It includes a mix of residential, commercial, and light industrial buildings built between about 1900 and 1950. Residential buildings are in a mix of popular architectural styles including Queen Anne, Bungalow / American Craftsman, and Minimal Traditional.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2008.

Sunnyside–Central Terrace Historic District is a national historic district located at Winston-Salem, Forsyth County, North Carolina. The district encompasses 425 contributing buildings in a predominantly residential section of Winston-Salem. The buildings date from about 1892 to 1958, and include notable examples of Colonial Revival, Late Victorian, and Bungalow / American Craftsman style architecture. Notable buildings include the Arista Mills (1950), Farmers Cooperative Exchange (c. 1945), Southern Steel Stampings (c. 1945), E. T. Baity Oil Co. (c. 1940), Central Terrace Methodist Church (1925, 1957), and Pine Chapel Moravian Church (1928).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2008.

Cicero Francis Lowe House is a historic home located at Winston-Salem, Forsyth County, North Carolina. It was designed by architect Willard C. Northup and built in 1911. It is a two-story, Colonial Revival style frame dwelling. It features high chimneys with decorative caps, a high hipped roof, and a classical entrance with projecting semi-circular porch and Ionic order columns.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.

Washington Park Historic District, also known as the Southside Neighborhood, is a national historic district located at Winston-Salem, Forsyth County, North Carolina. The district encompasses 348 contributing buildings, 1 contributing site (Washington Park), and 2 contributing structures, in a predominantly residential section of Winston-Salem. It was a planned speculative development centered on a streetcar line. The buildings date from about 1892 to 1940, and include notable examples of Colonial Revival, Queen Anne, and Bungalow / American Craftsman style architecture. Notable buildings include the Schlatter Memorial Reformed Church (1916).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992.

St. Philips Moravian Church is the oldest surviving African American church building in North Carolina. The Moravian church was built in 1861 on the east side of South Church Street, near Race Street, in Old Salem, North Carolina. St. Philips was enlarged in 1890 and remained in continuous use until 1952. In 2004 it was restored by Old Salem Museums & Gardens for use as an interpreted building. Currently only worship services are held at the church weekly.

Salem Tavern is a historic museum property at 800 South Main Street in Old Salem, Forsyth County, North Carolina. It was a tavern in the 18th-century town of Salem, which is now part of Winston-Salem. The tavern is owned by Old Salem Museums & Gardens and open as an Old Salem tour building to visitors. Built in 1784 and enlarged in 1815, it was the first entirely brick building in what is now Old Salem, and is one of the oldest surviving brick tavern buildings in the United States. It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1964.

Salem Academy is a boarding and day school for high school girls in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. It shares its campus with Salem College, located near historic Old Salem. It is the oldest private school in North Carolina, and the fourth-oldest boarding school in the United States.

Salem College is a private women's liberal arts college in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Founded in 1772 as a primary school, it later became an academy (high school) and ultimately added the college. It is the oldest female educational establishment that is still a women's college and the oldest women's college in the Southern United States.Though Salem is regarded as a women's college, men 23 years of age and over are admitted into the continuing education program through the Martha H. Fleer Center for Adult Education and into graduate-degree programs. Salem College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.

Salem Square is a grass-covered public square in Old Salem, North Carolina, United States. It dates to the time of the settlement's founding, in 1766, by the Moravian community. It was designed by Friedrich von Marschall.The square is bounded on the north by East Academy Street, on the east by South Church Street, on the south by West Street and on the west by South Main Street. Salem College and the Single Sisters' House overlook it from South Church Street, while the Market-Fire House, a National Historic Landmark, stands on its western edge. It was built after Dr. Samuel Benjamin Vierling began encouraged Salem residents to eat more fresh meat, instead of the salted version. Fresh meat began to be delivered to the Market-Fire House on a weekly basis.On the square's southwestern corner stands a reconstruction of one of the water pumps that served the town from 1778.Several events take place in the square each year, including a long-running band concert series in the summer.

Old Salem is a historic district of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, United States, which was originally settled by the Moravian community in 1766. It features a living-history museum which interprets the restored Moravian community. The non-profit organization began its work in 1950, although some private residents had restored buildings earlier. As the Old Salem Historic District, it was declared a National Historic Landmark (NHL) in 1966, and expanded fifty years later. The district showcases the culture of the Moravian settlement in the Province of North Carolina during the colonial 18th century and post-statehood 19th century via its communal buildings, churches, houses and shops.Two buildings are individually designated as NHLs: the Salem Tavern and the Single Brothers' House. Additional buildings and properties have been added to the National Register to expand the historic area (see St. Philips Moravian Church below, Single Brothers Industrial Complex Site and West Salem Historic District). Ownership of the buildings and land is divided among Old Salem, Inc., Wachovia Historical Society, private owners, Salem College, Salem Academy and Salem Congregation (the successor to the Salem Congregational Council, to whom all ownership of Church properties was transferred).

The Single Brothers' House was built to house the Single Brethren (the unmarried men) of the Moravian Congregation of Old Salem, North Carolina. It is part of Old Salem Museums & Gardens and open as an Old Salem tour building to visitors. It is located at 600 South Main Street, at Academy Street, on the southwest corner.

Home Moravian Church is a Moravian church located in Old Salem, North Carolina. The church was founded on November 13, 1771, in what was then the Province of North Carolina. Its burial ground, God's Acre Cemetery, is located around 100 yards (91 m) to the north. The church is visited by tourists and historians. It conducts weekly services.
