Muttenz

The Fortified Church of St. Arbogast (German: Wehrkirche St. Arbogast) in the municipality of Muttenz in the Swiss canton of Basel-Land is the only church in Switzerland that is surrounded by a defensive wall. It is an example of the fortified church type of construction, and is a Swiss heritage site of national significance. The church is still used as a local village church.

It is an intermediate stop on the Bözberg and Hauenstein lines. East the station is the northwestern portal of the Adler Tunnel, which bypasses two stations and provides a direct route to Liestal.

The Sandoz chemical spill was a major environmental disaster caused by a fire and its subsequent extinguishing at Sandoz agrochemical storehouse in the Schweizerhalle industrial complex, Basel-Landschaft, Switzerland, on 1 November 1986, which released toxic agrochemicals into the air and resulted in tons of pollutants entering the Rhine river, turning it red.The chemicals caused a massive mortality of wildlife downstream, killing, among other animals, a large proportion of the European eel population in the Rhine, although the situation subsequently recovered within a couple of years.

Reichenstein Castle (German: Burg Reichenstein) is a castle in the municipality of Arlesheim in the canton of Basel-Land in Switzerland. It is a Swiss heritage site of national significance.It is one of four castles on a slope called Birseck that confines the plain of the Birs river and is the sister castle to Birseck Castle. 1245-1813 the castle was a property of the Swiss noble family Reich von Reichenstein. This family hold also the Château de Landskron (France) and Inzlingen Castle (Germany).

Münchenstein Castle (German: Ruine Münchenstein) is a landmark above the village centre of Münchenstein, in the canton of Basel-Land in Switzerland. The ruins of the castle (Schloss) can still be visited and viewed, but are under private ownership.

Alt-Schauenburg is a ruined castle in the commune of Frenkendorf, Switzerland. It is located near the border of France and Germany, and little of the castle remains because of geological events.

The Münchenstein rail disaster on 14 June 1891 was historically the worst railway accident ever to affect Switzerland. A crowded passenger train fell through a girder bridge, killing more than seventy people and injuring many others. The accident occurred on the railway line between Basel and Delémont, near the Bruckgut just below the village centre of Münchenstein, as the train was traversing the bridge across the river Birs.

The Eremitage building group that includes the castle is listed as a heritage site of national significance.Burg Reichenstein is the sister castle to Birseck and sits on a higher slope to the north.

Münchenstein railway station (German: Bahnhof Münchenstein) is a railway station in the municipality of Münchenstein, in the Swiss canton of Basel-Landschaft. It is an intermediate stop on the Basel–Biel/Bienne line and is served by local trains only.
