Woods Hole (passage)

Nonamesset Island is the most easterly of the Elizabeth Islands of Dukes County, Massachusetts, United States. The island has a land area of 1.398 km² (0.54 sq mi or 345.5 acres) and was uninhabited as of the 2000 census. The island is part of the town of Gosnold, Massachusetts. Painter Robert Swain Gifford was born on the island in 1840.

The Woods Hole Science Aquarium (WHSA) is a small public aquarium in Woods Hole, Massachusetts, United States. It is owned by the US government and operated by the National Marine Fisheries Service and the Marine Biological Laboratory.

The Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL) is an international center for research and education in biological and environmental science. Founded in Woods Hole, Massachusetts, in 1888, the MBL is a private, nonprofit institution that was independent for most of its history, but became officially affiliated with the University of Chicago on July 1, 2013. It also collaborates with numerous other institutions. As of 2023, 60 Nobel Prize winners have been affiliated with MBL as students, faculty members or researchers. In addition, since 1960, there have been 137 Howard Hughes Medical Institute investigators, early career scientists, international researchers, and professors; 306 members of the National Academy of Sciences; and 236 Members of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences who have been affiliated with the lab.

The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI, acronym pronounced HOO-ee) is a private, nonprofit research and higher education facility dedicated to the study of marine science and engineering. Established in 1930 in Woods Hole, Massachusetts, it is the largest independent oceanographic research institution in the U.S., with staff and students numbering about 1,000.

Woods Hole station was a station on the Old Colony Railroad located in the village of Woods Hole in the town of Falmouth, Massachusetts. It served as the terminus for the railroad's branch line to Woods Hole and offered ferry connections to Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket.

The Woods Hole School is a historic school building at 24 School Street in Woods Hole, Massachusetts, United States within the town of Falmouth, Massachusetts. The school was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. It is a two-story wood-frame structure, with a gable roof capped by a two-stage cupola with belfry. A gabled two-story section projects to the front, with a shed-roof porch sheltering the entry to its side. It has trim bands extending around the building at the tops and bottoms of its windows. The building, the second school built on the site, was built as a two-room structure in 1870, and enlarged to four classrooms in 1885. The architect for the expansion was Samuel D. Kelley and the contractor was Mead, Mason & Company of Concord, New Hampshire.In the summer, the Woods Hole School is the home of the Children's School of Science. In the winter, the Woods Hole School is the home of the Woods Hole Daycare Cooperative.

United States Coast Guard Station Woods Hole is a United States Coast Guard station located in Woods Hole, Massachusetts. The station is home to Sector Southeast New England.

Cedar Island is one of the Elizabeth Islands between Monohansett Island and Nonamesset Island. It is located in Dukes County, Massachusetts, 2.3 miles (3.7 km) southwest of Woods Hole in the Town of Gosnold. The island has been known as Cedar Island due to the profusion of small cedars that grow on it. On 1911 C&GS Charts it is named "East Buck Island".

Veckatimest Island is one of the Elizabeth Islands, part of the town of Gosnold in Dukes County, Massachusetts, United States. It used to be known as "East Buck." The island has a land area of 0.0675 square kilometres (0.0261 sq mi; 16.7 acres) and was uninhabited as of the 2000 census.The island received further recognition after Brooklyn band Grizzly Bear named their third studio album after it. The band's founding member, Ed Droste, is connected to the Forbes family, who own Naushon Island, through his mother Diana Forbes.

Bull Island is one of the Elizabeth Islands between Nonamesset Island and Uncatena Island, it separates Hadley Harbor from Inner Harbor. Bull Island is located in Dukes County, Massachusetts in the Town of Gosnold.

Woods Hole is a census-designated place in the town of Falmouth in Barnstable County, Massachusetts, United States. It lies at the extreme southwest corner of Cape Cod, near Martha's Vineyard and the Elizabeth Islands. The population was 781 at the 2010 census. The eminent Hungarian born biochemist and Nobel prize laureate, Albert Imre Szent-Györgyi de Nagyrápolt died here in 1986. It is the site of several marine science institutions, including Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, the Marine Biological Laboratory, the Woodwell Climate Research Center, NOAA's Northeast Fisheries Science Center (which started the Woods Hole scientific community in 1871), the Woods Hole Science Aquarium, a USGS coastal and marine geology center, and the home campus of the Sea Education Association. It is also the site of United States Coast Guard Sector Southeastern New England (formerly USCG Group Woods Hole), the Nobska Light lighthouse, and the terminus of the Steamship Authority ferry route between Cape Cod and the island of Martha's Vineyard.
