Rouge River (Ontario)

West Rouge is a neighbourhood in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is located in the south-east corner of Toronto, within the former city of Scarborough. The community is roughly bounded by Lake Ontario to the south, the Rouge River and the Rouge National Urban Park to the east, Port Union Road to the west and Kingston Road to the north.

Petticoat Creek is a stream in the cities of Pickering, Toronto and Markham in the Greater Toronto Area of Ontario, Canada. The creek is in the Great Lakes Basin, is a tributary of Lake Ontario, and falls under the auspices of the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority. Its watershed covers 26.77 square kilometres (10.34 sq mi), and the cumulative length of all its branches is 49 kilometres (30 mi). Land use in the watershed consists of 52% agricultural, 27% protected greenspace and 21% urban.The "Petticoat Creek watershed is dominated by the South Slope physiographic region, a smooth, faintly drumlinized till plain."Because the creek is not long enough for its headwaters to lie within the groundwater rich Oak Ridges Moraine, waterflow on the upper reaches is intermittent and dependent on precipitation. Lower reaches, below the ancient shoreline of glacial Lake Iroquois, is more consistent.

Rouge Hill is a GO Transit train and bus station on the Lakeshore East line. The station is located on the shore of Lake Ontario in West Rouge in the former municipality of Scarborough, the most easterly neighbourhood of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is a major commuter transfer point, with large parking lots and local bus services. It is the last station in Toronto before the trains enter Durham Region.

Rouge River Bridge is a series of 170 metres (560 ft) spans carrying traffic on Highway 401 (Ontario) over the Rouge River (Ontario). It is technically not a single bridge, but rather several spans of highway overpasses over the Rouge River. Parts of the original bridges (built 1941-1942) during the initial construction of Highway 401 remain next to the spans added after the 1970s. The inner or express spans were built in 1971 and the outer or collector spans were completed in 1994 as part of the widening of the highway between Pickering and Scarborough. Both spans are Girder bridges. The spans carry 12 lanes of traffic in total, and run parallel to a section of Kingston Road that spans across the Rouge River on the north side. This is one of the least busy sections of the Highway 401 in Toronto carrying around 230,000 vehicles on average per weekday.

Port Union, also known as Centennial Scarborough is a neighbourhood in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is located in the south-east corner of Toronto, within the former suburb of Scarborough. The neighbourhood is bounded by Kingston Road to the north, Port Union Road to the east, the Lake Ontario shoreline to the south, and Highland Creek to the west. The neighbourhood originated as the small lakefront town of Port Union in the 19th century, within the area now known as West Rouge, until 1974 part of the Township of Pickering. It was later developed as a suburban bedroom community after the Second World War. Since the 1990s, the industrial lands along the waterfront have been transformed into new subdivisions, along with a paved walkway and bike path along the shore of Lake Ontario. The neighbourhood has many mature trees, parkland and waterfront. It is an affluent neighbourhood with 93% home ownership.

Bead Hill is an archaeological site comprising the only known remaining and intact 17th-century Seneca site in Canada. It is located along the Toronto Carrying-Place Trail on the banks of the Rouge River in Rouge Park, a city park in Toronto, Ontario. Because of its sensitive archaeological nature, it is not open to the public, nor readily identified in the park. It was designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 1991.

Dunbarton High School is located in Pickering, Ontario, Canada, and is part of the Durham District School Board. The school has students in grades 9-12 and offers a wide range of academic and extracurricular activities. Their mascot is the Spartan. Dunbarton consists of two campuses: Main Campus and South Campus, which it acquired after the closing of Woodlands Centennial Public School. The classes in south campus include English, visual art, music, drama, and dance.

The Birchmount Hospital (officially Scarborough Health Network, Birchmount Hospital, formerly but still commonly known as Scarborough Grace Hospital) is a hospital in Scarborough, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Located in the Agincourt neighbourhood along Birchmount Road, the hospital was opened in 1985 by The Salvation Army. As of 2016, it is part of the Scarborough Health Network.

Pickering—Scarborough East was a federal electoral district in Ontario, Canada, that had been represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 2004 to 2015. The district was created in 2003 from 44.1% of Pickering—Ajax—Uxbridge, 39.7% of Scarborough East, and 0.1% of Scarborough—Rouge River ridings. Following the Canadian federal electoral redistribution, 2012, the riding was redistributed between Pickering—Uxbridge and Scarborough—Rouge Park. The district consisted of the southwest part of the city of Pickering and the southeast part of the Scarborough district of Toronto. It was the only riding to overlap the boundaries of the 416 (City of Toronto) and the 905 (Greater Toronto Area) regions. Specifically, it consisted of the part of the City of Pickering lying south and west of a line drawn from the western city limit east along Finch Avenue, south along Valley Farm Road, northeast along Highway 401 and south along Brock Road to the southern city limit; and the part of the City of Toronto lying south and east of a line drawn from the eastern city limit west along Finch Avenue East, south along Meadowvale Road, west along Sheppard Avenue East, south along Morningside Avenue and southeast along Highland Creek to Lake Ontario.

The district was created in 2003 from 44.1% of Pickering—Ajax—Uxbridge, 39.7% of Scarborough East, and 0.1% of Scarborough—Rouge River ridings. The district consisted of the southwest part of the city of Pickering and the southeast part of the Scarborough district of Toronto. Sir Oliver Mowat Collegiate Institute (Sir Oliver Mowat CI, SOMCI, or Mowat) is a public high school located in the Port Union area of southeast Scarborough part of the Toronto District School Board. The school was opened in 1970 by the Scarborough Board of Education. The school is named after Oliver Mowat, the Premier of Ontario from 1872 to 1896. Its motto is De Monte Alto ("From a mount high").

Frenchman's Bay is a body of water in Pickering, Ontario, Canada, believed to be named for François de Salignac de la Mothe-Fénelon. The bay was once land locked before a canal was dug into the sandbar to allow vessels to serve what was then referred to as Port Liverpool in 1843.
