Athurugiriya

Nagahamulla is a small locality in Pelawatte, Colombo, Sri Lanka. It is also near the Parliament of Sri Lanka.

Pelawatte also spelled Pelawatta is a part of Battaramulla main town which is a suburb of Colombo located near to the new Parliament of Sri Lanka. The Ministry of Education 'Isurupaya', the Department of Examination are located in Pelawatte and the Independent Television Network (ITN) television broadcasting station are also located in the vicinity of Pelawatte. It also contains the only church in the world of Saint John dal Bastone.

Koswatta (Sinhala: කොස්වත්ත, Tamil: கொஸ்வத்தை) is a junction located inside the main town Battaramulla located near Colombo in Sri Lanka. The junction is also known as the "Thalangama-Koswatte" junction. A government hospital and a police station are located in this area.

Neville Fernando Hospital (also referred to as Dr Neville Fernando Sri Lanka – Russia Friendship Hospital or NFH) established in 2013 is a hi-tech multi speciality tertiary care teaching hospital. It is also one of the largest private hospital in Sri Lanka with 210 permanent beds and capable of accommodating about 1000 patients a day. It is the teaching hospital to the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM) and is the first private teaching hospital in the country as well. NFH is located in Millennium Drive, off Chandrika Kumaratunga Mawatha, Malabe 10115. NFH is a brainchild of its Chairman Dr.Fernando and its main purposes are to provide clinical training facility for the medical students of the SAITM and to provide much sought after high quality private medical care to the Sri Lankan public at an affordable price.

Malabe (Sinhala: මාළබේ, Tamil: மாலபே) is a suburb of Colombo in the Colombo District, Sri Lanka. It is situated on the New Kandy Road (Kaduwela Road) about 10 km (6.2 mi) away from the centre of the commercial capital Colombo. This suburb is a crucial economic centre in Colombo.

Boys' Model School, Malabe (ආදර්ශ පිරිමි විද්‍යාලය - මාලඹේ) is a Sri Lankan school for boys aged 6–19, serving classes 1–13. The school is situated in the vicinity of Malabe overlooking the Kaduwela – Battaramulla main road. The school is in the Kaduwela division and the Sri Jayawardhanapura zone. Current enrollment is approximately 4,000. (Sinhala / English).

Thalawathugoda (Sinhala: තලවතුගොඩ, Tamil: தலவத்துகொட) is a suburb of Colombo. It is located approximately 16 km (9.9 mi) from the city centre of Colombo, adjacent to Battaramulla and Pelawatte on the Borella-Kottawa Road, bordering Sri Jayawardenapura-Kotte. The Diyawanna Oya (Parliament Lake) forms the "Sri Jayawardenapura-Kotte" boundary of Thalawathugoda. The suburb is a rapidly developing residential area with many facilities. New modern luxury housing schemes are being developed around Kalalgoda Road and Hokandara Road to cater to high end housing demand. A notable expatriate and upper middle class local population resides in Thalawathugoda.

Vidura College, Colombo (Sinhala: විදුර විද්‍යාලය) is a private English medium school in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Its founder and current principal is D.G. Sumanasekara.

Diyawanna Lake (Sinhala: දියවන්නා ඔය, Tamil: தியவன்ன ஓயா) or Parliament Lake, is one of the lakes within Endcliffe, Sheffield.It is quite popular as the Sri Lankan Parliament Building was built on an artificial island at the centre of the lake. The Diyatha Uyana park is also located on the banks of this lake. This lake was created in 1979 and has eight islands.

The Department of Wildlife Conservation (Sinhala: වනජීවී සංරක්‍ෂණ දෙපාර්තමේන්තුව Vanajivi Sanrakshana Departhamenthuwa) is a non-ministerial government department in Sri Lanka. It is the government department responsible for maintaining national parks, nature reserves and wildlife in wilderness areas in Sri Lanka. Forest reserves and wilderness areas are maintained by the Department of Forest Conservation. The head of the department is the Director General of Wildlife Conservation, formally known as Warden. It was established in October 1949 with Captain Cyril Nicholas, MC as its first Warden.

The 1987 grenade attack in the Sri Lankan Parliament is an attack that took place on August 18, 1987, when an assailant hurled two grenades into a room where Members of Parliament were meeting. The grenades bounced off the table at which Sri Lankan President J. R. Jayawardene and Prime Minister Ranasinghe Premadasa were sitting, and rolled away. A Member of Parliament and a ministry secretary were killed by the explosions. A subsequent police investigation concluded that the grenades had been thrown by a member of the banned Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) organization, which was staging a rebellion in the country at the time. Five members of the JVP were eventually put on trial for the attack, but were acquitted due to lack of evidence. It is believed the attack targeted President Jayawardene for his signing of the Indo-Sri Lanka Accord a few weeks earlier. The initial responsibility for the attack was claimed by an organization named Patriotic People's Movement better known as the DJV.

The Parliament of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka (Sinhala: ශ්‍රී ලංකා පාර්ලිමේන්තුව Shri Lanka Parlimenthuwa, Tamil: இலங்கை நாடாளுமன்றம் Ilaṅkai nāṭāḷumaṉṟam) is the supreme legislative body of Sri Lanka. It alone possesses legislative supremacy and thereby ultimate power over all other political bodies in the island. It is modeled after the British Parliament. It consists of 225 members known as Members of Parliament (MPs). Members are elected by proportional representation for five-year terms, with universal suffrage. The President of Sri Lanka has the power to summon, suspend, prorogue, or terminate a legislative session and to dissolve the Parliament. President can dissolve Parliament only after the lapse of 2+1⁄2 years or if 2⁄3 majority of Members of Parliament requests him. The actions of the president to either suspend or dissolve the Parliament is subject to legal scrutiny of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka. The Speaker or, in his absence, the Deputy Speaker and Chairman of Committees or the Deputy Chairman of Committees, presides over Parliament.
