St Athan railway station was a railway station in South Wales.

Llantwit Major (Welsh: Llanilltud Fawr) is a town and community in Wales on the Bristol Channel coast. It is one of four towns in the Vale of Glamorgan, with the third largest population (13,366 in 2001) after Barry and Penarth, and ahead of Cowbridge. It is 4+1⁄2 miles (7.2 km) from Cowbridge, 9 miles (14 km) from Bridgend, 10 miles (16 km) from Barry, and 15 miles (24 km) from Cardiff. It had a population of 9,530 in 2021. Llanilltud Fawr, named for the Llan of Saint Illtud, was home to the Monastery of Illtud and the college known as Bangor Illtyd. It became one of the most esteemed centres of Christian culture in the Celtic world. At its peak it had over 2,000 students, including princes, eminent clergymen, and revered saints. The institutions were destroyed by the raiding Vikings in 987, but Normans rebuilt the monastery in 1111 and it continued to be a centre of learning until it was disbanded in 1539 during the Dissolution of the Monasteries. The 13th-century St Illtyd's Church, near the ancient monastery, is a Grade I listed building and one of Wales' oldest parish churches. In the 20th century, the modern town developed rapidly to accommodate Royal Air Force personnel from the St Athan base. Remnants of the medieval cobbled streets can be seen adjacent to 12th century Old Swan Inn; and numerous buildings of the 15th and 16th centuries remain. Colhugh Beach is a popular surfing venue and has the remnants of an Iron Age fort and some of Wales' finest examples of Jurassic Period fossils. The pebble beach and its clifftops are protected by the Glamorgan Heritage Coast, which stretches for 14 miles (23 km) from Gileston to the east to Southerndown and Newton Point to the west.

Llantwit Major School is a school in the town of Llantwit Major in the Vale of Glamorgan, on the coast of south Wales. The school consists of a separate primary and secondary school which are located on the same site. A large section of the comprehensive was burned to the ground in 1991 and rebuilt a year later. A further rebuild was scheduled to begin 2011/2012 but was scrapped due to lack of funding. A new building broke ground in September 2015 and was completed at the end of February 2017. Demolition of the old blocks has since been completed. It shares its site with primary school Ysgol y Ddraig. The school's departmental success in both sport and drama is renowned over much of the Vale, having won awards and acclaim for both. The current headteacher is Charlotte Robins. The school was temporarily closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the United Kingdom on 20 March 2020, re-opening on 4 September 2020.

Llanmaes (Welsh: Llanfaes) is a small village and community in the Vale of Glamorgan near the market town of Llantwit Major. The population in 2011 was 403.

Llantwit Major AFC are a Welsh football club formed in 1962 and are based in the town of Llantwit Major, Vale of Glamorgan, South East Wales. They currently play in the Cymru South, and in 2021–22 finished as league champions.

Llantwit Major railway station is a railway station serving the small town of Llantwit Major, South Wales. It is located on the Vale of Glamorgan Line, 18+1⁄4 miles (29.4 km) west of Cardiff Central towards Bridgend via Barry and Rhoose. The present station opened on 12 June 2005, when passenger services were restored on the section of line between Barry and Bridgend. Passenger services are operated by Transport for Wales as part of the Valleys & Cardiff Local Routes network.

Ministry of Defence St Athan or MOD St Athan (Welsh: Maes awyr Sain Tathan), formerly known as Royal Air Force St Athan, or more simply RAF St Athan, is a large Ministry of Defence unit near the village of St Athan in the Vale of Glamorgan, southern Wales. The base has been home to the RAF No. 4 School of Technical Training throughout its life, as well as a major aircraft maintenance unit. St Athan has also been used to house British Army units, including the 1st Battalion, Welsh Guards. At one time it was home to a large collection of historical aircraft. The only squadron to operate out of St Athan on a regular basis is the Universities of Wales Air Squadron (one of fourteen RAF University Air Squadrons), flying Grob Tutors. 2300 Squadron of the Air Training Corps is also located on the Station. Between May 1947 and August 1973, St Athan was also home for the Administrative Apprentice Training School, which provided a 20-month training programme for boys who enlisted to become clerks or work in accounting, supply and administration, prior to posting to other RAF units for a 12-year term of service.St Athan was the designated site for the United Kingdom's new defence training academy, but the programme was cancelled in 2010. The airfield part of the site was transferred from military to civilian control on 1 April 2019. It is now owned by the Welsh Government and known as Bro Tathan airfield, and is home to Bro Tathan Business Park. MOD St Athan continues to exist, comprising the barracks area which is adjacent to the airfield.

Frampton is a hamlet in the Vale of Glamorgan in South Wales. It lies within the parish of Llantwit Major, to the north of the town off the B4265 road, 4.25 miles (6.84 km) south-southwest of Cowbridge. It is divided into Little Frampton and Great Frampton.

Llantwit Major Town Hall (Welsh: Neuadd y Dref Llanilltud Fawr) is a local government administrative building dating back to the late 15th century, in the town of Llantwit Major in the Vale of Glamorgan, Wales. It is a Grade II* listed building.

The South Wales Aviation Museum (SWAM) is an aviation museum in Bro Tathan North, St Athan, Vale of Glamorgan, Wales on part of the former MOD St Athan. It was set up to preserve the aviation history of South Wales, UK.

St Illtyd's Church is a church complex in Llantwit Major, Vale of Glamorgan, southeast Wales. It is located at the site of the oldest college in the United Kingdom, once believed to have been founded as Côr Tewdws c. AD 395 by the Roman Emperor Theodosius II. It is now generally accepted as having been founded by St. Illtud c. AD 508, from whom it derives its name. The current church building was built in the 11th century by the Normans, with portions being rebuilt in the 13th and 15th centuries. The church building is one of the oldest and best-known parish churches in Wales. It is a grade I listed building, or building of exceptional interest, and has been called both the "Westminster Abbey of Wales" for its unique collection of carved stones and effigies, and "the most beautiful church in Wales." The parish is currently part of the Rectorial Benefice of Llantwit Major in the Diocese of Llandaff.

Eglwys Brewis is a village in the Vale of Glamorgan in south Wales. It is located just to the north of the village of St Athan, south of Flemingston and northeast of Llantwit Major. Greenlands and St Mary Church lie to the north by road from Eglwys Brewis. The village consists primarily of residential estates which were originally built in the mid-20th century for service families stationed at nearby RAF St Athan. The estates are regularly used by driving instructors in the Vale of Glamorgan. Nant y Stepsau flows in the vicinity.
