The Forestry building is a heritage-listed complex situated at 79–93 Melville Street, Hobart, Tasmania. It is made up of the former Crisp & Gunn offices and workshop, and Forestry Tasmania dome. The complex is located in the central business district of Hobart. The building complex extends along the north side of Melville Street, between Elizabeth and Murray Streets.

Hobart ( (listen) HOH-bart; Nuennonne/Palawa kani: nipaluna) is the capital and most populous city of the Australian island state of Tasmania. Home to almost half of all Tasmanians, it is the least-populated Australian state capital city, and second-smallest if territories are taken into account, before Darwin, Northern Territory. Hobart is located in Tasmania's south-east on the estuary of the River Derwent, making it the most southern of Australia's capital cities. Its skyline is dominated by the 1,271-metre (4,170 ft) kunanyi/Mount Wellington, and its harbour forms the second-deepest natural port in the world, with much of the city's waterfront consisting of reclaimed land. The metropolitan area is often referred to as Greater Hobart, to differentiate it from the City of Hobart, one of the five local government areas that cover the city. It has a mild maritime climate. The city lies on country which was known by the local Mouheneener people as nipaluna, a name which includes surrounding features such as kunanyi/Mt. Wellington and timtumili minanya (River Derwent). Prior to British settlement, the land had been occupied for possibly as long as 35,000 years by the semi-nomadic Mouheneener people, a sub-group of the Nuennone, or "South-East tribe".Founded in 1804 as a British penal colony, Hobart is Australia's second-oldest capital city after Sydney, New South Wales. Whaling quickly emerged as a major industry in the area, and for a time Hobart served as the Southern Ocean's main whaling port. Penal transportation ended in the 1850s, after which the city experienced periods of growth and decline. The early 20th century saw an economic boom on the back of mining, agriculture and other primary industries, and the loss of men who served in the world wars was counteracted by an influx of immigration. Despite the rise in migration from Asia and other non-English speaking regions, Hobart's population remains predominantly ethnically Anglo-Celtic, and has the highest percentage of Australian-born residents among Australia's capital cities.Today, Hobart is the financial and administrative hub of Tasmania, serving as the home port for both Australian and French Antarctic operations and acting as a tourist destination, with over 1.192 million visitors in 2011–12. Well-known drawcards include its convict-era architecture, Salamanca Market and the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA), the Southern Hemisphere's largest private museum.

Hobart City Centre (referred to as Hobart CBD) is a suburb surrounded by metropolitan Hobart, which comprises the original settlement, the central business district, and other built-up areas. It is the oldest part of Hobart and includes many of the city's important institutions and landmarks, such as Parliament, the Supreme Court, Franklin Square, the Elizabeth Street Mall, the Royal Hobart Hospital, the Theatre Royal, Odeon Theatre, State Library, the NAB Building, the Museum, and the Cenotaph. The city centre is located in the local government areas of the City of Hobart. Although the city centre is one of the oldest and most developed areas of Hobart, demographically it is one of the less densely populated areas in the greater area of Hobart, due to its core being commercial. In an attempt to create a more vibrant city at night, the state government has been encouraging inner city residential development in recent years. The population of the city centre was 3,390 in 2021.

Argo was a merchant ship built in 1806 at Chittagong, present-day Bangladesh. She was registered in Calcutta to Payne & Tyrce. She disappeared in 1814 off the coast of Tasmania after having been "run away with" by convicts.

The Odeon Theatre (formerly known as The Strand Theatre) is a historic former cinema and live entertainment venue in the city of Hobart, Tasmania, Australia.

St Mary's Cathedral in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia, is the seat of the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Hobart, presently Julian Porteous. The cathedral's origins can be traced back to 1822 when the first permanent Tasmanian priest Philip Conolly (1786–1839) constructed a temporary wooden chapel near the present cathedral site and dedicated to God, under the invocation of St. Virgilius, an "Irish Saint".

Holy Trinity Church is a former Anglican, and now Greek Orthodox, church in North Hobart, Tasmania.Holy Trinity has the oldest peal of bells of its type outside England.The church was designed in the Gothic Revival style by James Blackburn and consecrated in 1849. Rev. Philip Palmer was its first rector.In February 2007, a property assessment report found that more than $5 million was needed to restore the church building, and that it was unrealistic for the parish to continue maintaining all its properties. The following month, the parish council petitioned the Bishop of Tasmania, Rt. Rev. John Harrower, to deconsecrate the building. In August the decision to close the church was communicated to the congregation, and the final service was held on 28 October 2007.The Holy Trinity Church Charitable Trust was formed in November 2007 in an effort to preserve the building. The Trust asked the Anglican Church to transfer the property to them, but it was instead sold to the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia. As of 2015, extensive repairs had started on the church.

The ICON Complex is a mixed-use low-rise development located in central Hobart, Tasmania. The complex was developed in stages from 2015 to 2018, with entrances on Murray and Liverpool streets. It houses the Myer department store, which replaced the previous Myer building destroyed by fire in 2007, and includes several retail outlets and dining options. The ICON Complex also features the 235-room Crowne Plaza Hobart, operated by the InterContinental Hotels Group.

St Mary's College is a Kinder to Year 12 Catholic, day school for girls (and boys to Year 2), located on the northern city fringe of Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. Although predominantly a girls’ school, St Mary's accepts both boys and girls until Grade 2, and currently caters for approximately 900 students from Kindergarten to Year 12. It is located on the grounds of St Mary's Cathedral, next to the Junior School campus of St Virgil's College. Boys who attend St Mary's for Kindergarten to Year 2 generally transfer to St Virgil's College Junior School Campus located just next door. St Mary's College is a member of the Alliance of Girls' Schools Australia. In 2008 St Mary's College celebrated its 140th birthday as a school of the Presentation Sisters. Its slogan to celebrate this year was "St Mary's College. A proud past. A strong future".

The Cat and Fiddle Arcade is a shopping mall and hub located in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia and covers a city block made up of about 17 buildings at 49-51 Murray Street. It is famous for its musical clock, which plays the Hey Diddle Diddle nursery rhyme hourly with glockenspiel and vibraphone, and is a local tourist attraction. Cat and Fiddle Square (the location of a food court, and formerly a fountain) also holds other music events and occasionally art installations. Along with at least 70 specialty stores, the mall is Hobart's major clothing and fashion retail centre containing a Myer and Target which each cover two levels, as well as an H&M. It is accessible via the Icon Complex on Liverpool Street and Murray Street, and the Elizabeth Street Mall (close to the Hobart Bus Mall), and bounded by Collins Street where there is a skybridge to Trafalgar Place. It is also located directly between other malls in the shopping precinct, including the Wellington Centre (via Wellington Court or the Bank Arcade, anchored by a Woolworths) and Centrepoint Shopping Centre.
