St Denis Church, East Hatley

Buff Wood is a 15.8-hectare (39-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Hatley in Cambridgeshire. It is managed by the Wildlife Trust for Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire.This site is ecologically diverse boulder clay woodland, with a range of wildflowers, including oxlips and the uncommon green hellebore. There are butterflies such as brimstones, large whites, orange-tips and speckled woods.A permit from the Wildlife Trust is required for access.

Hatley is a civil parish in South Cambridgeshire, England. It lies between the villages of Gamlingay and Croydon, 12 miles south-west of the city of Cambridge and eight miles south-east of the town of St Neots. In 2001, the population of Hatley parish was 205 people living in 77 households, reducing at the 2011 Census to a population of 181 in 78 households.

It is a Nature Conservation Review site, Grade 1, and it is managed by the Wildlife Trust for Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire. It was the subject of a book by the academic and woodland expert Oliver Rackham, listed below, who regularly visited and recorded his observations of the woodland in his notebooks.

Clopton is a deserted medieval village (DMV), about 1 mile (1.6 km) south west of the village of Croydon, Cambridgeshire, that once stood on a prominent ridge from which it gained its name. Its history reaches back to the Roman occupation, and an Anglo-Saxon village, covering approximately 30 acres (12 ha) was established by the 10th century. The village is referenced in the Domesday Book, when 18 peasants were noted as inhabiting it. A Friday market was granted in 1292 to Robert Hoo, Lord of Clopton. The place-name 'Clopton' is first attested circa 1080 in the Inquisitio Comitatus Cantabrigiensis, where it appears as Cloptona. It appears as Cloptune in the Domesday Book of 1086. The name means 'town or settlement on a hill'.It is believed that the village was deserted in the early 16th Century between 1500 and 1518 after John Fisher, a London lawyer, had purchased the land from the Clopton family in 1489. He then evicted the villagers to create enclosures. Archaeologists have located the site for the parish church of Saint Mary, two moated sites, and a probable mill. The church is recorded in poor repair by 1561, which is when it appears that Clopton became amalgamated with neighbouring Croydon to its east. The church was subsequently demolished and turned over to agriculture by 1660.The site is now a Scheduled Ancient Monument and consists of earthworks.

Cockayne Hatley is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Wrestlingworth and Cockayne Hatley, in the Central Bedfordshire district of the ceremonial county of Bedfordshire, England, 13 miles (21 km) east of the county town of Bedford. Little Gransden Airfield (ICAO: EGMJ) is an unlicensed airfield located near the village of Little Gransden, 5 NM (9.3 km; 5.8 mi) southeast of St Neots, Cambridgeshire, England. Little Gransden Airfield is located in the grounds of Fuller's Hill Farm. It is also the home of Yak UK Ltd., who import, service and sell the Yakovlev range of piston engined aerobatic aircraft.

Croydon is a small village and civil parish in South Cambridgeshire, England. It is 10 miles (16 km) south-west of Cambridge and immediately west of the A1198 road (the Roman Ermine Street). The population in 2001 was 221 people, increasing to 235 at the 2011 Census. The site of the deserted medieval village of Clopton is in Croydon parish, which was formerly known as Croydon-cum-Clopton.

Gransden Lodge Airfield is a former wartime airfield located 10.1 mi (16.3 km) west of Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England. The Cambridge University Gliding Club (now Cambridge Gliding Centre) moved to Gransden Lodge in October 1991, having previously shared Duxford Airfield with the Imperial War Museum Duxford.

Little Gransden is a civil parish and village in South Cambridgeshire, England. In 2001 the population was 262 people, including Waresley and increasing to 296 at the 2011 Census. It is 11 miles (18 km) from Cambridge, on the border with the district of Huntingdonshire. Little Gransden has two airfields, one of which was used in World War II.

The Chequers is a pub in Little Gransden, Cambridgeshire. It has served the village since around 1764, and although Little Gransden had four pubs at one stage, it is now the only pub remaining. Over the years it has been owned by breweries including Phillips, Green's and Whitbread, before being bought by the family of the present landlord in 1970.It has three small rooms, and the interior has remained essentially unchanged for over 40 years. It is on the Regional Inventory of Historic Pub Interiors for East Anglia. The pub is home to the Son of Sid brewery which was founded there in November 2007.
