Pine Knob is a hill located in Independence Township in Oakland County, near Clarkston, Michigan. The hill is classified as a summit. It extends from Waldon Road to the south to Clarkston Road to the north, and from Sashabaw Road to the west to Pine Knob Road to the east. With an elevation of 1,201 feet, Pine Knob is the second-highest hill in Southeast Michigan The highest is Alpine Valley Ski Area in White Lake, Michigan. It is home to Pine Knob Ski Resort, Pine Knob Music Theater, Pine Knob Mansion, Pine Knob Golf Club, as well as residential homes.

Pine Knob Music Theatre (formerly DTE Energy Music Theatre) is an outdoor amphitheater located in Independence Township, Michigan, approximately 40 miles (64 km) northwest of Detroit (it has a Clarkston, Michigan mailing address). Built by the Nederlander Organization in the early 1970s, it is known as "Pine Knob Music Theatre" due to its proximity to the nearby Pine Knob ski area and golf course. Palace Sports & Entertainment, which owns the Detroit Pistons, purchased the amphitheater in 1990. 313 Presents promotes and produces concerts at the venue, in addition to five other venues across southesast Michigan, including Little Caesars Arena, Fox Theatre, Comerica Park, Meadow Brook Amphitheatre and Michigan Lottery Amphitheatre. Annually, Pine Knob ranks among the top-selling outdoor concert venues in the world and has won dozens of awards in the industry, including Pollstar's Best Major Outdoor Concert Venue (2000), Billboard's Top Amphitheater for attendance (2011) and Pollstar's Top Amphitheater Venue Worldwide for total tickets sold (2011, 2019, 2022).

Whipple Lake is an all-sports, 75-acre lake along the Clinton River. The lake lies entirely within Independence Township in Oakland County, Michigan. Whipple Lake is located east of Independence Oaks County Park, west of Pine Knob Road, north of Stickney Road, and south of Oak Hill Road. Whipple Lake Road is east of the lake. Whipple Lake connects downstream to 30-acre Crooked Lake and to seven-acre Dark Lake to the northeast.

Independence Township is a charter township of Oakland County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 36,686 at the 2020 census.Independence Township was first organized in 1834. The township surrounds the city of Clarkston, but the two are administered autonomously after Clarkston incorporated as a city in 1992. The township is home to the Pine Knob Music Theatre and the Pine Knob Ski Resort.

Sashabaw Presbyterian Church is a historic church located at 5331 Maybee Road near Clarkston, Michigan. The church is one of the oldest in the Detroit Presbytery and has served congregations for nearly 150 years. It was designated a Michigan State Historic Site in 1964 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.

Everest Collegiate High School and Academy is a private, Roman Catholic PK-12 college-preparatory school offering co-ed education for pre-school through grade 2, and gender-specific education for grades 3 to high school on a 90-acre (360,000 m2) campus, in Independence Township, Michigan, United States, near Clarkston. The high school opened to 9th grade students in 2008 and students can enroll in 3 year old pre-school through 12th grade for the 2017-2018 school year. The lake, with a maximum depth of 65 feet, lies within Independence Township in Oakland County, Michigan.The lake is located west of Sashabaw Road and south of Shappie Road. Crooked Lake connects upstream to Upper Bushman Lake Crooked Lake was formerly named Lower Bushman Lake.

Clarkston High School is a public high school located in Independence Township, Michigan. It is the only high school in the Clarkston Community Schools.
