Vaile Mansion

The Owens-Rogers Museum was the home of Hollywood screenwriter and producer Lela Rogers and is the birthplace and childhood home of the American actress, dancer, and singer, Ginger Rogers. The home was a tourist attraction and museum and is located in Independence, Missouri, United States, at 100 West Moore Street. This small craftsman style bungalow was built between 1906 and 1910 by Oscar Mindrup, a local real estate investor, banker, and city councilman. This site is the birthplace of Hollywood film actress/dancer Ginger Rogers. Virginia Katherine McMath (Ginger) was born on July 16, 1911, to Lela Owens McMath, who was estranged from her husband. The house is no longer under the control of the museum, which had to close in May 2020. The owners have plans to create a digital online version of the museum in 2020.

The Harry S. Truman Presidential Library and Museum is the presidential library and resting place of Harry S. Truman, the 33rd president of the United States (1945–1953), his wife Bess and daughter Margaret, and is located on U.S. Highway 24 in Independence, Missouri. It was the first presidential library to be created under the provisions of the 1955 Presidential Libraries Act, and is one of thirteen presidential libraries administered by the National Archives and Records Administration.

William Chrisman High School is a high school located in Independence, Missouri, United States, as part of the Independence School District.

St. Mary's Bundschu Memorial High School was a private, Roman Catholic high school in Independence, Missouri. It was located in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Kansas City-Saint Joseph. Due to declining enrollment, the diocese announced the school would close at the end of the 2012–13 school year.The team mascot of the school was the Trojan and the school colors were white and royal blue.

The Harry S. Truman Historic District is a National Historic Landmark District encompassing sites closely associated with US President Harry S. Truman in Independence, Missouri. It includes the Truman Home at 219 North Delaware, Truman's home for much of his adult life and now a centerpiece of the Harry S. Truman National Historic Site, and the Truman Presidential Library. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971, and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1974. When first listed, the district included only the two buildings and a corridor joining them. It was substantially enlarged in 2011 to include more sites and the environment in which Truman operated while living in Independence.

Trinity Episcopal Church is a historic church at 409 North Liberty Street in Independence, Missouri. It was built in 1881 in a Late Victorian style. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. Future US President Harry S Truman married Bess Wallace at Trinity Episcopal on June 28, 1919. The church was also the site of the 1956 wedding of their daughter, Margaret.

The Battle of Mount Elba was a minor skirmish of the American Civil War, occurring on March 30, 1864 in Mount Elba, Arkansas. It was part of U.S. General Steele's Camden Expedition. As a supporting effort to the Camden Expedition, to help fix Confederate forces at Monticello, Arkansas, and prevent them from opposing Steel's march to Camden, Arkansas, Col. Powell Clayton conducted a raid on Longview, Arkansas, a port on the Saline, southwest of Monticello. Clayton's cavalry force crossed the Saline at Mount Elba, after sweeping aside a small guard force. Clayton divided his forces and sent part to establish a blocking position to the west near Marks Mill. One hundred picked men under Lieutenants Greathouse and Young were then dispatched to destroy the Confederate pontoon bridge at Longview. On March 29, the lieutenants surprised and captured approximately 250 soldiers belonging to Brig. Gen. Thomas P. Dockery's brigade at Longview. Confederate forces in the area were now alerted to the presence of Clayton's raiders and attempted to cut off Clayton's command by attacking their bridgehead at Mount Elba on March 30, 1864. Clayton was successful in re-crossing the Saline, defeating Confederate forces at the Battle of Mount Elba and returned to Pine Bluff, Arkansas, with over 260 prisoners. The Union's casualties throughout the expeditions were only two dead and eight missing.The first Union action of the Union expedition was a complete success, but the rest of the expedition would not go as planned.

The First Battle of Independence was a minor engagement of the American Civil War, occurring on August 11, 1862, in the city of Independence, located in Jackson County, Missouri. Its result was a Confederate victory, continuing the Southern domination of the Jackson County area for a few days while the recruiters completed their work. This battle should not be confused with the Second Battle of Independence, which was fought in 1864. That battle resulted in a Union victory.

Center Place Restoration School is a private K-12 in Independence, Missouri, in the Kansas City metropolitan area. Opened in 1991, the school is associated with the Restoration Branches movement formed in the 1980s by members of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (RLDS, now the Community of Christ).

The Jackson County Jail and Marshal's House in Independence, Missouri, United States was constructed in 1859 as a county jail for Jackson County, Missouri. It was decommissioned and replaced in 1933. It has been restored as a public museum. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1970.

Truman Road, Truman, or 15th Street is a major east/west road in Jackson County, Missouri. It serves Kansas City, Missouri, Independence, and eastern unincorporated Jackson County. Its western terminus is at Broadway Boulevard and I-670 in downtown Kansas City, and its eastern terminus is at the Jackson/Lafayette County line when concurrent with Route FF, north of Oak Grove. It is named after Harry S. Truman, the 33rd U.S. President, and runs through his hometown of Independence. Leaving Kansas City to the east, Truman Road follows Route 12 from Interstate 435, which was originally called Blue Avenue, after the Blue River and Blue Summit unincorporated community which it passed, then to an intersection with Spring Street on the Independence Square, .. Along this stretch is Van Horn High School, the Maywood Business District, and The Truman home. Truman Road east of Route 291 in Independence was originally called Spring Branch Road, after the nearby creek. Out here is an intersection with Route 78/Lake City-Buckner Road, as well as a bridge crossing over the Little Blue River. With the proposed extensions of Jackson Drive and the Little Blue Parkway north of 39th Street as well as future development, this stretch of Truman Road is due for upgrades, such as converting from two lanes to four. 15th Street, Blue Avenue, and Spring Branch Road were later renamed "Van Horn Road" for Robert T. Van Horn, in his honor, who purchased the newspaper The Enterprise in 1856 and renamed it The Kansas City Journal, was a member of the board of aldermen in 1857; postmaster of Kansas City 1857–1861; elected Kansas City mayor for three terms in 1861, 1863, and 1864. The Truman Road corridor is served by two principal tax exempt entities and is serviced by the City of Kansas City, MO, with other sub-organizational entities in sections along the corridor. The Truman Road Community Improvement District (CID) is a 501(c)(4) non-profit dedicated to investing in community infrastructure and improvements along the corridor as a sub-governmental entity largely tasked with common areas in and/or surrounding East Truman Road. The East Truman Road corridor as a whole is a major thoroughfare on the Eastern side of Downtown Kansas City, Missouri.

The Harry S. Truman Office and Courtroom was the office used by Harry S. Truman during his early political years. It is located in the Jackson County Courthouse in Independence, Missouri.
