St Mary's College, Hobart

St Mary's Cathedral in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia, is the seat of the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Hobart, presently Julian Porteous. The cathedral's origins can be traced back to 1822 when the first permanent Tasmanian priest Philip Conolly (1786–1839) constructed a temporary wooden chapel near the present cathedral site and dedicated to God, under the invocation of St. Virgilius, an "Irish Saint".

Elizabeth College is a government comprehensive senior secondary school located in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. Established in 1911 as the Elizabeth Street School and known as Elizabeth College since 1985, the college caters for approximately 1,000 students in Years 11 and 12 and is administered by the Tasmanian Department of Education. In 2019 student enrolments were 959. The college principal in 2022 is Shane Fuller.

Murray Street is one of the four key north-west thoroughfares within the Hobart City Centre (CBD). The street runs approximately 1.7 kilometres (1.1 mi), from the junction of Arthur and Burnett Streets in North Hobart to Morrison Street near Sullivans Cove. It is named after Captain John Murray, who served as commandant of Hobart Town under the administration of Governor Lachlan Macquarie in the early 19th century. As one of Hobart’s original streets, Murray Street was formalised by James Meehan, a surveyor, on 25 November 1811, during the establishment of the city’s original grid layout. The street houses several heritage-listed buildings, including St David's Cathedral (1874), the T & G Mutual Life Building (1937), Hadley's Orient Hotel (1862), and the Customs House Hotel (1846). Murray Street is also home to contemporary commercial spaces, such as the Centrepoint and Cat and Fiddle Arcade.

The Forestry building is a heritage-listed complex situated at 79–93 Melville Street, Hobart, Tasmania. It is made up of the former Crisp & Gunn offices and workshop, and Forestry Tasmania dome. The complex is located in the central business district of Hobart. The building complex extends along the north side of Melville Street, between Elizabeth and Murray Streets.

Holy Trinity Church is a former Anglican, and now Greek Orthodox, church in North Hobart, Tasmania.Holy Trinity has the oldest peal of bells of its type outside England.The church was designed in the Gothic Revival style by James Blackburn and consecrated in 1849. Rev. Philip Palmer was its first rector.In February 2007, a property assessment report found that more than $5 million was needed to restore the church building, and that it was unrealistic for the parish to continue maintaining all its properties. The following month, the parish council petitioned the Bishop of Tasmania, Rt. Rev. John Harrower, to deconsecrate the building. In August the decision to close the church was communicated to the congregation, and the final service was held on 28 October 2007.The Holy Trinity Church Charitable Trust was formed in November 2007 in an effort to preserve the building. The Trust asked the Anglican Church to transfer the property to them, but it was instead sold to the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia. As of 2015, extensive repairs had started on the church.

It is the oldest part of Hobart and includes many of the city's important institutions and landmarks, such as Parliament, the Supreme Court, Franklin Square, the Elizabeth Street Mall, the Royal Hobart Hospital, the Theatre Royal, Odeon Theatre, State Library, the NAB Building, the Museum, and the Cenotaph. The city centre is located in the local government areas of the City of Hobart. Although the city centre is one of the oldest and most developed areas of Hobart, demographically it is one of the less densely populated areas in the greater area of Hobart, due to its core being commercial. In an attempt to create a more vibrant city at night, the state government has been encouraging inner city residential development in recent years. The population of the city centre was 3,390 in 2021.
