Smyrna Airport (IATA: MQY, ICAO: KMQY, FAA LID: MQY) is a public general aviation and military use airport located two nautical miles (4 km) north of the central business district of Smyrna, a town in Rutherford County, Tennessee, United States. It is owned by the Smyrna / Rutherford County Airport Authority. Smyrna Airport is the third largest airport in Tennessee and is the state's busiest general aviation airport. Prior to March 1971, the facility was an active military installation known as Sewart Air Force Base. This airport is included in the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2011–2015, which categorized it as a reliever airport for Nashville International Airport, which is located twelve nautical miles (22 km) to the north.

Idler's Retreat, also known as the Dillon-Tucker-Cheney House, is a historic house in Smyrna, Tennessee, U.S.. It was built circa 1865 by J. D. Dillon. In 1882, it was purchased by John F. Tucker, and renamed Tucker Place. It was designed in the Greek Revival and Italianate architectural styles. By the 1940s, it was inherited by Brainard Cheney's wife. The couple entertained other writers like Robert Penn Warren, Caroline Gordon, Flannery O'Connor and Allen Tate. The house was later inherited by Roy Neel, who served as the chief of staff to Vice President Al Gore. It has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since May 19, 2004.

La Vergne ( lə-VURN) is a city in Rutherford County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 38,719 at the 2020 census. La Vergne lies within the Nashville Metropolitan Statistical Area.

A mass shooting occurred on September 24, 2017, when a gunman opened fire at the Burnette Chapel Church of Christ in Antioch, Tennessee, part of the Greater Nashville area, killing one person and injuring six others. The perpetrator was identified as Emanuel Kidega Samson, a 25-year-old native of Sudan. Samson was arrested after getting into an altercation with a bystander, and charged with first-degree murder and 43 other charges. The suspect indicated that the attack was an act of revenge for the 2015 Charleston church shooting.

Stewarts Creek High School is a public high school in the Rutherford County School system, located in Smyrna, Tennessee. The school opened in August 2013 with an estimate of 1500 students: 600 freshmen, around 300 sophomores and around 150 juniors and seniors. As of August 2021, SCHS currently has an enrollment of over 2,300. The school is located in southwest Smyrna, Tennessee. The students of the school come from surrounding Smyrna, LaVergne and Blackman high/middle schools as well as Rock Springs Middle School and Stewarts Creek Middle School. The current principal is Dr. Clark Harrell and the assistant principals include Tory Atwood, Janet Flannery, Casey Lawrence, and Jennifer Smith, who also acts as the schools Athletic Director. Kevin Dyson from the Tennessee Titans served as an assistant principal and athletic director for the school's first two years. The school's rivals consist of LaVergne and nearby Smryna. The $46.3 million facility stands at an outstanding 356,000 sq. ft. sq. and is the second largest school in Middle Tennessee. The school holds one of the best fine arts programs in Middle Tennessee. This school is considered one of the best schools in Rutherford County.

Long Hunter State Park is a state park in Davidson County and Rutherford County, Tennessee, located in the southeastern United States. The park is mostly situated along the eastern shores of Percy Priest Lake, an artificial lake created by an impoundment of the Stones River. Long Hunter State Park comprises three lake sections — Baker's Grove in the north, Couchville at the center, and Bryant Grove to the south. All three sections are connected by narrow strips of land. The park also manages Sellars Farm, a state archaeological area near Lebanon to the east.

The Starwood Amphitheatre was the primary outdoor music venue in the Nashville, Tennessee area from 1986 to 2006. It was owned by Live Nation and had a capacity of 17,137. It had previously been owned by SFX Entertainment and Clear Channel Worldwide, both predecessors of Live Nation Entertainment. It was demolished in 2007 and the site, as of 2021, has not yet been redeveloped. It was not affiliated with the now-defunct Starwood hospitality company.
