Pepper Tree Playfield is a 21.7-acre community park located in western Newbury Park, California. It is located at the corner of Reino and Old Conejo Roads, and was acquired by the Conejo Recreation & Park District (CRPD) in 1977, but not developed nor opened until 1983. It contains a 0.83-mile fitness trail loop, and is nearby numerous trailheads. The park is within walking distance from the Conejo Vista Trailhead in Old Conejo Open Space, located immediately north of Pepper Tree Playfield, and the park is directly across the street from the Knoll Trailhead (Pepper Tree Vista Trail) in Knoll Open Space, which is to the park’s immediate east, crossing North Reino Road. It is also an access point for trails leading to the Conejo Mountain. Pepper Tree Playfield is named for its many pepper trees, which surrounds the park area. The park is managed by the Conejo Recreation & Park District (CRPD), It contains three parking stalls, bleacher seating for 120, picnic tables and structures, a playground, four soccer fields, and two softball fields. The park is used for a variety of recreational activities, including but not limited to hiking, football, softball, cross country running, soccer, camping, running, and bird observation.Pepper Tree Playfield, along with Dos Vientos Community Park, is home to American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) Region 42 (Newbury Park) and draws hundreds of players and spectators during the AYSO season, with fields here utilized for games on weekends during half of the year beginning in September.To get here from the Ventura Freeway in Newbury Park, CA, take the Exit for Wendy Drive. If coming from Los Angeles, turn left from the off-ramp onto Wendy Dr. then turn right immediately over the bridge on Old Conejo Road at the Mobil Station. If coming from Ventura/Santa Barbara, proceed straight from the off-ramp; this will place you on Old Conejo Road. After one mile, park at Pepper Tree Playfield. It is situated at 3720 Old Conejo Road.

Rabbit Hill, also referred to as Knoll Hill, is a 797-foot high hill (243 m) located in Knoll Park (also known as Knoll Open Space), which is among the highest peaks in Newbury Park, California that are not parts of the Santa Monica Mountains. It is reached from a trailhead on North Reino Road, just across the road from the Pepper Tree Playfields, which provides hikers to Rabbit Hill with parking spaces. The sloping Knoll Trail (Pepper Tree Vista Trail) goes from N. Reino Rd. to the top of the knoll, which offers panoramic views of Newbury Park, Casa Conejo, Boney Mountain, Thousand Oaks and Conejo Mountain. The total park area is 21 acres (8.5 ha) including the hill, which is covered with coastal sage scrub and grassland.

Knoll Open Space, also known as Knoll Park, is a 21 acres (8.5 ha) open-space area in western Newbury Park, California, United States, adjacent to Pepper Tree Playfield. The Knoll Open Space is owned and operated by the Conejo Open Space Conservation Agency (COSCA), and the flora here includes coastal sage scrub and grass. The 1.9 miles (3.1 km) Knoll Trail (Pepper Tree Vista Trail) goes from its trailhead at North Reino Road and leads to the top of Rabbit Hill (Knoll Hill). The hill offers panoramic views of the Conejo Valley, Santa Monica Mountains, Conejo Mountain, and Boney Mountain.

Borchard Community Park is a public park located in western Newbury Park, CA. Situated adjacent to both the Newbury Park High School and the Borchard Maintenance Shop, the park is situated at the corner of Reino Road and Borchard Road at the foothills of the Santa Monica Mountains. The park encompasses 29 acres, which is home to various courts for recreational sports, fitness area, community rooms, a farm themed playground, picnic areas, several fields, and a skate park. The park was established by the Conejo Recreation & Park District (CRPD) in 1969. It has two volleyball courts, four tennis courts, two stages, three softball fields, a basketball court, barbecue grills, two bocci courts, a gymnasium, horseshoe pits, a kitchen, a soccer field, two playgrounds, and more.To get here from Highway 101, take the Borchard Road/Rancho Conejo Road Exit and go southwest on Borchard Rd. for one mile to the park entrance. It is located at 190 Reino Road in western Newbury Park.There is an undergoing project to create a multiuse pathway along the Arroyo Conejo from the southern parts of the park through Casa Conejo, CA and further to the Newbury Park Library.Near the corner of Borchard- and Reino Roads, where Borchard Community Park is located today, was the home of the pioneer Caspar Borchard family, who owned a large ranch here in 1881–1961.

The Conejo Grade is a 7% grade incline on a section of US 101 (the Ventura Freeway). Also known as the Camarillo Grade, it links Thousand Oaks and cities of the Conejo Valley, with Camarillo and the cities on the Oxnard Plain. With a summit elevation of 841.1 feet (256.4 m), California Highway Patrol inspection stations for trucks are situated on both sides of the highway at the upper terminus of the grade.The Conejo Mountain has functioned as a barrier by separating Ventura County into East County and West County. Historically, the mountain was known for its many jackrabbits and prickly pear cacti. The surrounding area was formed by volcanic eruptions millions of years ago, a rare geological formation in Southern California. Within the traditional lands of the Chumash people, they had a trading trail through the pass, and it later served as a trading route for farmers and their wagons down the Conejo Grade to the Hueneme wharf. The grade experienced improvements by the newly established State Highway Department in 1912, when the road measured six miles (9.7 km) long and had 49 curves. Traffic kept increasing and the road was straightened and relocated in 1935. The new road was a mile shorter and only had twelve curves.

Casa Conejo ( ; Spanish for "Rabbit House") is an unincorporated county island in Newbury Park, Ventura County, California, United States. It was the first planned community in Newbury Park and began building in 1960. When the city of Thousand Oaks incorporated 4 years later, the new developments in Newbury Park were incorporated into the city boundaries before being subdivided. The community is bordered by Old Conejo Road and US 101 to the north, Borchard Road to the south, Jenny Drive to the west, and Sequoia Middle School to the east. For statistical purposes, the United States Census Bureau has defined Casa Conejo as a census-designated place (CDP). The census definition of the area may not precisely correspond to local understanding of the area with the same name. The population was 3,249 at the 2010 census, up from 3,180 at the 2000 census. Casa Conejo is located in a roughly rectangle-shaped unincorporated area surrounded by the city of Thousand Oaks. The Casa Conejo Municipal Advisory Council (MAC) serves Casa Conejo residents, and makes recommendations to the Board of Supervisors. Its purpose is to provide a forum for Casa Conejo residents to discuss issues and come with ideas to the Board of Supervisors. While numerous other unincorporated islands were ultimately annexed by the City of Thousand Oaks during the 1980s, Casa Conejo voters rejected such efforts and remains an unincorporated pocket surrounded by Newbury Park. While Newbury Park is in Thousand Oaks, Casa Conejo is in Newbury Park but not in Thousand Oaks.

Cypress Park is a five-acre neighborhood park in southwestern Newbury Park, California. Acquired in 1969, the land was developed into a community park in 1973 with a baseball field, a playground, picnic tables, and bleachers. It is owned and operated by the Conejo Recreation & Park District (CRPD). Situated immediately south of Cypress Elementary School, the park is also home to several ponds and smaller creeks. It is used for bird-observations, recreational activities, picnicking, and camping.Located in southern Newbury Park, the park is within walking distance of Del Prado Playfield, Dos Vientos Ranch Park, Potrero Ridge Open Space, and the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area by Rancho Sierra Vista.The nearby Cypress Elementary School is home to the original school bell which belonged to the 1889 Timber School.

The Potrero Ridge Open Space is a passive recreation area in the southwestern portion of Newbury Park, CA and the Conejo Valley that encompasses eastern parts of the Potrero Ridge. The open-space area contains a total of 203 acres (82 ha), and is owned and operated by the Conejo Open Space Conservation Agency (COSCA). It is adjacent to the Dos Vientos Open Space in the west, which provides further access to the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area by Satwiwa, as well as the Alta Vista Open Space, Los Vientos Open Space, and Los Robles Trail which leads to Los Robles Open Space in Thousand Oaks, CA and further into Westlake Village.Conejo Valley’s longest creek, the Conejo Creek (Arroyo Conejo) runs through the western parts of the Potrero Ridge Open Space. Some of the fauna here includes mountain lions, bobcats, coyotes, mule deer, golden eagles, American black bears, and reptiles such as the Western pond turtle and freshwater fish species in the Arroyo Conejo. There are more than ten trailheads to access the open-space area, and some of the flora includes oak woodlands, coastal sage scrub and chaparral. It is home to a wide variety of rare or endangered plant species as well, including Verity's liveforever, Conejo dudleya, and Conejo buckwheat. “Potrero” means a farm for rearing horses or pasture ground in Spanish.

Conejo Mountain is a 1,814-foot-high mountain (553 m) in Ventura County, California near Camarillo on the eastern boundary of the Oxnard Plain. At the western edge of the Conejo Valley, it is adjacent to the Santa Monica Mountains. Crossing what was once a formidable barrier for travelers, U.S. Route 101 passes through the area on the steep Conejo Grade.The mountain was once a large volcano about 14 million years ago, but it has been extinct for millions of years. The mountain was under sea-level at one point. Mining operations have been ongoing here since 1959 and most of the mountain is owned by the Pacific Rock mining operation.The Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy, Pleasant Valley Recreation and Park District and Conejo Open Space Conservation Agency have interest in administrating the area as protected open space. Trails reach into the area from Pepper Tree Playfield and Dos Vientos Community Park via Dos Vientos Open Space in southwestern Newbury Park.

Hickory Park is a neighborhood park at the foothills of the Santa Monica Mountains, less than 500 feet from the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, in southern Newbury Park, California. It is a five-acre park, which includes facilities such as a playground, basketball courts, backstop, barbecue grills, picnic tables, trails, etc.It is one mile from the Satwiwa Native American Indian Culture Center and has numerous hiking trails nearby, including the Backbone Trail, which crosses the Santa Monica Mountains to Point Mugu. The parkland was acquired by the city in 1969 and developed into a park in 1974. Conejo Valley's longest creek, Arroyo Conejo, flows through the southern parts of Hickory Park.
