Newton railway station

Drumsagard Village is a new construction village in Cambuslang, South Lanarkshire. It is built around the site of Drumsagard Castle and immediately south of the site of Hallside Steelworks, also known as the Cambuslang Iron and Steel Works. One of the first facilities of their kind and eventually extending over an area of around 33 acres, the steelworks were established in 1873 and closed in 1979.

On 21 July 1991, two commuter trains crashed just west of Newton railway station in Cambuslang, near Glasgow, Scotland. The junction had been remodelled in the month previous to the crash.

Newton is a mainly residential district in the town of Cambuslang in Scotland; it is situated directly south of the River Clyde. Newton is within the Cambuslang East ward of the South Lanarkshire Council area. Formerly a mining settlement from the mid-19th to mid-20th centuries then sparsely populated for several decades, in the early 2000s it was designated a 'Community Growth Area' for residential development with several hundred houses, a new primary school (and a larger rebuild of an existing school) and associated infrastructure constructed in phases over several years into the 2020s, mostly on fields previously used by a farm which had operated for several centuries before closing around the turn of the 21st century. Newton railway station is a terminus on the Greater Glasgow suburban railway, the lines for which form the southern boundary of the area (the Drumsagard neighbourhood is on the opposite side). To the west, Newton and the neighbouring village of Westburn are divided by the small Newton Burn, and to the east it is separated from farmland belonging to the town of Blantyre by the Rotten Calder river which flows into the Clyde.

Westburn is a district of the town of Cambuslang in South Lanarkshire, Scotland. It was formerly home to a steel works and power station which were the area's major employers; the sites are now occupied by a housing development and modern industrial estate respectively. Administratively, Westburn is within the Cambuslang East ward of the South Lanarkshire Council area and has a population of around 2,000.

Halfway is a largely suburban area in the town of Cambuslang, Scotland, located within the local authority area of South Lanarkshire. It borders the smaller areas of Lightburn, Cairns, Flemington, Drumsagard and Hallside. Halfway is the largest component of the Cambuslang East ward of South Lanarkshire Council which has an overall population of around 16,000.

Westburn Viaduct, also known as Carmyle Viaduct, is a disused railway bridge over the River Clyde between Carmyle in Glasgow (north side) and Westburn (Cambuslang) in South Lanarkshire (south side). It is constructed of a steel lattice frame with sandstone pillars and has three main spans over the water. The bridge was constructed in 1897 as part of the Glasgow Central Railway between Carmyle and Newton stations and linked to the Rutherglen and Coatbridge Railway. A further connection towards Kirkhill on the Lanarkshire and Ayrshire Railway was made in 1904. The passenger train services using the bridge ended in 1964, although freight services, mostly serving Clydebridge Steelworks and Clyde Iron Works, continued until 1983 when those facilities ceased operating.The bridge was officially closed and fenced-off, although for some years it was still accessible to pedestrians determined enough to overcome the barriers. After gang disorder involving youths from Westburn and Carmyle escalated into serious violence in 2012, the barriers were further reinforced to prevent the bridge being used by the youths to approach their rivals’ territory. Between 2013 and 2015 a project to add illumination to the bridge developed with input by pupils from local schools (Bannerman HS, Trinity HS and Cathkin HS) in an effort to build bonds between the communities on either side of the bridge.In early 2021, Sustrans Scotland announced a project to refurbish the bridge as a walking and cycling route across the river, inviting consultation from locals (with some residents on both sides objecting to the plans due to the recent history of violence associated with the route being accessible to rival youths).

Mount Vernon railway station is a railway station located in the Mount Vernon area of Glasgow, Scotland. It is on the Whifflet Line (a branch of the more extensive Argyle Line), 6+3⁄4 miles (10.9 km) east of Glasgow Central. Train services are provided by ScotRail.

The North Calder Water is a river in North Lanarkshire, Scotland. It flows for 12 miles (19 km) from the Black Loch (in the Falkirk council area) via the Hillend Reservoir, Caldercruix, Plains, Airdrie, Calderbank, Carnbroe and Viewpark to the River Clyde at Daldowie, south-east of Glasgow. For the last 2 miles (3.2 km) of its course, it forms part of the boundary between North Lanarkshire (near to Birkenshaw) and Glasgow (near to Broomhouse). The name Calder is thought to be Brythonic and to mean 'hard cold flowing' water. In addition to Caldercruix and Calderbank settlements, the river is referenced in man-made features near its course, including Caldervale High School in Airdrie, Calderbraes Golf Club near Birkenshaw, Calderview Community Centre in Coatbridge, and the former Calderbank House and Calderpark Zoo at Broomhouse.

The Daldowie Dovecot is a Category A listed dovecote in Glasgow, Scotland. It was built in the mid-18th century on the north bank of the River Clyde, in the grounds of the former Daldowie House estate. It stood isolated for several decades within the grounds of Daldowie Sewage Works, and was dismantled and re-erected in its present location on the A74 Hamilton Road (south of Mount Vernon) in 2000, at a cost of £500,000.

Cambuslang Hibernian F.C., also known as the Cambuslang Hibs, was a football club based in the town of Cambuslang, Scotland which was founded in 1884 and dissolved in 1908. They competed in regional competitions and the Scottish Cup during the 1880s, and after turning Junior, they won the Scottish Junior Cup in 1896.

The A724 road in Scotland runs within South Lanarkshire between Rutherglen and Hamilton. It follows an ancient route which is marked on William Roy's Lowland Map of Scotland (1755) with only minor deviations from its modern course.

Carmyle (; Scottish Gaelic: An Càrn Maol) is a suburb in the east end of Glasgow, Scotland, directly north of the River Clyde. It is in an isolated location separated from the main urban area of the city and has the characteristics of a semi-rural village. Administratively, Carmyle falls under the Shettleston ward of Glasgow City Council.
