Westlicher Saalkreis

Salzmünde is a village and a former municipality in the district Saalekreis, in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. Since 1 January 2010, it is part of the municipality Salzatal.

Salzatal is a municipality in the Saalekreis district, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. It was formed on 1 January 2010 by the merger of the former municipalities Beesenstedt, Bennstedt, Fienstedt, Höhnstedt, Kloschwitz, Lieskau, Salzmünde, Schochwitz and Zappendorf.

The Salza is a river of Saxony-Anhalt state, in Germany. It is a left tributary of the Saale in Salzmünde. The upper section of the Salza carries the name Querne. Its source is near the village Landgrafroda, a district of the town Querfurt. It flows through Querfurt to Obhausen, where it receives its right tributary Weidenbach. Downstream from this confluence, the river carries the name Weida. It continues through Schraplau and Röblingen am See and near Langenbogen it receives water that is pumped out of the lake Kernersee (fed by the river Böse Sieben). From this point it carries the name Salza. The Salza proper is 10.8 km (6.7 mi) long; including Querne and Weida, it is 48.2 km (30.0 mi) long.

Döblitz is a village and a former municipality in the Saalekreis district, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. Since 1 January 2011, it has been part of the town of Wettin-Löbejün. Its historical and cultural society Förderverein Kultur und Geschichte Döblitz e.V. volunteers in preserving an old Romanesque church to maintain the cultural heritage and to offer cultural events to the community and to the region throughout the year.

Laweke is a river of Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. It flows into the Salza in Zappendorf.

Zappendorf is a village and a former municipality in the district Saalekreis, in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. Since 1 January 2010, it is part of the municipality Salzatal.

Brachwitz is a village and a former municipality in the Saalekreis district, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. Since 1 January 2011, it is part of the town Wettin-Löbejün.

Gimritz is a village and a former municipality in the Saalekreis district, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. Since 1 January 2011, it is part of the town Wettin-Löbejün.

Fienstedt is a village and a former municipality in the district Saalekreis, in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. Since 1 January 2010, it is part of the municipality Salzatal.

Wettin Castle is a former castle that stood near the town of Wettin on the Saale river in Germany, and which is the ancestral home of the House of Wettin, the dynasty that included several royal families, including that of the current ruling families of the United Kingdom and Belgium.In 982, Dedo I (d. 1009) and Frederick (d. 1017), sons of Theodoric I of Wettin, perhaps count of Hassegau, received lands taken from the Wends, including the county (or Gau) of Wettin on the right bank of the Saale. There is a legend that the family is descended from one Wettekind, but this can not be attested in any history. At least one reference claims that the castle was built by a descendant of Dietrich named Thimo.That castle is a rebuilt ruin, used as part of a building that houses a school and other public institutions but other castles owned by the Wettin family, from the 15th century, still exist in Meissen, and on the Elbe river.
