Ministry of Defence St Athan or MOD St Athan (Welsh: Maes awyr Sain Tathan), formerly known as Royal Air Force St Athan, or more simply RAF St Athan, is a large Ministry of Defence unit near the village of St Athan in the Vale of Glamorgan, southern Wales. The base has been home to the RAF No. 4 School of Technical Training throughout its life, as well as a major aircraft maintenance unit. St Athan has also been used to house British Army units, including the 1st Battalion, Welsh Guards. At one time it was home to a large collection of historical aircraft. The only squadron to operate out of St Athan on a regular basis is the Universities of Wales Air Squadron (one of fourteen RAF University Air Squadrons), flying Grob Tutors. 2300 Squadron of the Air Training Corps is also located on the Station. Between May 1947 and August 1973, St Athan was also home for the Administrative Apprentice Training School, which provided a 20-month training programme for boys who enlisted to become clerks or work in accounting, supply and administration, prior to posting to other RAF units for a 12-year term of service.St Athan was the designated site for the United Kingdom's new defence training academy, but the programme was cancelled in 2010. The airfield part of the site was transferred from military to civilian control on 1 April 2019. It is now owned by the Welsh Government and known as Bro Tathan airfield, and is home to Bro Tathan Business Park. MOD St Athan continues to exist, comprising the barracks area which is adjacent to the airfield.

The South Wales Aviation Museum (SWAM) is an aviation museum in Bro Tathan North, St Athan, Vale of Glamorgan, Wales on part of the former MOD St Athan. It was set up to preserve the aviation history of South Wales, UK.

The Vale of Glamorgan (Welsh: Bro Morgannwg [ˈbroː mɔrˈɡanʊɡ]), often referred to as The Vale, is a county borough in the south-east of Wales. It borders Bridgend County Borough to the west, Cardiff to the east, Rhondda Cynon Taf to the north, and the Bristol Channel to the south. East Camp is an Ex-MOD housing estate opposite the MOD St Athan main east entrance within St Athan. The housing estate sits between the village of St Athan and Flemingston but does not constitute a village itself. It falls under the Flemingston & Eglwys Brewis electoral ward.Due to it being Ex-MOD property there are some particular arrangements regarding build and service supply to the properties. The Sewage is handled by Kelda Water Services (Defence) Limited and fresh water, management of the private parking, street lighting and areas of play is handled by a society called the East Vale Residents Co. Ltd. who outsource to Cadarn, the parent group of Newydd Housing Association.East Camp houses a Food Bank.The St Athan Golf Club is to the rear (east) of East Camp, next to a disused running track.1st St Athan Scout Group meet at East Camp, mainly at The Gathering Place.

Flemingston (Welsh: Lanmihangel y Twyn, or Treffelemin) (previously known in English as Michaelston Le Mont, Flimston or Flimstone) is a small village in the Vale of Glamorgan in south Wales. It is located 8.5 miles (13.7 km) northwest by road from the town centre of Barry. It contains the Church of St. Michael the Archangel, the ruins of Flemingston Court, and Flemingston Manor or Grange, all of which are listed buildings. Historically, the parish of Flemingston was a sub-manor of Aberthaw or St Athan.

St Athan (Welsh: Sain Tathan) is a village and community in the Vale of Glamorgan in South Wales. The village and its parish church are dedicated to Saint Tathan. The church dates to the 13th–14th century, though an earlier church was dated to the Norman period. The village and the adjacent dormitory village of Eglwys Brewis are known primarily for the MOD St Athan RAF base. There are two pubs in the village, as well as a football team at St Athan Football Club and the St Athan Golf Club. The community includes West Aberthaw.

St Tathan's Church is a medieval church in St. Athan, in the Vale of Glamorgan, Wales. It is dedicated to Saint Tathan. The building's origins are probably 12th century, but there is little evidence of any 12th-century fabric remaining. The external features are from the 13th and 14th centuries, with 19th century restorations and additions. Inside, there are elaborate monuments to Sir William de Berkerolles (died 1329) and his wife Phelice de Vere, and to his son Sir Roger de Berkerolles (died 1351) and his wife Katherine Turberville de Coity. The font is an unusual tulip-shaped design and is possibly 13th century. There are six bells.The church became a grade I listed building in 1963. In 2007, it received £58,400 from the Heritage Lottery Fund.In 2016, three children ages 15, 13, and 10 were arrested on vandalism charges. Police concluded it "...was not a hate crime against any religious belief, but simply mindless vandalism with no motivation behind it..."

Gileston railway station served the village of Gileston in South Wales.

Llanfair is a community in the Vale of Glamorgan, Wales. It is located immediately south of the town of Cowbridge and includes the settlements of St Hilary, Llandough, St Mary Church (Welsh: Llan-fair) and The Herberts. The population in 2011 was 611.Llanfair has a community council comprising eight councillors, who meet regularly at St Hilary Village Hall. For elections to the Vale of Glamorgan Council the community is part of the Cowbridge electoral ward. Buildings of note in Llanfair include Old Beaupre Castle near St Hilary, which is Grade I listed and Llandough Castle which is Grade II* listed. St Hilary's parish church is also Grade II* listed.

Gileston Manor is a manor and country house located next to St Giles' Church in the small village of Gileston near St Athan, Vale of Glamorgan, Wales.

Old Beaupre Castle (Welsh: Hen Gastell y Bewpyr; also known as Beaupre Castle, Old Beaupre Manor, or simply Beaupre) is a ruined medieval fortified manor house located in the community of Llanfair, outside Cowbridge in Wales. It is known in historic documents under the names Beawpire, Bewerpere, Bewpyr and Y Bewpur. It is a Grade I listed building and is under the care of Cadw. It can be visited free of charge all year round by members of the public. The gardens are designated Grade II on the Cadw/ICOMOS Register of Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest in Wales.

Gileston (Welsh: Silstwn) is a small Welsh village near West Aberthaw in the Vale of Glamorgan on the coast of South Wales.
