Hundvåg, Stavanger

Hundvåg is an island in Stavanger municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. The island is located in the borough of Hundvåg, just north of the centre of the city of Stavanger, separated by the Byfjorden. The 4.7-square-kilometre (1.8 sq mi) island is relatively flat and very urbanized. There were 9803 residents of the island in 2014. There are some agricultural areas as well as a lot of industry. The small island of Buøy is connected to the south side of Hundvåg by a small man-made isthmus. Hundvåg Church is located on the island.

Hundvåg Church (Norwegian: Hundvåg kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Stavanger Municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. It is located on the island of Hundvåg in the borough of Hundvåg in the northeastern part of the city of Stavanger. It is the church for the Hundvåg parish which is part of the Stavanger domprosti (arch-deanery) in the Diocese of Stavanger. The red brick church was built in a rectangular design in 1983 using designs by the architects Knut and Ingeborg Hoem. The church seats about 540 people.

Buøy is an island in the municipality of Stavanger in Rogaland county, Norway. It is located in the borough of Hundvåg in the city of Stavanger. The 0.6-square-kilometre (150-acre) island was formerly separated from the island of Hundvåg by a small channel of water, but that was filled in. Buøy is connected to the mainland city of Stavanger by a series of bridges over three other islands and the Byfjorden.Buøy is also the name of an official neighborhood (delområde) of the city. The neighborhood has a population of 1,792 which is distributed over an area of 1.19 square kilometres (0.46 sq mi) including the islands of Buøy, Engøy, Sølyst, and Grasholmen.

Grasholmen is an island in Stavanger municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. It is located in the Buøy neighborhood in the borough Hundvåg in the city of Stavanger, just north of the city centre. The island is connected to mainland Stavanger via the Stavanger City Bridge and it is connected to the neighboring island of Sølyst by a short bridge. Grasholmen was historically a part of the municipality of Hetland, but on 1 January 1867 it was transferred to the city of Stavanger.

HNoMS Æger was a Sleipner-class destroyer launched at Karljohansvern naval shipyard in Horten in 1936. The Sleipner class was part of a Norwegian rearmament scheme started as war became ever more likely in the 1930s. When the Germans invaded Norway on 9 April 1940, Æger intercepted and sank the clandestine German supply ship Roda. She was shortly afterwards attacked and sunk by German bombers, claiming two of the attacking aircraft with her anti-aircraft armament before being taken out of action by a heavy bomb. This makes her the first naval ship sunk by aeroplane in hostility.

The Hundvåg Tunnel (Norwegian: Hundvågtunnelen) is a road tunnel in Stavanger municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. The 5.5-kilometre (3.4 mi) long tunnel is located on the Norwegian National Road 13 highway. The tunnel goes under the Byfjorden and it connects the mainland of the city of Stavanger and the island of Hundvåg. The tunnel is part of the Ryfast tunnel network that opened in 2019. The western end of the tunnel connects to the Eiganes Tunnel in the city of Stavanger. Near the eastern end of the tunnel, there is an exit to the island of Buøy as well. The tunnel exits on the island of Hundvåg, just a short distance from the entrance to the Ryfylke Tunnel, a much longer tunnel crossing the fjord to Ryfylke.

Engøy is an island in Stavanger municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. It is located in the "neighborhood" of Buøy in the borough Hundvåg in the city of Stavanger, just north of the city centre. The island is almost completely urbanized with many houses on the east side and a lot of industry on the west side. There were 461 residents on the island in 2014.The 17.1-hectare (42-acre) island is connected to mainland of Stavanger via the Engøy Bridge, which connects Engøy to the islands Sølyst and Grasholmen, and by the Stavanger City Bridge which connects Sølyst and Grasholmen to the mainland. Engøy was historically part of Hetland municipality until 1 January 1879 when it was transferred to the city of Stavanger.

Stavanger Konserthus or Stavanger Concert Hall is a concert hall in Stavanger, Norway. It was officially opened by Crown Prince Haakon on 15 September 2012. The financing of the building was shared by the municipality of Stavanger, the county of Rogaland, the Norwegian government and private sponsors at a cost of 1.225 billion Norwegian kroner. The concert hall has two halls, an orchestra hall and a multi-purpose hall with excellent acoustics, great foyer areas out to the seaside and a large outdoor amphitheater. It can be arranged symphony concert in one hall and a rock concert in the other - at the same time. Architects were RATIO Arkitekter AS.

Sølyst is an island in Stavanger municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. The 0.13-square-kilometre (32-acre) island is located in the Buøy neighborhood in the borough of Hundvåg, just north of the centre of the city of Stavanger. It is connected to mainland Stavanger via the island Grasholmen and the Stavanger City Bridge. The island is hilly and rocky as well as heavily-treed. Most development is located on the south shore.

Bjørnøy is a small island in Stavanger municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. The island is located in the borough of Hundvåg in the city of Stavanger. It is connected by bridge to the island of Hundvåg to the east (which in turn is connected to the mainland city of Stavanger), and it is also connected to the small islands of Roaldsøy and Ormøy to the south. The island is heavily populated and is covered with houses, although there are still a few larger green spaces left undeveloped.

Gamle Stavanger is a historic area of the city of Stavanger in Rogaland, Norway. The area consists largely of restored wooden buildings which were built in the 18th century and at the beginning of the 19th century.In the aftermath of World War II, a new city plan was created for Stavanger. It included razing most of the old wooden buildings in the city centre and replacing them with new modern structures in concrete. One single voice spoke up against this plan, and today it is recognized that Gamle Stavanger owes its existence to Einar Hedén (1916-2001), then City Architect of Stavanger. In 1956 the city council voted to conserve part of the old city centre.The area selected for conservation was the one considered the least desirable, consisting of small rundown wooden buildings located on the western side of Vågen, the inner harbor area of Stavanger. This area has a selection of preserved wood houses dating from both the 19th and 20th century. Some of the houses are owned by the municipality, but most are privately owned. Over the years the area has changed from seedy to trendy, and today is considered a choice location for the urban-minded with a sense of history. Gamle Stavanger has grown such that it now covers more than 250 buildings most of which are small, white wooden cottages. The area also includes the Norwegian Canning Museum which displays a typical factory from the 1920s.The Municipality of Stavanger has received several awards for the preservation of Gamle Stavanger. During the Council of Europe's 1975 European Architectural Year, Gamle Stavanger, together with the historic fishing village of Nusfjord in Nordland and the former mining town of Røros in Sør-Trøndelag, were identified as examples of how conservation of old buildings may well coincide with use, and how rehabilitation can be done without loss of character.
