West Townshend Stone Arch Bridge

West Townshend is an unincorporated village in Townshend, Vermont, United States. It is on the north side of a bend in the West River, upriver of the Townshend Dam. The entire village is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the West Townshend Village Historic District. Its ZIP codes are 05359 and 05353.

Townshend Dam is a dam in Townshend, Windham County, Vermont. The earthen dam was constructed in 1961 by the United States Army Corps of Engineers with a height of 126 feet and a length of 1700 feet at its crest. It impounds Vermont's West River for flood control and seasonal storm water management. The dam is owned and operated by the Corps of Engineers. Its National ID number is VT00004. The riverine reservoir it creates, Townshend Lake, has a normal water surface of 95 acres, a maximum storage capacity of 54,300 acre-feet, and a normal storage capacity of 800 acre-feet. Recreation includes fishing (for smallmouth bass, brown and rainbow trout), boating and hiking, along with facilities at the nearby Townshend State Park.

The Follett Stone Arch Bridge Historic District encompasses a group of four stone arch bridges in southwestern Townshend, Vermont. All four bridges were built by James Otis Follett, a local self-taught mason, between 1894 and 1910, and represent the single greatest concentration of surviving bridges he built. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.

Scott Covered Bridge is a covered bridge spanning the West River in Townshend, Vermont. Built in 1870, it is at 277 feet (84 m) one of the longest covered bridges in the state (the West Dummerston Covered Bridge is longer), exhibiting three different forms of support: a Town lattice truss, kingpost trusses, and laminated arches. The bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. It is closed to all traffic.

The First Congregational Church and Meetinghouse, also known as the Church of Christ and the Townshend Church, is a historic church at 34 Common Road in Townshend, Vermont. Built in 1790 and restyled in 1840, it is one of the oldest church buildings in continuous use in the state. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002; the congregation was established in 1777, and is affiliated with the United Church of Christ.

Mill Brook, a tributary of the West River, forms the eastern edge of the community. The community of Harmonyville borders the Townshend CDP to the south. Vermont Route 30 passes through the village, leading south 5 miles (8 km) to Newfane and northwest 9 miles (14 km) to Jamaica. Vermont Route 35 has its southern terminus at Route 30 in Townshend; it leads north 14 miles (23 km) to Grafton.

As of the 2020 census, it had a population of 92.The CDP is in north-central Windham County, in the southern part of the town of Townshend. It is bordered to the north by the village of Townshend. It sits in the valley of the West River, where it is joined from the northeast by Mill Brook. The West River is a southeast-flowing tributary of the Connecticut River. Vermont Route 30 passes through the community, leading southeast 16 miles (26 km) to Brattleboro and northwest through Townshend village 30 miles (48 km) to Manchester Center.
