The South Bend Train Wreck (known also as the Great Mishawaka Train Wreck) occurred on June 27, 1859, between Mishawaka and South Bend in Indiana on the Michigan Southern Railroad killing 42 people and injuring 50 more.The train concerned was the Night Express from Chicago to Toledo carrying about 150 passengers. Just before midnight it was crossing an embankment known as the Springbrook Bridge over a 25-foot (7.6 m) deep ravine at a speed of 10 to 20 mph (16 to 32 km/h) when the embankment collapsed, plunging the entire train into a torrent of water, drowning many. According to the Chicago Daily Journal: "The engine was literally buried in the opposite side of the ravine in quicksand and mud, and the tender, baggage and express car, and two second class cars, were shattered almost into kindling wood, and piled on top of the engine. The two first class passenger cars followed, and were torn to pieces and carried down the stream, while the sleeping car, although making the leap with the rest was less injured". There had been extreme rainfall in the area the previous afternoon and evening and it is thought that the culvert beneath the embankment became blocked causing build-up of water behind the embankment which collapsed as the train was crossing. The westbound train had passed over safely at 8:30 p.m.One body was found in the St. Joseph River a mile below the creek; other bodies were discovered buried completely in sand and a week after the accident the death toll was 41 persons, though some sources estimate the death toll as much as 60 or 70.The site of the accident is close to the present intersection of Ironwood Road and Lincoln Way West.

Ellis-Schindler House, also known as the Robert Ellis House, is a historic home located at Mishawaka, St. Joseph County, Indiana. It was built in 1834, and is a 1+1⁄2-story, rectangular, Greek Revival style frame dwelling. It has a front gable roof and is sheathed in clapboard siding. The house was moved to its present location and renovated in 1979. It is the oldest known existing structure in Mishawaka.: 2 It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.

Kamm and Schellinger Brewery, also known as 100 Center Complex, is a historic brewery complex located at Mishawaka, St. Joseph County, Indiana. The complex consists of the original Brewery Building, the Stable Building (c. 1855), and the Boiler House (c. 1870) with a 262 foot tall brick chimney stack. The original Brewery Building was built in 1853, and is a four-story brick building with additions constructed about 1870 and 1875. It features an elaborate metal cornice, pediment and colonnaded cupola. The brewery cease operations in 1951.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

Marian High School (also known as Mishawaka Marian) is a Roman Catholic secondary school in Mishawaka, Indiana, in the United States, operated by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend. Marian was a top 50 school in 2005 noted on the Catholic High School Honor Roll. Marian High School holds a First Class commission from the Indiana State Department of Education and has been accredited by the North Central Association since early 1996. Marian received a letter grade of "A" for the 2013-2014 school year from the state. This is the third year that Marian has received this award

Battell Park Historic District is a historic public park and national historic district located at Mishawaka, St. Joseph County, Indiana. The district encompasses two contributing buildings, one contributing site, two contributing structures, and one contributing object in a public park. It was established in 1881, and subsequently developed with a Soldiers' War Memorial erected in 1884 and Classical Revival style bandshell erected in 1927. In 1936–1937, the Works Progress Administration added a five-tier, cascading rock garden with a waterfall, small pools, and arched bridge.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996.

Trinity School at Greenlawn is a private Christian school located in South Bend, Indiana that has grades 6-12. It was founded by the People of Praise in 1981 with fewer than 30 students, making it one of the first classical Christian schools.Trinity School attracts students from northwest Indiana and southwest Michigan, as well as international students. Located at 107 South Greenlawn Avenue in South Bend, Indiana, it is accredited by the Independent School Association of the Central States (ISACS). The Greenlawn campus has two sister schools, Meadow View and River Ridge. The schools are independent and are owned and operated by Trinity Schools, Inc.

The James A. Judie House, also known as the Judie-Olmsted House, is a historic home located at South Bend, St. Joseph County, Indiana. It was designed by Austin & Shambleau and was built in 1930. It is a 2+1⁄2-story, Tudor Revival style brick dwelling with half-timbering and limestone trim. It has a slate hipped roof.: 2 It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

Old Mishawaka Carnegie Library is a former public library and historic Carnegie library located at Mishawaka, St. Joseph County, Indiana. It was built in 1916, and is a one-story, Jacobethan Revival style, oriental brick building with terra cotta embellishments. It features a projecting entrance portico with limestone columns. An addition was constructed by the Works Progress Administration in 1937. It was built with a $30,000 grant from the Carnegie Foundation.: 5–6, 8, 11 It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1998. The building no longer contains a public library. Since 1969, the building has held private offices, a private residence, and in 2018 opened as Jesus Latin Grill and Tequila Bar.
