Ames Family Homestead is a historic home and farm located in Center Township, LaPorte County, Indiana. The Captain Charles Ames House was built in 1842, and is a 1+1⁄2-story, Federal style frame dwelling. It has a split granite stone basement and a gable roof with dormers. The Augustus Ames House was built in 1856, and is a 1+1⁄2-story, Greek Revival style frame dwelling. It sits on a brick foundation and sheathed in clapboard siding. Also on the property are the contributing traverse frame barn (1838), privy (c. 1930), ice house (c. 1930), cow shed (c. 1900), corn crib (c. 1930), chicken coop (c. 1940), silo (c. 1930), water pump (c. 1900) driveway marker (c. 1880), and wood shed (c. 1915).: 3 It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2012.

William Orr House, also known as the Orr-Richter House, is a historic home located in Center Township, LaPorte County, Indiana. It was built in 1875, and is a 2+1⁄2-story, Eastlake movement style brick dwelling, with Italianate and Gothic Revival style design elements. It features a 3+1⁄2-story central tower with a mansard roof and full width front porch.: 2 It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.

Summit is an unincorporated community in LaPorte County, Indiana, in the United States.Summit was named for its lofty elevation.The community lies about 4 miles (6.4 km) northwest of LaPorte and about 8 miles (13 km) southeast of Michigan City. Summit is at the intersection of West Johnson Road and county highways W 250 N and N 500 W. It is about 1 mile (1.6 km) northwest of the Indiana Toll Road (Interstate 90).

Pinhook Bog is a unique bog in Indiana that has been designated a National Natural Landmark. It is part of Indiana Dunes National Park, an area that many citizens, scientists, and politicians fought hard to preserve. Its sister bog, Volo Bog, is located nearby. The bog contains a large variety of plants, including insect eating plants, tamarack trees, stands of blueberry bushes, and floating mats of sphagnum moss. Pinhook Bog is about 580 acres (2.3 km2), a quarter of which is a floating mat of sphagnum peat moss. A "moat" separates the bog from the uplands.

Door Village is an unincorporated community in Scipio Township, LaPorte County, Indiana. It was founded in 1836.The site of the Old Fort at Door Village which was built in 1832 and a marker designates the site. A young man rode his Indian pony from Fort Dearborn to this part of the country to warn the settlers that Black Hawk and his Indians were coming on the warpath. The opening between the great forests which came down from the north and up from the south, was designated by the French voyageurs as "La Porte" or the door, from which La Porte County derived its name. The Marker is located on Joliet Road, on the north side near the intersection with Long Lane. Joliet Road follows the Old Sauk Trail from the south side of present-day LaPorte to the Town Of Westville.

Scipio Township is one of twenty-one townships in LaPorte County, Indiana. As of the 2010 census, its population was 4,570 and it contained 1,910 housing units.

It was built in 1853, and is a two-story, three-bay, Federal style brick dwelling, with Italianate style accents. The Pinhook Methodist Church and Cemetery are located in New Durham Township, LaPorte County, Indiana at Wozniak Road with State Road 2. Known as the village of Pinhook, formerly New Durham. The village is mostly residential along the south side of State Road 2. The site includes the Pinhook Methodist Church (1847), the Pinhook Cemetery (1850), the cemetery storage shed (ca. 1900), and the old pump (ca. 1930).
