Degrees awarded by WGU are accredited by the NWCCU, ACBSP, CAEP, CAHIIM, and CCNE. The university was founded by 19 U.S. governors in 1997 after the idea was formulated at a 1995 meeting of the Western Governors Association to expand education offerings to the internet.

Historically, the city of Salt Lake City, Utah, had a Chinatown that was located in a section called "Plum Alley" that contained a Chinese population that worked in the mining camps and the transcontinental railroad. The first Chinese peoples came in the 1860s and had formed a historical Chinatown in a section called "Plum Alley" on Second South Street which lasted until 1952. The area had a network of laundromats, restaurants and oriental specialty shops. While most residents kept within their micro-community, the residents did take part in some local Salt Lake City traditions. According to the tourist sign located at the former Chinatown, the Salt Lake City's New Year's Day Parade featured a "200 foot long Chinese dragon." According to KUED, around 1,800 Chinese lived here with "... a network of laundries, restaurants, Oriental specialty shops..." and "... gambling joints, providing the social outlet for many of the lonely residents..." who were bachelors, but Plum Alley was eventually razed "... and was replaced by Regent Street Parking Terrace".Josie Manwill of Brigham Young University notes the effects of anti-Chinese sentiment and the Chinese Exclusion Act but attributes the decline of Salt Lake City's Chinatown primarily to the Great Depression.

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Salt Lake City, is a Latin diocese of the Roman Catholic Church in the United States. Its boundaries are coterminous with the state of Utah. Its mother church is the Cathedral of the Madeleine in Salt Lake City and it is a suffragan diocese of the Archdiocese of San Francisco. Derks Field was a minor league baseball park in the western United States, located in Salt Lake City, Utah. It was the home field of the Salt Lake Bees, Angels, and Gulls of the Pacific Coast League, Bees, Giants, and Trappers of the Pioneer Baseball League, and the Salt Lake Sting of the American Professional Soccer League. Opened in 1928 as Community Park, the ballpark's final seating capacity was 10,000. In 1940, it was named for Salt Lake Tribune sports editor John C. Derks (1873–1944).Derks Field had replaced the previous professional ballpark, Bonneville Park (originally called Majestic Park), which was south of 9th Street between State Street and Main Street, on the site of an amusement park called the Salt Palace, which had been destroyed by fire in 1910. It operated from 1915 through 1927. As part of the construction of the new Community Park, the Bonneville stands were taken down and reassembled at the new site.[Salt Lake Deseret News, September 25, 1946, p.3] Destroyed by arson on the night of September 24, 1946, it reopened in May 1947, and was expanded in 1958 with the return of the PCL.Major League Baseball teams occasionally played exhibition games at Derks Field, including the 1960 Pittsburgh Pirates and the 1964 Milwaukee Braves.The field was aligned to the southeast, with a view of the Wasatch Range, and its elevation was 4,230 feet (1,290 m) above sea level. Its successor, Smith's Ballpark, opened on the same site 29 years ago in 1994.

It is the home field of the Salt Lake Bees of the Pacific Coast League and the collegiate Utah Utes of the Pac-12 Conference.

South High School was a high school in Salt Lake City, Utah, which operated from 1931 to 1988. The school was located on the southern end of Salt Lake City proper, at 1575 S. State Street. The school is now a campus of Salt Lake Community College.

Utah Open Lands Conservation Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit land trust conservation association in the United States. It is chartered to preserve and protect open space in order to maintain Utah's natural heritage and quality of life for present and future generations. This is achieved by assisting private landowners, government agencies and communities in the voluntary preservation of the agricultural, scenic, recreational, historic and wildlife values of open land. Utah Open Lands started in Summit County, Utah, as the Summit Land Conservation Association in 1990. The organization expanded to be a statewide land trust in 1995. Utah Open Lands works with landowners who want to preserve their land for conservation purposes. Their primary conservation tool is the conservation easement, which is a permanent, legally binding contract that restricts development to protect the special features of the property. Land ownership often remains unchanged when the land is protected by a conservation easement, meaning that the landowner retains title to the land and can continue to live on the land, use it, sell it, and or pass it on to the next generation. The Farm and Ranch Protection Act made available estate and income tax benefits for landowners who protect their land with conservation easements. The donation of a conservation easement may be considered a charitable contribution. Utah Open Lands has effectively conserved over 60,000 acres (240 km2) of critical open land in Utah.

The Chase Home Museum of Utah Folk Arts is operated by the Utah Division of Arts & Museums, and has been the permanent home of the Utah State Folk Arts Collection since 1987 and is the only museum in the United States that is dedicated to displaying a state-owned collection of contemporary folk art produced by its residents. It is a venue for Utah's diverse artists and communities to share their folk art including: crafts, music, and dance. In addition to rotating exhibits, annual concerts, and hands-on workshops, the Chase Home Museum houses an archive of fieldwork recordings and photographs that document Utah's folk art and traditional culture. The Chase Home Museum currently has three permanent exhibition galleries and one temporary exhibition gallery.

Artesian Well Park is a small urban park in downtown Salt Lake City that contains a natural artesian spring fed by an underground aquifer. It occupies a quarter acre on the southwest corner of the intersection between 800 South and 500 East. People from all over the surrounding area have been coming to get water for free from this spring for over 100 years.

It is the city's second-largest public park, at 80 acres (32 ha), being surpassed only by Sugar House Park which has 110.5 acres (44.7 ha). The park features a pond with two islands, and is also the location of Tracy Aviary. The park is listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) and it includes the Isaac Chase Mill, which is also NRHP-listed. The park is prominently featured in all seasons of the Disney Channel original series Andi Mack, however, it is never mentioned by name.

The Sarah Daft Home for the Aged in Salt Lake City, Utah, is a Colonial Revival building designed by William H. Lepper and constructed in 1914. The Daft Home was built with funds provided by Sarah Ann Daft, whose will in 1906 specified the founding of a retirement center. The home is regarded as the first of its kind in Utah, and it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.In 1911 the Sara Daft Home Association was formed to secure release of funding from the trustees of the Sara Daft estate, and in 1912 the association leased a house near the corner of 3rd Avenue and Q Street. The first resident of the home was Margaret Tileston, a Civil War nurse who received a commendation from President Lincoln. Tileston also became the first resident to die at the home.In 1913 workers placed the cornerstone at the home's permanent location, and the Sarah Daft Home opened in 1914. Originally the home provided space for 22 residents, and later expansions allowed for 39 residents.
