St Helen's Church is a Grade I listed parish church in the Church of England in Burton Joyce, Nottinghamshire, England.

The United Reformed Church (formerly known as the village's Congregationalist Church) is a now redundant Christian church that operated under the United Reformed denomination in the small Nottinghamshire village of Burton Joyce. It was founded by a generous endowment made by local yarn and cotton tradesman Samuel Milne in 1896, and closed as a formal place of worship in 2015.

Burton Joyce is a large village and civil parish in the Gedling district of Nottinghamshire, England, 7 miles (11 km) east of Nottingham, between Stoke Bardolph to the south and Bulcote to the north-east. The A612 links it to Carlton and Netherfield to the south-west and Lowdham to the north-east. Initially the site of an Iron age fort, it was occupied by Norman nobility, who founded St Helen's Church. From being a farming community, Burton Joyce grew in the early Industrial Revolution, earning repute up to the 1920s for its textile products. Many of today's 3,443 inhabitants commute to work or school in Nottingham. It forms with Stoke Bardoph and Bulcote the Trent Valley ward of Gedling, with two councillors.

Gedling Town Football Club was a semi-professional football club based in Stoke Bardolph, Nottinghamshire, England. Founded in 1985 as R & R Scaffolding, the works team of a construction firm from Netherfield, Gedling played its first four seasons in the Notts Amateur League until the 1990–91 campaign saw the club join the nationwide league system. At the time of its dissolution in 2011 due to insolvency, Gedling competed in the East Midlands Counties Football League (EMCFL) Premier Division at the tenth tier of the English football pyramid. Gedling played its home matches at the Riverside Stadium from at least 1990. Before transferring to the EMCFL in 2008–09, the club competed in the Northern Counties East Football League (NCEL) Division One and three Central Midlands Football League (CML) divisions before that. At its height, Gedling played at the ninth tier between 2000–01 and 2003–04. National tournament records included reaching the third qualifying round of the FA Cup in 2003–04 and the fourth round of the FA Vase in 2003–04, 2004–05, and 2005–06. The team were nicknamed "The Ferrymen" and their colours were primarily yellow and blue.

Stoke Bardolph is a village and civil parish in the Gedling district of Nottinghamshire. The population of the civil parish taken at the 2011 census was 170. It is to the east of Nottingham, and on the west bank of the River Trent. Nearby places include Burton Joyce and Radcliffe on Trent. Because it has a small number of electors, the parish could be governed by a parish meeting, but is one of 151 places in Nottinghamshire to have a parish council.Severn Trent Water's Stoke Bardolph Sewage treatment Works are nearby. Severn Trent own most farmland in the area, using sludge from the Sewage treatment works as fertiliser. The Rivendell Housing development began in 2018 and the first residents of this moved in March 2019. This development has now been confirmed as Stoke Bardolph, Burton Joyce.

Gedling is a constituency in Nottinghamshire created in 1983 represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2019 by Tom Randall of the Conservative Party. The seat (and its predecessor, Carlton) was a safely Conservative until the Labour Party's landslide victory in 1997, when it was won for Labour by Vernon Coaker. Labour held Gedling until 2019, when it was regained by the Conservative Party.

Carlton Town Football Club is a football club based in Gedling, Nottinghamshire, England. Founded in 1904 as Sneinton Football Club, its early years were marked by considerable local success, leading to the club being described by the Manchester Courier in 1909 as "the leading amateur football club in Nottingham". Its reputation declined for several decades afterwards, with the team participating in obscure Nottinghamshire divisions until the 1995–96 season saw the club join the nationwide league system. Carlton currently competes in the Northern Premier League Division One Midlands at the eighth tier of the English football pyramid. Carlton have played their home games at the Bill Stokeld Stadium since the early 1990s. It most recently won promotion in 2006–07 from the Premier Division of the Northern Counties East Football League, competing in the NCEL's Division One and two Central Midlands League divisions before that. Tournament records include reaching the third round of the FA Amateur Cup in 1907–08, 1910–11, 1919–20 and 1930–31; the third qualifying round of the FA Cup in 2012–13 and 2013–14; the first round of the FA Trophy in 2021–22; and the third round of the FA Vase in 2005–06. The club is nicknamed "The Millers" and its colours are primarily yellow and blue.

Bulcote is a village and civil parish in the Newark and Sherwood district of Nottinghamshire, England. According to the 2001 census it had a population of 330, reducing to 309 at the 2011 Census. The village is on the fringe of the Greater Nottingham area, and is about 7 miles north-east of Nottingham city centre. Nearby places are Burton Joyce (to the southwest) and Lowdham (to the northeast).

Shelford is a village and civil parish in the Rushcliffe borough of Nottinghamshire. The population of the former civil parish of Shelford and Newton at the 2011 census was 673. It is near Radcliffe on Trent. It has an old manor house (built on the site of Shelford Priory), a church and a caravan park and bar. It also has a pub restaurant, The Earl of Chesterfield Arms. Several small farms operate in the village, engaging in arable and livestock farming, with much of the harvesting being contracted out to outside companies.
