Newton, South Lanarkshire

Drumsagard Village is a new construction village in Cambuslang, South Lanarkshire. It is built around the site of Drumsagard Castle and immediately south of the site of Hallside Steelworks, also known as the Cambuslang Iron and Steel Works. One of the first facilities of their kind and eventually extending over an area of around 33 acres, the steelworks were established in 1873 and closed in 1979.

Newton railway station is a railway station located between the neighbourhoods of Drumsagard, Halfway, Newton and Westburn in the town of Cambuslang (Greater Glasgow), Scotland. The station is managed by ScotRail on the Argyle and Cathcart Circle Lines.

On 21 July 1991, two commuter trains crashed just west of Newton railway station in Cambuslang, near Glasgow, Scotland. The junction had been remodelled in the month previous to the crash.

The North Calder Water is a river in North Lanarkshire, Scotland. It flows for 12 miles (19 km) from the Black Loch (in the Falkirk council area) via the Hillend Reservoir, Caldercruix, Plains, Airdrie, Calderbank, Carnbroe and Viewpark to the River Clyde at Daldowie, south-east of Glasgow. For the last 2 miles (3.2 km) of its course, it forms part of the boundary between North Lanarkshire (near to Birkenshaw) and Glasgow (near to Broomhouse). The name Calder is thought to be Brythonic and to mean 'hard cold flowing' water. In addition to Caldercruix and Calderbank settlements, the river is referenced in man-made features near its course, including Caldervale High School in Airdrie, Calderbraes Golf Club near Birkenshaw, Calderview Community Centre in Coatbridge, and the former Calderbank House and Calderpark Zoo at Broomhouse.

The lands of Daldowie in Glasgow, Scotland lie astride the River Clyde on the south and the North Calder Water to the east (marking the boundary with South Lanarkshire), and stretch to the present area of Broomhouse in the north (on the opposite side of the M74 motorway, with both areas served by Junction 3A). Daldowie Crematorium was constructed in 1952 by Lanarkshire County Council and opened in 1955, on the grounds of the historic Daldowie House - home of the Stewarts of Minto and George Bogle of Daldowie. His son, George Bogle the younger made an expedition to Tibet as the first British envoy to China. An elegant house was built in the 1730s and extended in the 1830s by a local ironmaster, John Dixon; of which only the dovecote survived. It was one of a string of estates strung out along the River Clyde - from Dalmarnock, through Westthorn and Dalbeth to Easterhill, which went from being country seats in the 18th century, through an exploitation of their iron and coal deposits in the 19th century, to the commercial and residential uses which predominate today - aside from the crematorium and its garden grounds, the area is now dominated by a waste water treatment works including a waste-to-fuel facility which produces biomass briquettes from the sewage solids.

Westburn is a district of the town of Cambuslang in South Lanarkshire, Scotland. It was formerly home to a steel works and power station which were the area's major employers; the sites are now occupied by a housing development and modern industrial estate respectively. Administratively, Westburn is within the Cambuslang East ward of the South Lanarkshire Council area and has a population of around 2,000.

Broomhouse railway station was opened in 1883 at Broomhouse in the Baillieston area of Glasgow, Scotland on the old Glasgow, Bothwell, Hamilton and Coatbridge Railway between Shettleston and Hamilton. The miner's rows at Boghall were close to the station site.

The Daldowie Dovecot is a Category A listed dovecote in Glasgow, Scotland. It was built in the mid-18th century on the north bank of the River Clyde, in the grounds of the former Daldowie House estate. It stood isolated for several decades within the grounds of Daldowie Sewage Works, and was dismantled and re-erected in its present location on the A74 Hamilton Road (south of Mount Vernon) in 2000, at a cost of £500,000.

The A724 road in Scotland runs within South Lanarkshire between Rutherglen and Hamilton. It follows an ancient route which is marked on William Roy's Lowland Map of Scotland (1755) with only minor deviations from its modern course.

Mount Vernon railway station is a railway station located in the Mount Vernon area of Glasgow, Scotland. It is on the Whifflet Line (a branch of the more extensive Argyle Line), 6+3⁄4 miles (10.9 km) east of Glasgow Central. Train services are provided by ScotRail.

Broomhouse (Scots: Bruimhoose) is a residential area in Glasgow, Scotland. It is about 6 miles (10 km) east of the city centre. Historically a small mining village and later the site of the Glasgow Zoo, in the early 21st century it grew substantially as an affluent commuter suburb. Although close to Baillieston and within the Glasgow boundaries, the neighbourhood has a G71 postcode which has often led to it being associated with Uddingston, the main town for that district which is about 1+1⁄2 miles (2.4 km) to the south-east in the South Lanarkshire local authority area.

Calderpark Halt railway station or Calderpark for Glasgow Zoo (NS679625) served Calderpark Zoo opened in 1947 on the old estate of Calderpark and the Baillieston area of Glasgow, Scotland on the Glasgow, Bothwell, Hamilton and Coatbridge Railway between Shettleston and Hamilton. Glasgow Zoo closed in 2003.
