Cypress Park (Newbury Park)

The Potrero Ridge Open Space is a passive recreation area in the southwestern portion of Newbury Park, CA and the Conejo Valley that encompasses eastern parts of the Potrero Ridge. The open-space area contains a total of 203 acres (82 ha), and is owned and operated by the Conejo Open Space Conservation Agency (COSCA). It is adjacent to the Dos Vientos Open Space in the west, which provides further access to the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area by Satwiwa, as well as the Alta Vista Open Space, Los Vientos Open Space, and Los Robles Trail which leads to Los Robles Open Space in Thousand Oaks, CA and further into Westlake Village.Conejo Valley’s longest creek, the Conejo Creek (Arroyo Conejo) runs through the western parts of the Potrero Ridge Open Space. Some of the fauna here includes mountain lions, bobcats, coyotes, mule deer, golden eagles, American black bears, and reptiles such as the Western pond turtle and freshwater fish species in the Arroyo Conejo. There are more than ten trailheads to access the open-space area, and some of the flora includes oak woodlands, coastal sage scrub and chaparral. It is home to a wide variety of rare or endangered plant species as well, including Verity's liveforever, Conejo dudleya, and Conejo buckwheat. “Potrero” means a farm for rearing horses or pasture ground in Spanish.

Hickory Park is a neighborhood park at the foothills of the Santa Monica Mountains, less than 500 feet from the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, in southern Newbury Park, California. It is a five-acre park, which includes facilities such as a playground, basketball courts, backstop, barbecue grills, picnic tables, trails, etc.It is one mile from the Satwiwa Native American Indian Culture Center and has numerous hiking trails nearby, including the Backbone Trail, which crosses the Santa Monica Mountains to Point Mugu. The parkland was acquired by the city in 1969 and developed into a park in 1974. Conejo Valley's longest creek, Arroyo Conejo, flows through the southern parts of Hickory Park.

Rancho Sierra Vista is one of the last intact ranches from the first half of the twentieth century in the Santa Monica Mountains. The majority of the landscape is much as it was 100 years ago. The area is now owned by the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, a unit of the National Park System. It is home of Satwiwa Native American Indian Culture Center.

Banyan Park is a 7.4 acre community park at the foothills of the Santa Monica Mountains in southern Newbury Park, California. The park is approximately 800 feet from the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area and is adjacent to the Banyan Elementary School. It was the first park to be acquired by the Conejo Recreation & Park District (CRPD) in 1964, and was later developed into a park in 1967. The park includes a hilltop gazebo, turf, picnic tables, barbecues, and playgrounds.The park is home to acres of undeveloped areas, on some which there are plans of creating an amphitheater, sports courts, pathways, benches and landscape features, including butterfly- and hummingbird gardens. The park added four additional acres in 1992. It is located at 3605 Erinlea Avenue in southern Newbury Park.

Borchard Community Park is a public park located in western Newbury Park, CA. Situated adjacent to both the Newbury Park High School and the Borchard Maintenance Shop, the park is situated at the corner of Reino Road and Borchard Road at the foothills of the Santa Monica Mountains. The park encompasses 29 acres, which is home to various courts for recreational sports, fitness area, community rooms, a farm themed playground, picnic areas, several fields, and a skate park. The park was established by the Conejo Recreation & Park District (CRPD) in 1969. It has two volleyball courts, four tennis courts, two stages, three softball fields, a basketball court, barbecue grills, two bocci courts, a gymnasium, horseshoe pits, a kitchen, a soccer field, two playgrounds, and more.To get here from Highway 101, take the Borchard Road/Rancho Conejo Road Exit and go southwest on Borchard Rd. for one mile to the park entrance. It is located at 190 Reino Road in western Newbury Park.There is an undergoing project to create a multiuse pathway along the Arroyo Conejo from the southern parts of the park through Casa Conejo, CA and further to the Newbury Park Library.Near the corner of Borchard- and Reino Roads, where Borchard Community Park is located today, was the home of the pioneer Caspar Borchard family, who owned a large ranch here in 1881–1961.

Satwiwa (Chumash: "the bluffs") was a former Chumash village in the Santa Monica Mountains of Newbury Park, California. The current Satwiwa Native American Indian Culture Center is operated by the National Park Service in cooperation with the Friends of Satwiwa. Satwiwa has been inhabited by Chumash Indians for over 10,000 years. It is situated at the foothills of Boney Mountain, a sacred mountain for the Chumash. Bordering thousands of acres of wilderness in the Santa Monica Mountains, the fauna surrounding Satwiwa includes golden eagles, mountain lions, Valley coyotes, snakes, bobcats, foxes, falcons, and hawks.The main trail from Satwiwa is nicknamed "the backdoor to the Point Mugu State Park". Satwiwa is one of the four primary entrances to the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area.

Newbury Park High School, opened in 1967, is a co-educational public high school located in Newbury Park, California.

Alta Vista Open Space is a 43-acre open-space area in western Newbury Park, California, United States, adjacent to Dos Vientos Open Space and its 1,216 acres of natural open space area and numerous trails. Its primary trail is the Ring Finger Trail, which is reached from its trailhead at the southern side of Calle Alta Vis, directly across the street from Calle Las Collinas. Most of the open-space area is owned by the homeowners association, while eleven acres are owned by the Conejo Open Space Conservation Agency (COSCA). Its flora contain large areas covered with chaparral and coastal sage scrub, while some endangered endemic species include Conejo buckwheat, Verity's dudleya, and Conejo dudleya. It functions as a crucial wildlife corridor into the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area through Point Mugu State Park. Some of the fauna here includes Mountain lions, coyotes, mule deer, bobcats, and more.Adjacent to more than 16,000 acres of natural open-space areas, Alta Vista Open Space contains numerous internal and regional trail connections, connecting for instance to the Conejo Mountain, Potrero Ridge Open Space, Los Vientos Open Space, Boney Mountain, Satwiwa (Rancho Sierra Vista), Point Mugu State Park, the Conejo Hills, and the Santa Monica Mountains.

Dos Vientos Community Park in southwestern Newbury Park, CA is the largest of Conejo Recreation & Park District’s public parks in the Conejo Valley. It is adjacent to the Dos Vientos Community Center, which offers a preschool, sports, and other activities. The park contains sand volleyball courts, baseball-, basketball- and tennis courts, soccer fields, playground areas, and picnic tables and barbecue grills. It is adjacent to the Dos Vientos Open Space through the Park View Trail, which is a 1,216 acre natural open-space, bordering an additional 16,000 acres of open space stretching over the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area to the Pacific Ocean. The Park View Trail ends at Via Ricardo, directly across the road from the Powerline Trail and Dos Vientos Open Space. Another trail from the Dos Vientos Community Park, the Edison Trail (Powerline Trail), leads to the 2,200 feet high Conejo Mountain in Camarillo, CA. This trail offers panoramic views of the Oxnard Plain, the Pacific Ocean, numerous Channel Islands, Boney Mountain, Mugu Lagoon, and the Topa Topa Mountains. The trails here are utilized by equestrians, hikers, joggers, and mountain bikers. Recreational activities in Dos Vientos Community park includes basketball, handball, tennis, football, softball, lacrosse, skating, baseball, soccer, volleyball, badminton, and more.To get here from the Ventura Freeway (U.S. 101), take Exit Borchard Road in Newbury Park, CA and drive south onto Borchard Road for 3.5 miles. The main trailhead follows the dirt path along the fence that follows Borchard Road southbound for 300 feet. At the split in the fence, make a right going through the split and up the hills located behind Dos Vientos Community Park. The address is 4801 Borchard Road.

Deer Ridge Open Space is a 188-acre public-owned open-space area in the southwest portion of the town of Newbury Park, California. It contains a series of north-facing mountainous ridges and canyons, dominated by chaparral and oak trees. It shares borders with the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area to the south, and the Los Robles Trail traverses the length of Deer Ridge Open Space. Its main trailhead is located on Potrero Road, while a smaller access point is located at the southern end of Felton Street. The Los Robles Trail is the Conejo Open Space Conservation Agency’s longest trail, and connects to open-space areas and parks such as the Los Padres Open Space, Conejo Ridge Open Space, Hope Nature Preserve, Old Conejo Open Space, and the Los Vientos Open Space. The trail in Newbury Park provides panoramic views of the Conejo Valley and Santa Monica Mountains, before entering the Hope Nature Preserve. The Los Robles Trail provides more than 25 miles of contiguous trails connecting Newbury Park to Westlake Village in Los Angeles County. Immediately south of the Deer Ridge Open Space in Newbury Park are the Hidden Valley and Rancho Sierra Vista Satwiwa.The trails are utilized by hikers, mountain bikers, equestrians, and for jogging or running. It is part of a Southern California wildlife corridor that also links through trails to the Point Mugu State Park and the oceanfront Santa Monica Mountains. Some of the fauna includes the American black bear, Mountain lion, Coyote, Grey fox, Mule deer, Bobcat, Southern Pacific Rattlesnake, Stripe-tailed scorpion, and much more. The flora consists of various Chaparral, Coastal sage scrub, and pockets of oak woodlands. The Los Robles Trail is the main trail in the Deer Ridge Open Space and follows the east-west ridge to the Hope Nature Preserve, and beyond to Thousand Oaks, CA. The trail provides panoramic views of the Santa Monica Mountains to the right, while the high elevation makes for great overlooks of Newbury Park on the left side of the trail. It leads to the 1,600-foot high Angel Vista in the Ventu Park Open Space after transversing the Deer Ridge in southern Newbury Park.To get here from the Ventura Freeway (U.S. 101), exit at Wendy Drive and head south towards the Santa Monica Mountains. When the road ends in front of the trailheads to the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area on the opposite side of the intersection, make a left on Potrero Road and follow the road for 0.5 miles until the trailhead parking lot appears on the left side of the street.

Rabbit Hill, also referred to as Knoll Hill, is a 797-foot high hill (243 m) located in Knoll Park (also known as Knoll Open Space), which is among the highest peaks in Newbury Park, California that are not parts of the Santa Monica Mountains. It is reached from a trailhead on North Reino Road, just across the road from the Pepper Tree Playfields, which provides hikers to Rabbit Hill with parking spaces. The sloping Knoll Trail (Pepper Tree Vista Trail) goes from N. Reino Rd. to the top of the knoll, which offers panoramic views of Newbury Park, Casa Conejo, Boney Mountain, Thousand Oaks and Conejo Mountain. The total park area is 21 acres (8.5 ha) including the hill, which is covered with coastal sage scrub and grassland.

Pepper Tree Playfield is a 21.7-acre community park located in western Newbury Park, California. It is located at the corner of Reino and Old Conejo Roads, and was acquired by the Conejo Recreation & Park District (CRPD) in 1977, but not developed nor opened until 1983. It contains a 0.83-mile fitness trail loop, and is nearby numerous trailheads. The park is within walking distance from the Conejo Vista Trailhead in Old Conejo Open Space, located immediately north of Pepper Tree Playfield, and the park is directly across the street from the Knoll Trailhead (Pepper Tree Vista Trail) in Knoll Open Space, which is to the park’s immediate east, crossing North Reino Road. It is also an access point for trails leading to the Conejo Mountain. Pepper Tree Playfield is named for its many pepper trees, which surrounds the park area. The park is managed by the Conejo Recreation & Park District (CRPD), It contains three parking stalls, bleacher seating for 120, picnic tables and structures, a playground, four soccer fields, and two softball fields. The park is used for a variety of recreational activities, including but not limited to hiking, football, softball, cross country running, soccer, camping, running, and bird observation.Pepper Tree Playfield, along with Dos Vientos Community Park, is home to American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) Region 42 (Newbury Park) and draws hundreds of players and spectators during the AYSO season, with fields here utilized for games on weekends during half of the year beginning in September.To get here from the Ventura Freeway in Newbury Park, CA, take the Exit for Wendy Drive. If coming from Los Angeles, turn left from the off-ramp onto Wendy Dr. then turn right immediately over the bridge on Old Conejo Road at the Mobil Station. If coming from Ventura/Santa Barbara, proceed straight from the off-ramp; this will place you on Old Conejo Road. After one mile, park at Pepper Tree Playfield. It is situated at 3720 Old Conejo Road.
