Wonalancet, New Hampshire

Ferncroft is an unincorporated community lying mostly in the town of Albany in Carroll County, New Hampshire, United States. Some of the roads and houses in Ferncroft stretch into the towns of Sandwich and Waterville Valley. The hamlet is a widely spaced cluster of houses centered on several fields lying along the Wonalancet River on Ferncroft Road. Ferncroft has about 50 seasonal residents and a few full-time residents residing in 11 houses and multiple barns and outbuildings. Ferncroft was named for the Ferncroft Family Inn which once stood in the area. The area became known as Ferncroft to differentiate it from nearby Wonalancet.

The Bradbury Jewell House is a historic house at 154 Ferncroft Road in Sandwich, New Hampshire. Built about 1802 by an early surveyor of the region, it is a well-preserved example of high-quality second-generation frontier architecture. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.

The North Sandwich Meeting House is a historic Quaker meeting house at the northwest junction of Quaker-Whiteface Road and Brown Hill Road in Sandwich, New Hampshire. Built in 1881, it is the best-preserved 19th-century Quaker meeting house in the county. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986, at which time it was the only active Quaker meeting house in Carroll County. The North Sandwich Society of Friends has a silent (unprogrammed) meeting for worship each Sunday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the meeting house.

The Durgin Bridge is a covered bridge carrying Durgin Bridge Road over the Cold River in eastern Sandwich, New Hampshire. Built in 1869, it is a rare surviving example of a Paddleford truss bridge, and one of the few surviving 19th-century covered bridges in New Hampshire. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

Hemenway State Forest is a 2,106-acre (852 ha) state forest in Tamworth, New Hampshire. It includes the Big Pines Natural Area, an area of large white pine trees, including one of New Hampshire's largest, accessible via a parking area and loop trail off Route 113A. The trail also crosses the Swift River with a wooden pedestrian bridge. A spur trail connects to an observation tower atop Great Hill.

The Wonalancet River is a 7.6-mile-long (12.2 km) river in the White Mountains of New Hampshire in the United States. Named after the 17th-century Pennacook sachem Wonalancet, it is a tributary of the southern Swift River, part of the Bearcamp River / Ossipee Lake / Saco River watershed leading to the Atlantic Ocean. The Wonalancet River rises in the heart of the Sandwich Range, in "The Bowl", a forested glacial cirque lying between Mount Whiteface to the west, Mount Passaconaway to the north, and Mount Wonalancet to the east. The river flows south, paralleled by the Dicey Mill Trail, out of the mountains into the communities of Ferncroft, in the southwest corner of the town of Albany, and Wonalancet, in the northwest corner of the town of Tamworth. The river continues east into a forested valley and joins the Swift River 3 miles (5 km) northwest of Tamworth village.

Mount Passaconaway is a 4,043 ft (1,232 m) mountain in the Sandwich Range Wilderness of the White Mountain National Forest in Grafton County, New Hampshire, near Waterville Valley. It is named after Passaconaway, a 16th-century sachem of the Pennacook tribe, whose name was also attached to a small village in Albany, where the northern trailhead is now located. It is ranked 42nd in elevation on the list of 48 White Mountains four-thousand footers. On the original 1931 list of 4000-footers, it was ranked 26th, with an elevation of 4,116 feet (1,255 m), although the 1931 topographic map shows it as 4,060 feet (1,240 m). The 1987 USGS topographic map indicates it is 4,043 feet, while the elevation recorded in the USGS Geographic Names Information System is 4,019 feet (1,225 m). The thickly wooded, unmarked summit may be approached from trailheads to the north (on the Kancamagus Highway) or from Wonalancet to the south. Passaconaway was originally named "North Whiteface" by Arnold Guyot, who probably was the first white person to ascend it. State geologist Charles Henry Hitchcock gave it its present name in honor of Passaconaway, a Pennacook chieftain. Passaconaway's children, Wonalancet and Nanomocomuck, have their names memorialized by the spurs of the mountain.

The Whiteface River is a 5.9-mile-long (9.5 km) river rising in the White Mountains of New Hampshire in the United States. Its waters flow by way of the Cold River, Bearcamp River, Ossipee Lake, the Ossipee River and the Saco River into the Gulf of Maine, an arm of the Atlantic Ocean. The Whiteface River, sharing a name with the 4,020-foot-high (1,230 m) Mount Whiteface, rises on the southern slopes of the Sandwich Range in the town of Waterville Valley. The headwaters collect tributaries from the area between Mt. Whiteface and Flat Mountain, as well as from The Sleepers, some broad peaks extending north towards Mount Tripyramid. Flowing south, the river enters the town of Sandwich and the Whiteface Intervale, a broad, flat valley at the base of the Sandwich Range. In the river's last mile, it leaves the Intervale and drops 200 feet (60 m) to end at the Cold River, just east of the village of Whiteface.

Mount Whiteface is a 4,019 ft (1,225 m) mountain located in Grafton County, New Hampshire. The mountain is part of the Sandwich Range of the White Mountains. Whiteface is flanked to the northwest by Mount Tripyramid, and to the northeast by Mount Passaconaway. Whiteface is on the eastern border of the Sandwich Range Wilderness. To the east, between Whiteface, Passaconaway, and Mt. Wonalancet, lies The Bowl natural area, an unlogged cirque. Mt. Whiteface lies within the watershed of the Saco River, which reaches the Gulf of Maine at Saco, Maine. The south side of Whiteface is drained by the Whiteface River, thence into the Cold River, Bearcamp River, Ossipee River, and the Saco River. The east side is drained by the Wonalancet River, thence into Swift River, and Bearcamp River. The north side is drained by Downes Brook, thence into another Swift River, and the Saco River. The summit of Mt. Whiteface is in a wooded area along the Rollins Trail, approximately .3 miles (0.5 km) north of the top of the massive granite cliff for which the mountain is named. Many hikers reach the open area at the top of the cliff and do not realize the true summit is farther to the north.The summit is popular among winter climbers, favoring the Blueberry Ledge trail for ascent.

The East Branch of the Whiteface River is a 1.9-mile-long (3.1 km) stream in the White Mountains of New Hampshire in the United States. It is a tributary of the Whiteface River, part of the Saco River watershed. The East Branch, never larger than a brook, drains the southwestern slopes of Mount Whiteface, a 4,020-foot-high (1,230 m) summit in the Sandwich Range of the White Mountains. The stream begins within the town limits of Waterville Valley and flows south into Sandwich, where it joins the Whiteface River.

The Cold River is an 11.9-mile-long (19.2 km) river in the White Mountains of New Hampshire in the United States. It is a tributary of the Bearcamp River, part of the Ossipee River and Saco River watersheds. The river lies entirely in the town of Sandwich. The Cold River begins on the southern slopes of Sandwich Mountain, within the Sandwich Wilderness of the White Mountain National Forest. The river flows generally east and then southeast, leaving the national forest, passing New Hampshire Route 113A in the village of Whiteface, and reaching the Bearcamp River close to the Sandwich/Tamworth town line.

North Sandwich is an unincorporated community in the town of Sandwich in Carroll County, New Hampshire. It is located at the junction of New Hampshire Routes 113 and 113A, 3.6 miles (5.8 km) northeast of Center Sandwich. Route 113 continues east into Tamworth, while Route 113A travels north to Wonalancet. North Sandwich has a separate ZIP code (03259) from other areas in the town of Sandwich.
