It runs roughly north-south and is primarily a commercial and financial thoroughfare of the city centre. Queen Street is named for Adelaide of Saxe-Meiningen.

200 Queen Street, also known as 200Q and previously known as ACI House, is an office building in Melbourne. It is located at the north-east corner of Queen Street and Little Bourke Street. Around 130 metres in height, it has 32 full floors, plus two smaller floors atop that. It was the first high rise development in Melbourne by the Australian development firm, Grocon. The building was sold for $39 million in 1998 and again in 2003 for $78 million.200 Queen Street was briefly featured in the Australian movie The Castle.

The Queen Street massacre was a mass shooting which occurred on 8 December 1987 at the Australia Post offices at 191 Queen Street in Melbourne, Victoria. University dropout Frank Vitkovic entered the building on the pretext of visiting a friend, and fired on office workers at random with an illegally modified M1 carbine, killing eight and injuring five. After being disarmed, he crawled from an 11th-floor window and died on impact. Several possible motives were suggested. He had once received counselling. He had failed to build relationships with girls. His tennis-playing success had been interrupted by a serious knee injury. And the results of a Scientology test revealed that he "had hit rock bottom", which may have worsened his depression.

The Old High Court Building is a Heritage Council of Victoria and National Heritage List listed building in Little Bourke Street, Melbourne. The High Court of Australia sat at the building from 1928 to 1980, and the was the location of its registry from 1928 to 1973.

380 Melbourne is a residential and hotel skyscraper in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Designed by Elenberg Fraser and developed by Brady Group, the project is to include 728 residential apartments as well as 312 hotel rooms within a 67-level skyscraper, which will reach a height of 217.5 metres (714 feet).The Lonsdale Street development was first proposed in 2013, initially as a 47-storey tower; however, plans were later re–submitted and hence the project was redesigned. 380 Lonsdale Street received planning approval by the Minister for Planning Richard Wynne in March, 2015. The project has an estimated worth of AUD$240.5 million, and construction commenced in March 2018 with an expected completion date set in 2020.

Little Lonsdale Street is located in the centre of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. A part of the Hoddle Grid, it runs roughly east–west. North of Lonsdale Street and south of La Trobe Street, Little Lonsdale Street's eastern end intersects with Spring Street while its western end intersects with Spencer Street. It was named after William Lonsdale, the first administrator and magistrate in Melbourne. Unlike the other little streets, it runs one-way in the easterly direction, not the west. In the nineteenth century, the eastern end of the street ran through a notorious "red light district," known as "Little Lon". It was associated with prostitution, petty crime and "larrikinism."

The Supreme Court (Building), is a court building located at 192-228 William Street in Melbourne, Australia. It is part of a complex of buildings which, together with the Supreme Court Library and Court of Appeal, are known as the Melbourne Law Courts. It is currently the home to the Supreme Court of Victoria, the most senior court in the state of Victoria, and inferior only to the High Court of Australia. The Supreme Court has occupied the site since its first sitting in February 1884.

Hardware Lane is a wide laneway in Melbourne, Australia. It runs roughly north–south between Bourke Street and Little Lonsdale Street in the city centre. It changes name to Hardware Street between Lonsdale and Little Lonsdale Streets.The lane is famous for its numerous restaurants and cafés, though also features hairdressers, fast food restaurants and retail shops. Hardware lane is a thriving example of Melbourne's famous laneway culture, with a distinctly European feeling and unique red brick paving.The lane is closed to traffic between 11am-11pm and occasionally features nighttime live jazz performances.

The Supreme Court of Victoria is the highest court in the Australian state of Victoria. Founded in 1852, it is a superior court of common law and equity, with unlimited and inherent jurisdiction within the state. The Supreme Court comprises two divisions: the Trial Division, which oversees its original jurisdiction, and the Court of Appeal, which deals with its appellate jurisdiction, and is frequently referred to as a court in its own right. Although the Supreme Court is theoretically vested with unlimited jurisdiction, it generally only hears, at trial, criminal cases in instances of murder, manslaughter or treason, and civil cases where the statement of claim is in excess of the Magistrates' Court limit of $100,000. The court hears appeals from the County Court, as well as limited appeals from the Magistrates' Court. Decisions of the Supreme Court are appealable to the High Court of Australia. The building itself is on the Victorian Heritage Register.

The County Court of Victoria is the intermediate court in the Australian state of Victoria. It is equivalent to district courts in the other states. The County Court is the principal trial court in the state, having a broad criminal and civil jurisdiction. The court hears indictable offences (with the exception of murder, manslaughter, and treason), and has unlimited civil jurisdiction, though it generally only hears cases where the statement of claim exceeds the Magistrates' Court limit of $100,000. The court also possesses appellate jurisdiction for cases from the Magistrates' Court, while decisions of the County Court may be appealed to the Supreme Court. With approximately 70 sitting judges, the court hears up to 12,000 cases annually. Peter Kidd was named Chief Judge of the County Court on 8 September 2015.

National Bank House is a commercial skyscraper located in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, completed in 1978, designed by architects Godfrey and Spowers. The National Bank of Australia, later the National Australia Bank, made it their headquarters on completion.Located near the crest of the western hill of Bourke Street, the skyscraper was built in the mid 1970s as a speculative office tower, which was fully occupied by the National Bank of Australia as their headquarters. In 1982 they merged with Commercial Banking Company of Sydney to form the National Australia Bank, known as the NAB. In 2004, the NAB moved their global head offices to 700 - 800 Bourke Street, "National @ Docklands", both located in the Docklands precinct of Melbourne, but the bank still remains a full tenant of National Bank House. In 2009, the building was fully refurbished by then owner ISPT in order to increase energy efficiency to 5 stars, and the ground level was rebuilt with a new lobby, refurbished rear plaza cafes and street canopy designed by John Wardle architects.National Bank House reaches 161 metres in height, and comprises 40 storeys of offices. At the time of its completion in 1978, it was the third-tallest building in Melbourne; the commercial building is currently the 43rd tallest in the city.
