Otley, Suffolk

Otley Hall is a 16th-century English manor house in the civil parish of Otley, in the East Suffolk district, Suffolk, England. It is a Grade I listed building. The manor was previously known as Netherhall Manor.

Suffolk Rural College is an English further education college in the village of Otley, Suffolk. The college was founded in 1970 as Otley College of Agriculture and Horticulture. It merged with Ipswich-based Suffolk New College in 2020, having previously been partnered with Easton College in Norfolk.

Moat Farm Meadows is a 3.3-hectare (8.2-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest north-east of Otley in Suffolk.These calcareous meadows are traditionally cut for hay. They have diverse flora, with many green-winged orchids and one of the largest populations in the county of meadow saffron. Other species include ox-eye daisy and cuckoo flower.The site is private land with no public access.

Helmingham is a village and civil parish in the Mid Suffolk district of Suffolk in eastern England, 12 miles (20 km) east of Stowmarket, and 12 miles north (20 km) of Ipswich. It has a population of 170, increasing to 186 at the 2011 Census. It retains the same name by which it was recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086, namely Helmingheham, meaning 'the village of Helm's people'.Helmingham Hall – a large red-brick quadrangular mansion – dates from the reign of Henry VIII. The ancient family of Tollemache have been seated here from an early period after settling for a while at Bentley soon after the Norman conquest of England. A Lionel Tollemache married the heiress of the Helmingham family so acquiring this estate in the 15th century. The village was the birthplace of Faith Emmeline Backhouse, mother of the war poet John Gillespie Magee, Jr. In 1900, excavations in the Rectory garden unearthed a cemetery, possibly Roman, containing some 25 graves.

Ashbocking is a village and civil parish in the Mid Suffolk district of Suffolk, England. The village is about seven miles north of Ipswich, and according to the 2001 census had a population of 318, increasing to 356 at the 2011 Census. The village's name means 'Ash-tree', with the 'de Bocking' family name (probably from Bocking, Essex) added later.In 1326, All Saints' Church, Ashbocking was impropriated to the monastery of Christ Church, Canterbury. After the Reformation, the patronage of the church passed to the Lord Chancellor. The church building dates back to the 14th century with later additions, and was remodelled in 1872.The lords of the manor were the Tollemache family of Helmingham Hall. Ashbocking Hall on Church Lane is a Grade II* listed building, with the remains of a medieval moat. The original half-timbered house dates back to the early 16th century, with later additions. Peter Harold Wright, a recipient of the Victoria Cross during the Second World War, is buried in All Saints' churchyard.

Framsden is a village and civil parish located around 10 miles (16 km) north of Ipswich and 3 miles (5 km) south of the small market town of Debenham in the English county of Suffolk. The total population of Framsden in the census of 2001 was 299, with 125 households, 52 people under 16 years, 201 of working age and 46 over 65 years, increasing to a population of 357 in 137 households at the 2011 Census.

Swilland is a village and civil parish, in the East Suffolk district, in the English county of Suffolk. It is north of the large town of Ipswich. Swilland has a church called St Mary's Church and a pub called The Moon & Mushroom Inn which has been awarded Suffolk Pub of The Year on two occasions by the Evening Star. Swilland shares a parish council with Witnesham called "Swilland and Witnesham Grouped Parish Council".

Helmingham Hall is a moated manor house in Helmingham, Suffolk, England. It was begun by John Tollemache in 1480 and has been owned by the Tollemache family ever since. The house is built around a courtyard in typical late medieval/Tudor style. The house is listed Grade I on the National Heritage List for England, and its park and formal gardens are also Grade I listed on the Register of Historic Parks and Gardens.

Brooke House in Ashbocking, north of Ipswich in Suffolk is the headquarters of the Suffolk Wildlife Trust.The house was left to the trust by Mary Brooke. About 25 members of staff and several volunteers work at the house. It has gardens with fruit trees and a pond, where water voles have been observed.

Monewden Meadows is a 3.7-hectare (9.1-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest south-west of Monewden in Suffolk. It is a Nature Conservation Review site, Grade I, and it is managed by the Suffolk Wildlife Trust under the name Martins' Meadows.The site consists of three unimproved fields described as a "species-rich lowland meadow" classified as type MG5. It is described as the best remaining area of clay or neutral lowland meadow remaining in Suffolk. Floral species include snake's-head fritillary (Fritillaria meleagris), early purple orchid (Orchis mascula), green-winged orchid (Anacamptis morio), pyramidal orchid (Anacamptis pyramidalis), common twayblade (Listera ovata), meadow saffron (Colchicum autumnale), adder's-tongue fern (Ophioglossum vulgatum), pepper saxifrage (Silaum silaus) and rim lichen (Lecanora pulicaris). Notable fauna includes great-crested newt (Triturus cristatus) and barn owl (Tyto alba). There is access from the road between Monewden and Clopton.

High House Meadows, Monewden is a three hectare biological Site of Special Scientific Interest west of Monewden in Suffolk.These unimproved meadows have diverse herbs typical of clay pastures. There are scarce species such as autumn crocus, green-winged orchid, sulphur clover and adders-tongue fern.The site is private land with no public access.

Framsden Windmill is a Grade II* listed post mill at Framsden, Suffolk, England which is preserved. The mill was known as Webster's Mill when it was a working mill.
