's-Hertogenbosch

Bouches-du-Rhin ([buʃ.dy.ʁɛ̃]; "Mouths of the Rhine", Dutch: Monden van de Rijn) was a department of the First French Empire in the present-day Netherlands. It was named after the mouth of the river Rhine. It was formed in 1810, when the Kingdom of Holland was annexed by France. Its territory corresponded with the eastern half of the present-day Dutch province of North Brabant and a part of the province of Gelderland. Its capital was 's-Hertogenbosch. The department was subdivided into the following arrondissements and cantons (situation in 1812): 's-Hertogenbosch, cantons: 's-Hertogenbosch, Boxtel, Heusden, Oisterwijk, Oss, Tilburg, Waalwijk and Zaltbommel. Eindhoven, cantons: Asten, Eindhoven, Gemert, Helmond, Hilvarenbeek, Oirschot and Sint-Oedenrode. Nijmegen, cantons: Boxmeer, Druten, Grave, Nijmegen, Ravenstein and Wijchen.Its population in 1812 was 257,580.After Napoleon was defeated in 1814, the department became part of the United Kingdom of the Netherlands.

De Toonzaal is a music venue for chamber music, improvised music, and experimental music, situated in 's-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands, in a former synagogue. The music program is mainly focused on classical music and contemporary classical music, less on popular music. The 's-Hertogenbosch Synagogue was built in 1823. During World War II a row of houses was built in front of the synagogue to block the view. Forty years later these houses were taken down to give the building its old appearance in the city. After World War II until the 1970s, the synagogue became less used.

The Design Museum Den Bosch (previously: Stedelijk Museum 's-Hertogenbosch, SM's) is a museum in 's-Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands. It focuses the applied arts, in particular ceramics and jewellery. It is next door to the Noordbrabants Museum, which shows visual arts such as painting. In 2023, plans to move the museum to a new location outside the centre of Den Bosch were announced.

Chalet Royal was a restaurant in Den Bosch in the Netherlands. It was a fine dining restaurant that held one Michelin star in the periods 1958-1976 and 1998-2011.Chalet Royal was one of the founders of the Alliance Gastronomique Neerlandaise in 1967.Kees van Gaalen founded “Chalet Royal” in 1937 as a hotel-restaurant. He was already owner of restaurant "Royal" in the Visstraat, when he decided to branch out and buy the villa. After a complete renovation of the villa, it opened in 1937 for the public.Head chef in the first star period Harry van Engelen. His successor was Toine Hermsen, who was unable to retain the star.The restaurant was forced to close in 2011, when the owner of the building wanted to make better use of it. Chalet Royal, user of about 350 square metres of the about 1500 square metres big building, did not fit in the new plan. Buying the building was not possible for restaurant owner and head chef Gerrit Greveling.After that, the Chalet Royal building was substantially renovated. The building houses two entrepreneurs: Edwin Kats and Mark Peet Visser. Edwin Kats, who received his first Michelin star in 1995, for restaurant De Swaen, and his second star in 2002, for restaurant La Rive, runs restaurant Noble with a contemporary and international concept. Mark Peet Visser exhibits his art collection in a newly built wing of the building.

The Dommel is a small river in Belgium and the Netherlands, left tributary of the Dieze. It is 120 km long, of which 85 km in the Netherlands. The Dommel takes in water from the Keersop, Tongelreep, Run, Gender and Kleine Dommel streams and merges at 's-Hertogenbosch with the Aa stream to form the river Dieze, which subsequently flows towards the Meuse. The main cities and towns along the Dommel's course are Peer, Neerpelt, Valkenswaard, Dommelen, Eindhoven, Son en Breugel, Sint-Oedenrode, Boxtel, Sint-Michielsgestel and 's-Hertogenbosch.

The Aa (Dutch pronunciation: [aː]) is a small river in the Netherlands. It rises near Nederweert in the southeastern province of Limburg, in the Peel region. It flows northwest through the province of North Brabant towards 's-Hertogenbosch, roughly along the Zuid-Willemsvaart canal. In 's-Hertogenbosch, at the confluence of the Aa and the Dommel, the river Dieze is formed, which flows into the Meuse (Dutch: Maas) a few km further. The main cities and towns along the Aa's course are Asten, Helmond, Veghel and 's-Hertogenbosch.
