Strathmartine

Balgowan is an area of Dundee, Scotland. The name derives from the Scottish Gaelic Baile Ghobhainn, meaning "blacksmith's stead" (cf also Govan in Glasgow from the same Celtic root).

Strathmartine Hospital was a health facility in Craigmaill Road, Strathmartine, Angus, Scotland. It was managed by NHS Tayside. It remains a Category B listed building.

Baldovan railway station, later renamed Baldovan and Downfield, served the northern suburbs of Dundee around Strathmartine, including Bridgefoot, Downfield and Baldovan, in the Scottish county of Angus. Services were provided by the Dundee and Newtyle Railway.

Downfield Football Club are a Scottish junior football club based in the Downfield area of Dundee. Their home ground is Downfield Park.

Baldragon Academy is a six-year comprehensive in the Kirkton area of the city of Dundee, Scotland. It was originally named Kirkton High School until merging with Rockwell High School in August 1997. The school is set in over 20 acres (8.1 ha) of its own grounds. The school has around 1000 pupils and serves the Kirkton, Trottick, St Mary's and Ardler areas of Dundee. This area consists of a mixture of authority and privately owned housing. The feeder primary schools are Sidlaw View, Downfield, Craigowl, Ardler and Strathmartine Primary Schools.

Downfield is a residential area located in the north of Dundee, Scotland, centred on the stretch of the Strathmartine Road between the Kingsway and the northern boundary of Dundee. The area is bordered by St Marys and Ardler to the west, Kirkton to the east and Fairmuir to the south. Downfield is sometimes considered to be part of the neighbouring areas, although Downfield is retained in the name of the local parish "Downfield South", and by the bus route which services the area. It also had a local railway station, Baldovan railway station, later known as Baldovan and Downfield railway station, on the former Dundee and Newtyle Railway.

Baldragon railway station served the village of Baldragon in the Scottish county of Angus. Services were provided by the Dundee and Newtyle Railway.

Lawside Academy was a Roman Catholic secondary school in Dundee, Scotland. It was the northernmost state Catholic school in Europe. Lawside closed in June 2008, 101 years after it opened. The school's successor is St Paul's Academy.

Kirkton is a residential housing scheme located in the north of Dundee. The area is bordered by Downfield to the west, Trottick to the east and Fairmuir to the south.

Bridgefoot, previously called Kirkton of Strathmartine, is a village in Angus, Scotland. It lies approximately one mile north of Dundee, to the west of Strathmartine Hospital. It is said that a boulder to the North of the village marks the spot where a dragon died.

St Mary's is in a residential area of Dundee located in the extreme northwest of the city, to the north of Ardler and west of Kirkton. It is also bounded on the west by Downfield Golf Club, to the northwest by Clatto Country Park and to the north by Craigowl View. The scheme was built on farmland during the late 1940s, 1950s and 1960s as part of the city's attempt to create new council housing for working-class Dundonians following the end of the Second World War. All of the scheme's streets, bar two on the periphery (listed below) begin with the prefix 'St'. The area suffers from the same social and economic problem that plague some of the other housing schemes of Dundee, however the improvement of housing standards and the demolition of tower blocks in the Ardler/St Mary's region has improved the area.

Ardler is an area in the north-west of Dundee, Scotland, built on land previously owned by Downfield Golf Club. The housing scheme was completed in the late 1960s and originally included six 17-storey multi-storey blocks that formed the northern part of the scheme. These were demolished between 1993 and 2007 as part of a major programme of regeneration due to finish in 2011.
