John R. Wooden High School is a public continuation high school in the Reseda neighborhood of the San Fernando Valley, Los Angeles, California, within the Los Angeles Unified School District.

The 1994 Northridge earthquake was a moment magnitude 6.7 (Mw), blind thrust earthquake that occurred on January 17, 1994, at 4:30:55 a.m. PST in the San Fernando Valley region of the City of Los Angeles. The quake had a duration of approximately 10–20 seconds, and its peak ground acceleration of 1.82 g was the highest ever instrumentally recorded in an urban area in North America. Shaking was felt as far away as San Diego, Turlock, Las Vegas, Richfield, and Ensenada. The peak ground velocity at the Rinaldi Receiving Station was 183 cm/s (4.1 mph; 6.6 km/h), the fastest ever recorded.Two 6.0 Mw  aftershocks followed, the first about one minute after the initial event and the second approximately 11 hours later, the strongest of several thousand aftershocks in all. The death toll was 57, with more than 9,000 injured. In addition, property damage was estimated to be $13–50 billion (equivalent to $24–93 billion in 2021), making it one of the costliest natural disasters in U.S. history.

Northridge station is a Metrolink passenger train station in the community of Northridge of the northern San Fernando Valley, in Los Angeles. Metrolink's Ventura County Line trains from Union Station to Ventura–East stop here. Northridge station is served by 20 Metrolink Ventura County Line trains (ten in each direction) each weekday, running primarily at peak hours in the peak direction of travel. On weekends, four Metrolink Ventura County Line trains (two in each direction) serve the station. Metrolink passengers also have access to four Pacific Surfliner trains (two in each direction) each day through a codesharing arrangement with Amtrak.The station has 290 parking spaces, 8 handicapped spaces, and 2 parking spaces which have electric vehicle charging stations. A temporary platform opened at the station on February 14, 1994, as part of the emergency expansion of service on the Ventura County Line in response to the 1994 Northridge earthquake. The permanent station opened on July 10, 2000.The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) has plans to relocate the station to Reseda Boulevard to improve its local connectivity.

Northridge is a neighborhood in the San Fernando Valley region of the City of Los Angeles. The community is home to California State University, Northridge, and the Northridge Fashion Center. Originally named Zelzah by settlers in 1908, the community was renamed North Los Angeles in 1929 but the appellation sometimes caused confusion between North Hollywood and Los Angeles. In 1938, civic leader Carl S. Dentzel decided to rename the community to Northridge Village, which morphed into modern-day Northridge.The Northridge area can trace its history back to the Tongva people and later to Spanish explorers. It was sold by the Mexican governor Pío Pico to Eulogio de Celis, whose heirs divided it for resale.

California's 30th congressional district is a congressional district in the U.S. state of California, in the western San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles County and the eastern Simi Hills of Ventura County. The district is currently represented by Democrat Brad Sherman, who won the November 2012 Election for the seat.

Reseda is a neighborhood in the San Fernando Valley region of Los Angeles, California. It was founded in 1912, and its central business district started developing in 1915. The neighborhood was devoted to agriculture for many years. Earthquakes struck the area in 1971 and 1994. The neighborhood has 15 public and five private schools. The community includes public parks, a senior center and a regional branch library.

Reseda Country Club was a nightclub and multi-purpose venue located on Sherman Way in Reseda, California. The building started off as a Sav-On drug store in the 1950s and later became a music venue in 1980 when Chuck Landis purchased the site. It originally featured country music acts, hence its name. The club was managed by concert promoter Jim Rissmiller from 1981 to 1984. Rissmiller was able to book premier shows of all types, including acts such as B.B. King, Iggy Pop, James Brown, R.E.M., and U2. Other acts that performed at the Country Club were heavy metal bands such as Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, Sepultura, Anthrax, Testament, W.A.S.P., Armored Saint, Fates Warning, Dark Angel, Sanctuary, Savatage, Bitch, Alcatrazz, Abattoir, and Malice, as well as punk rock bands like D.R.I., Bad Religion, the Circle Jerks, Social Distortion, T.S.O.L., the Cro-Mags, 7 Seconds, and Bad Brains. Prince held an afterparty concert at the venue following the 1987 MTV Video Music Awards.Boxing cards were promoted at the venue from 1983 to 1998. Cards promoted by Dan Goossen most notably featured future champions Michael Nunn, Shane Mosley, Terry Norris, Wayne McCullough, and brothers Gabriel Ruelas and Rafael Ruelas. Universal Wrestling Federation (UWF) ran tapings of its weekly television series Fury Hour at the venue in 1990. Xtreme Pro Wrestling (XPW) ran professional wrestling events at the venue in 1999. The 1997 film Boogie Nights was shot at the venue, which appeared as the fictional club Hot Traxx.The venue closed in 2000 and was replaced by the Spanish-language Christian church Restauración Reseda.

Northridge Fashion Center is a large shopping mall located in Northridge, Los Angeles, California. It opened in 1971. It was severely damaged during the Northridge earthquake in 1994, but renovated extensively in 1995, 1998, and 2003. The mall features J. C. Penney, Macy's, and Macy's Furniture Gallery, Dick's Sporting Goods, in addition to an AMC Theatres.

St. Catherine of Siena is a Catholic church and elementary school (kindergarten through eighth grade) located on Sherman Way in Reseda, California, in the city of Los Angeles. The parish, which is now more than 50 percent Latino, has a membership of more than 1,300 families.

Aliso Creek (also Aliso Canyon Wash or Aliso Wash) is a major tributary of the Upper Los Angeles River in the Santa Susana Mountains in Los Angeles County and western San Fernando Valley in the City of Los Angeles, California. It has a watershed of 21 square miles (54 km2). It is the second major tributary, after Browns Canyon Wash−Creek, to enter the Los Angeles River downstream of its headwaters at the confluence of Bell Creek and Arroyo Calabasas in Canoga Park.
