The Miami Pop Festival was a rock festival that took place from December 28-30, 1968, at Gulfstream Park, a horse racing track in Hallandale, Florida, just north of Miami. It is sometimes confused with a separate event that took place seven months earlier, at the same venue, though the two events were unrelated. The earlier event was officially publicized on promotional materials and in radio ads as the "1968 Pop and Underground Festival," and "The 1968 Pop Festival," but later came to be referred to colloquially as the "Miami" Pop Festival, a practice which has led to confusion between the two events.

Decades later, the May 1968 festival began to be referred to colloquially as the "Miami Pop Festival", leading to confusion with the actual Miami Pop Festival, which took place in December 1968.

Gulfstream Park is a Thoroughbred horse race track, casino and outdoor entertainment and shopping destination in Hallandale Beach, Florida, United States. It is among the most important venues for horse racing in the United States, and is open 365 days a year. The venue is owned by The Stronach Group. Thoroughbred horse racing occurs year-round, defined by three distinct race meets and one invitational: Championship Meet (December - March) Pegasus World Cup Royal Palm Meet (April - September) Flamingo Festival Meet (October - November)

Hallandale Beach (formerly known simply as Hallandale) is a city in southern Broward County, Florida, United States. The city is named after Luther Halland, the son of a Swedish worker for Henry Flagler's Florida East Coast Railroad. It's also part of the Miami metropolitan area of South Florida. As of the 2020 census, the population was 41,217. The city is known as the home of Gulfstream Park (horse racing and casino) and Mardi Gras Casino, a greyhound racing track which hosts the World Classic. The area surrounding those two major places created a sizable downtown financial district, with offices for a number of banks and brokerage houses, plus many restaurants.

Don Soffer Aventura High School (DSAHS) is a charter high school in Aventura, Florida. It was named after land developer Donald Soffer.

The Danny Thomas-Diplomat Classic was a golf tournament in south Florida on the PGA Tour that was played only once, in early December 1969. Held at Diplomat Presidential Country Club, between Miami and Fort Lauderdale, it had a $125,000 purse and a winner's share of $25,000. The last event of the year, it was played opposite a satellite event, the West End Classic in The Bahamas. Six strokes back at the start of the final round, Arnold Palmer shot 65 (−7) and won by two strokes over runner-up Gay Brewer, the leader after each of the first three rounds. It was consecutive victories for the forty-year-old Palmer, who had broken a winless drought the previous week at the new Heritage Classic in southern South Carolina.Although this tournament played for only one year, Danny Thomas continued to lend his name to a PGA Tour event for the next fifteen years (1970–84), at the Danny Thomas Memphis Classic in southwest Tennessee.

The Big Easy Casino, formerly known as Mardi Gras Casino and Hollywood Greyhound Track, is a casino and formerly a greyhound racing facility located in Hallandale Beach, in the Florida, US. The casino features over 700 slot machines, virtual table games, free to enter poker tournaments and nightly entertainment.

Aventura is a planned, suburban city in northeastern Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States, 15 miles (24 km) north of Miami and part of South Florida's Miami metropolitan area. The city is especially known for Aventura Mall, the third largest mall in the United States by total square feet of retail space and the largest mall in Florida. The city name is from the Spanish word for "adventure", and was named "Aventura" after the developers of the original group of condominiums in the area, Eddie Lewis and Don Soffer, who had remarked "What an adventure this is going to be."As of the 2020 census, the city population was 40,242, up from 35,762 in 2010.

Hallandale High School is a public high school and magnet school located in Hallandale Beach, Florida. The school is a part of the Broward County Public Schools district and was established in 1973. It serves: Hallandale Beach, Pembroke Park, and West Park.

Aventura Mall is a shopping mall located in Aventura, Florida. It is the third-largest mall in the United States by total square feet of retail space and the largest mall in Florida. The mall features JCPenney, Macy's, Nordstrom, and Bloomingdale's, in addition to a 24-screen AMC Theatres. Aventura Mall has more than 50 eateries and restaurants, including Treats Food Hall, and the experiential Arts Aventura Mall program. The Brightline Aventura Station, which opened in December 2022, is located across Biscayne Boulevard from the mall. A pedestrian bridge across Biscayne Blvd. is planned, to provide direct access to the mall from the station. In the interim, Brightline is providing free shuttle bus service.
