square feet as well as streetscape. There is also 100,000 square feet of office space.
