Great Bay (New Hampshire)

The Richman Margeson Estate was a historic summer estate in Newington, New Hampshire. Formerly located in the Great Bay National Wildlife Refuge but not open to the public, the house was demolished in 2016. The main house, built in 1894, was a rare example of a Colonial Revival estate house in the state and was the only summer estate house of its scale to survive in Newington into the 21st century. The estate was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.

Great Bay National Wildlife Refuge was established in 1992 and is located along the eastern shore of New Hampshire's Great Bay in the town of Newington. The area was formerly part of a weapons storage area at Pease Air Force Base, which was closed in 1991. A variety of rich wildlife habitats from uplands to open waters can be found throughout the refuge. Both Great Bay National Wildlife Refuge, and the Karner Blue butterfly easement in Concord, New Hampshire, which protects important habitat for this federally endangered species, are managed by the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge in Newburyport, Massachusetts. The refuge has a surface area of 1,116 acres (4.52 km2).

The Great Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve encompasses a diversity of land and water areas around Great Bay, an estuary in southeastern New Hampshire. Protected lands cover 10,235 acres (4,142 ha), including approximately 7,300 acres (3,000 ha) of open water and wetlands that include salt marshes, rocky shores, bluffs, woodlands, open fields, and riverine systems and tidal waters. Great Bay has a rich cultural history and was the first major commercial waterway developed by the early settlers. The National Estuarine Research Reserve System (NERRS) is a nationwide network of state-owned and -managed coastal protected areas. These are designated and supported by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) under the United States Department of Commerce. The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department under the Marine Fisheries Division manages the Great Bay NERR. Designated in 1989, the reserve's primary purpose is to promote the wise use and management of the Great Bay estuary.

The Winnicut River is a 9.1-mile-long (14.6 km) river in the Seacoast region of New Hampshire in the United States. A small river, it is nonetheless the major southeastern tributary of Great Bay, an estuary connected by way of the tidal Piscataqua River to the Atlantic Ocean. The Winnicut River rises at the northern outlet of Line Swamp in the town of North Hampton, New Hampshire, just west of Interstate 95. The river flows north through gently rolling fields and scattered suburban development, eventually entering the town of Greenland. It passes under New Hampshire Route 33 and becomes a tidal river for its remaining mile to Great Bay.

The Squamscott River is a 6-mile-long (10 km) tidal river in southeastern New Hampshire, in the United States, fed by the Exeter River. The first 33 miles (53 km) of freshwater river from Chester to downtown Exeter is known as the Exeter River, and the subsequent 9 miles (14 km) of saltwater from downtown Exeter to the Great Bay tidal estuary is known as the Squamscott River.The combined Exeter-Squamscott watershed is 81,726 acres (127.697 sq mi) and contains 68,245 people. It includes portions of Chester, Raymond, Fremont, Danville, Kingston, East Kingston, Sandown, Kensington, Brentwood, Exeter, Newfields, and Stratham.

The Lamprey River is a 50.2-mile-long (80.8 km) river in southeastern New Hampshire, the United States. It rises in Meadow Lake in Northwood, and flows south, then generally east through Raymond, Epping, Lee, Durham and finally Newmarket. Here, it meets Great Bay, a tidal inlet of the Atlantic Ocean, to which it is connected by a tidal estuary, the Piscataqua River. The river from the Bunker Pond Dam in Epping to the confluence with the Piscassic River is part of the designated National Wild and Scenic River System.

The Cornet Thomas Wiggin House is a historic house at 249 Portsmouth Avenue (New Hampshire Route 33) in Stratham, New Hampshire. Probably built in the 1770s, it is a remarkably little-altered example of vernacular Federal period architecture. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

The Weeks House, also known as the Old Brick House, is a historic house museum on Weeks Avenue in Greenland, New Hampshire. Built about 1710, it is one of the oldest brick buildings in New England. It was built by an early colonial member of New Hampshire's politically prominent Weeks family, and is now maintained by a family association. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.

The John Crockett House, also known as Kenniston's Tavern, is a historic house at 245 Portsmouth Road (New Hampshire Route 33) in Stratham, New Hampshire in the United States. Built about 1760, it is a well-preserved example of Georgian residential architecture. It was operated for a time as a tavern serving travelers on the main road between Portsmouth and Exeter. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

WERZ (107.1 FM) is a radio station licensed to Exeter, New Hampshire. The station is owned by iHeartMedia. WERZ broadcasts from studios located on Lafayette Road in Portsmouth and from a transmitter located on Long Hill in Stratham. Its on-air call sign is "Z107, Exeter/Portsmouth". WERZ's signal serves the coastal area from Salem Harbor up north to Biddeford, Maine, including the Portsmouth and Dover-Rochester areas of New Hampshire, southern York County, Maine, and northeastern Massachusetts, where it overlaps with sister station WXKS-FM from Boston.

Portsmouth International Airport at Pease (IATA: PSM, ICAO: KPSM, FAA LID: PSM), formerly known as Pease International Airport, is a joint civil and military use airport located one nautical mile (2 km) west of the central business district of Portsmouth, a city in Rockingham County, New Hampshire, United States. It is owned by the Pease Development Authority. It is included in the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2017–2021, in which it is categorized as a non-hub primary commercial service facility.The airport is located within the Pease International Tradeport, a result of the ongoing redevelopment of the former Pease Air Force Base which was closed under Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) Commission action in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Pease Air National Guard Base is a New Hampshire Air National Guard base located at Portsmouth International Airport at Pease in New Hampshire. It occupies a portion of what was once Pease Air Force Base, a former Strategic Air Command facility with a base-related population of 10,000 and which was home to the 509th Bomb Wing (509 BW) flying the General Dynamics FB-111A. Pease AFB was closed pursuant to 1991 Base Realignment and Closure Commission action, with the 509 BW transferring to Whiteman AFB, Missouri. In 1983, investigations had shown soil and water contamination with degreasers and JP-4 jet fuel, and in 1990 the base was put on the National Priorities List of superfund sites. As of 2015, after 25 years of the Pease Development Authority's work, Pease International Tradeport has 275 businesses employing close to 10,000 civilian workers. Pease continues to be home to the New Hampshire Air National Guard's 157th Air Refueling Wing (157 ARW), an Air Mobility Command gained Air National Guard unit, and since 2009 the 64th Air Refueling Squadron, an active duty United States Air Force "associate" unit to the 157th. The 157 ARW was a former tenant activity at Pease AFB and remained at the installation following the BRAC-directed closure of its regular Air Force activities. As of 2011, the base population is 380 full-time military personnel, with a monthly surge of up to 950 when part-time military personnel are included.
